Her body makes no difference, guys. She's teaching misleading technique. Arabesque is not a "move", it's a position. What she did like some kind of awkward battement, not even a grand battement. It's sad really.
I agree that she has to teach it correctly, and the technique does not look good on her body, because of the ways shes shaped. I'm not trying to fool anyone, and many of your comments are very correct. Although, her pointers can help beginners starting ballet, like you should bring your butt out,and you have to align your hips. You can let your hips go but not to much. and i agree, anyone that goes on ballet for a long enough can take pointe. Thats what i was trying to prove.Where do you dance?
please the only thing i can say being a dancer myself is to not try and learn ballet from these videos. i know a lot of people may resort to this rather than pay for ballet lessons but in the long run it is better to learn from a real teacher at a proper school and that will avoid years of physio visits to correct bad technique and preventable injuries.
im not trying to be rude, but just some cunstructive critism, make sure you pointe your toes, and try not to push your upper body forward when doing it. but this looks great!!!! and guys , chill out , notice the titile??? she teaching beginners, not professionals. even tho i go to a professional school, i know that she not trying to teach people that already know this. if you guys know all this stuff already, then why are you watching begginer videos??
@MusicianOnPointe I'm really glad, that people who know how to do it correctly because some beginners could watch this and learn. And that's not the point if she teaches beginners. She shouldn't teach ANYBODY because if you learned wrong it takes years to correct shortcomings of technique.
@MusicianOnPointe Aha yeah right. That is such B.S. No girl studying at a proffesional ballet school would ever make a comment like yours. They would be, like many on here are, disgusted with her horrid technique and know that you can't teach someone how to do something incorrectly. Its sad that you'd actually pretend to be a dancer hahaha.
@Nf9456 i doubt you know what professional is. Why would you watch a video on beginners? and are you just on youtube to bitch on people? since your so professional , why do you need a video to explain it? I am a professional dancer. search it up, be useful. and check my username. notice the part ONPOINTE. yeah, cause you know i would just buy $80 dollar shoes, just for fun, so i CAN BREAK MY ANKLE. Stop being rude and the title says BEGINNERS. And you might not think shes PERFECT. BUT WHO CARES.
@MusicianOnPointe There are so many ridiculous things about that comment you posted. Number 1, you looked up the exact same video. Number 2, "search it up" makes no sense gramatically. Number 3, having a username that says "PandaBoy" does not make you a panda. Number 4, if you were a "proffesional dancer" you would be called MusicianEnPointe because that is how you refer to someone who does pointe. And lastly, She sucks, therefore, she should not be making a tutorial for any level.
@Nf9456 i looked up the video to show my cousin about ballet, she wanted to learn how to "lift her leg". I meant search up my ballet school 'Royal Winnipeg Ballet.'and by the way what is your dance school? probably for recreational division. And i'm not talking about that, if you don't believe i'm en pointe, then il post a video. And i could not use the username EnPointe because it was taken. I do stuff for a reason. lastly , i know her technique is off, that is why she is teaching BEGINNERS.<3
@MusicianOnPointe Again, there is no "begginer way" to teach something. You have to teach it 100% correctly or it will screw them up in the future. I just find it hilarious how you think you are actually fooling anyone, then trying to make it sound like I don't know what I'm talking about. The username MusicianEnPointe is not in use. Besides pretty much anyone who takes ballet for long enough can go en pointe. So go ahead. Post a video of you dancing. I'd like to see it.
Why are you saying "whats important is technique not height" when ur technique is shit! u need to turn out, hold ur back up etc. dont teach when u dont know what ur teaching!
She's no prima ballerina, but hey, this is just to give a basic idea for beginners. If I were teaching beginners I wouldn't show a very high arabesque because they'd try to go high too and probably mess up their alignment.
That said, she was still bad. I mean she's kinda cheating... she keeps her head up but her chest still drops.
Well whats the point of teaching but being unable to do it urself. and even if it is 4 beginers shes teaching them to not turn out, possibly ending their dance careers before they've even started and teaching the to drop their backs
This is hilarious! Stop saying how mean everyone is because if you are going to call yourself an expert you better be amazing. I do think these videos need to be taken down because they do more harm than good. Ballet is meant to be taught by a teacher in a classroom.
OMFG! if ur gonna do stuff on youtube thats supposedto be right get someone thats i dont know maybe a teacher and not some fat ass that cant even get her legup to a 90 degree! and u said u didnt tip? well u did everysingle time! and u didnt even to a penche correctly! wtf?! that was horrible!
Just because she has danced for over 24 years, that does not mean she is a good dancer. She can't even do penchees or arabesques, so that's why so many people on here are making fun of her. She's trying to make an instructional video on something she cannot even do herself.
yeah but when she says "don't tip ", I think she means don't put your upper body past the point where it is parallel to the floor. In other words, lean forward but not down.
people are really rude about the comments about her body...you do not have to be a stick to dance well. I kno a lot of average or larger than average woman who dance and they are amazing.....the only dancers who have to worry about weight and being very small are professional ones. if you wanna just dance because you enjoy it then it doesn't matter what size you are...obviously this is something she enjoys, tho she wouldn't cut it professionally. everyone need to chill and stop going all bitchy
@ctswright i think from watching her other videos is that she really just is a quite messy technician. just like she says, "technique is key". you can hurt yourself if you don't know what you are doing, and being that these videos are made under the pretense of teaching something, i think alot of people are making fun of her weight because the videos are not very well made. i think if she had great technique and were doing it all right, then i think people wouldn't be focused on her weight. : /
@ctswright First of all, your comment really didn't make any sense. you said that her weight doesn't matter and any body can dance at any size, but because of her size she can't make it professionally? Think things through before you say things ok?
@960ronbon4ever actually it does make sense. u can be a great dancer and have fun no matter what size u are, but that is not the case for professional dancers. the professional dance world is pretty old school and they like their dancers thin like models. in fact ive heard of some companies emposing weight limits and kicking dancers out, male and female if they dont meet their physical standards. i used to dance for fun; i know some former and present professionals who can attest to that.
in grade two you do an arabesque and attitude, (I teach ballet) you dont lift the leg but just place it. But I suppose you do pre priamary and grade one before 2 so your not so much a beginner.
I know a girl who is a little large and still an absolutely amazing dancer. But this woman is horrible and she's teaching beginners terrible technique that might injure them. When they go to take a real ballet class, they will have to relearn everything. Please don't listen to her.
Agreed. And in the beginning didn't she say she was also teaching attitude? Which she never did. Everything about this video is horribly wrong and no one should try to learn ballet online anyway. Dumb asses.
What if ballet classes arent available where you live... dont be so judgemental.
I took ballet classes for 5 years but was kicked from the dance school after I complained about favouritism to the dance school owners granddaughters..
they always got the lead roles in all the the performances we did... now online and videos are the only way I can learn.
but isnt there another school around. i know in my town there are 2 other dance school other than where im at. and even if theres not and you are going to learn online shouldnt you be learning from a good teacher learning the right way to do things??
I've been taught that the hips can open a little, it's the upper body that has to stay square, and you only open a little. I guess it's a different technique?
hmm well you should work on it a little yourself lady but nah your pretty good But its good you arent wearing tights, i think if you smiled during the video more people would like you
I agree people shouldn't talk about her weight. But her teaching improper technique and saying this is correct isn't right either. Teachers like her equal girls I've seen at Summer intensive auditions who are crying afterward because they thought they knew ballet but everything they've been taught is incorrect.
lizballetdancerx MEGzylives2 Why Dont You Two Shut The Hell Up. Shes Took Time Out Of her DAy to Do this Video And your Doing nothing But Criticise.. And tellin heer shes chubby? you must be some anerexic cunt or something cos i think she looks fine. get over yourselfs you stuck up basterds.\ i highly doubt you could do anybetter. Keep Up The Good Work i think your Videos Are Great :) There Realy Clear and understandable.. Kepp up the good Work :) xxxx
yeh tell us all to not move are bum but then go and do it yourself, some teacher you are! don't tell ballerina's about technique when you have none yourself
oh, leave the poor girl alone , she cant get into a proper 90 degree angle, straight leg, technical arabesque because she is chubby and that weight on her back is stopping her from achieving such a good arabesque, ROFL
yeah...you should try to form a 90 degree angle between your back and your leg. Your body shouldn't move forward like hers does, if it does, you need more back strength to pull up your leg and you should focus on technique instead of trying to get your leg to ninety degrees by leaning forward...irony.
Hi there WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS "MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO" when children see a perfect 5 they will aim for it. That is why in europe you must pass a test, and then send in your trained students to take a test. That way you can keep teaching.
people she isn't trying to creat profissionals via internet, she is trying to make it seem possible to all. Ballet is really a good tecnic and we need to motivate people.
And she isn't a professional dancer, she is just a teacher, of course se doesn'i need to have de perfect body of a ballerina and her 5th position doesn't need to be perfect.
BUt you are rigth people if you want to learn ballet don't be afraid and go to a school.
isnt ur arbesque suposed to be turned out with hips facing foward with your knee STREGHT?
shes not very good....whoever said people who maybe are a couple pounds over weight cant dance is reterded cause my dance teachr maybe is and shes a MUCH better dancer than shes is in the video
i agree with all of you this she suck and you cant learn ballet online you need classes and years of practice but they are good for beginer adults that need a visual to help them practice a home its not ment to teach ballet and its not ment for thoue who spent years learning the disipline its to be used as a learing tool
technically speaking you can't learn ballet online, but this can serve as a guideline to those who have just started learning ballet or contemporary dance .
that was pathetic. in addition to what everyone else mentioned (on the first page anyway lol) her arms and hands look ridiculous, and she barely gets to degage before her rib cage starts tipping forward you'd think she could get it a little higher than that...
posting this on youtube, you'd think they'd actually get someone who could do ballet with proper technique and actually able to do a penche and arabesque. guess not. so bad.
woah did you see how she completely swayed off her supporting leg in her last so called penche..and whats with the up and down...arabesques are about holding a line...its not grand battement!
I don't really think her arabesque, maybe I'm being a perfectionist here, but when you do an arabesque, please close it in fifth position if that's the way you started instead of just placing your legs down and being unbalanced. Also the same way she did the ponche, she just shows it then just drops her leg back down instead of closing to fifth position. I like things clean if you're going to show a move.
(Speechless) These just keep getting better...You CANNOT learn ballet from a video. If you are interested, seek out a studio in your town. Hint: it's probably a good studio if you are NOT going to spend half the year doing a dance for the "recital." There's also good books in the library that tell you loads more than this.
I'm sorry, but honestly, the videos at Expert Village really are a bit of crap. While she may be a skilled dancer (apparently for over 24 years) in other areas, she's not the ideal instructor for ballet. I've been dancing for ten years and this woman is out of breath within the first 10 seconds -- all I hear is her heavy breathing over the audio. She's got a gut for crying out loud.

ballerinas are snobby
i love ballet
and obviously so does this girl
she may no have the best technique
but these commens are harsh
plain rude
so cut her some slack and let her teach friggen ballet
far out
tess19888 3 years ago 2
You are very right!!! Cut her some stack
zalice1 3 years ago
I agree people shouldn't talk about her weight. But her teaching improper technique and saying this is correct isn't right either. Teachers like her equal girls I've seen at Summer intensive auditions who are crying afterward because they thought they knew ballet but everything they've been taught is incorrect.

should doing "arabesque" make us out of breath the way it's making her out of breath?

yeh tell us all to not move are bum but then go and do it yourself, some teacher you are! don't tell ballerina's about technique when you have none yourself

oh, leave the poor girl alone , she cant get into a proper 90 degree angle, straight leg, technical arabesque because she is chubby and that weight on her back is stopping her from achieving such a good arabesque, ROFL

as much as she sucks i just love that the dog at a fire hydrant is pretty much universal
hehehe
frootloops116 3 years ago
yeah...you should try to form a 90 degree angle between your back and your leg. Your body shouldn't move forward like hers does, if it does, you need more back strength to pull up your leg and you should focus on technique instead of trying to get your leg to ninety degrees by leaning forward...irony.

This lady is horrible.
And she calls herself expert.
Wow.

Hi there WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS "MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO" when children see a perfect 5 they will aim for it. That is why in europe you must pass a test, and then send in your trained students to take a test. That way you can keep teaching.
jazzrina64 3 years ago
Yeah I understand what your saying... but "EXPERT" village shouldn't falsely advertise
unespritdelacolline 3 years ago
people she isn't trying to creat profissionals via internet, she is trying to make it seem possible to all. Ballet is really a good tecnic and we need to motivate people.
And she isn't a professional dancer, she is just a teacher, of course se doesn'i need to have de perfect body of a ballerina and her 5th position doesn't need to be perfect.
BUt you are rigth people if you want to learn ballet don't be afraid and go to a school.
eraclita 3 years ago 3
her 5th position is not very good :S dont learn ballet online!

triplethreatwtp 3 years ago
i agree with all of you this she suck and you cant learn ballet online you need classes and years of practice but they are good for beginer adults that need a visual to help them practice a home its not ment to teach ballet and its not ment for thoue who spent years learning the disipline its to be used as a learing tool
colbert18 3 years ago
um heigh is very important along with turn out, correct positions, straight legs, pointed feet, and technique. all of which you forgot about.
balletgurl222 3 years ago
technically speaking you can't learn ballet online, but this can serve as a guideline to those who have just started learning ballet or contemporary dance .
kildy333 3 years ago
Technique is exactly what you need......give up doing these videos. This is a pathetic intent of teaching Ballet
tingotilingo 3 years ago
I don't know what to say, Im speechless...
pinktwinkletoes89 3 years ago
that was pathetic. in addition to what everyone else mentioned (on the first page anyway lol) her arms and hands look ridiculous, and she barely gets to degage before her rib cage starts tipping forward you'd think she could get it a little higher than that...
and she teaches at an actual ballet school? wtf
ntropyincarnate 3 years ago
her leg doesnt hold in position, it goes down too fast.

terrible terrible terrible. when she brought her leg down she didn't close back into a 5th, which indicates she is off balance.
xoxtashaxoxcoco 3 years ago 7
posting this on youtube, you'd think they'd actually get someone who could do ballet with proper technique and actually able to do a penche and arabesque. guess not. so bad.
loveeex333 3 years ago
i know she sucks!!
maggs1994 3 years ago 2
woah did you see how she completely swayed off her supporting leg in her last so called penche..and whats with the up and down...arabesques are about holding a line...its not grand battement!
lollylamb1 3 years ago 4
yeh, woman, the least u could do would b to point ur FOOT!
BillyElliotLover96 3 years ago
yuck
toujoursetoiles 3 years ago
I don't really think her arabesque, maybe I'm being a perfectionist here, but when you do an arabesque, please close it in fifth position if that's the way you started instead of just placing your legs down and being unbalanced. Also the same way she did the ponche, she just shows it then just drops her leg back down instead of closing to fifth position. I like things clean if you're going to show a move.

(Speechless) These just keep getting better...You CANNOT learn ballet from a video. If you are interested, seek out a studio in your town. Hint: it's probably a good studio if you are NOT going to spend half the year doing a dance for the "recital." There's also good books in the library that tell you loads more than this.
movementaddict 4 years ago
thats not a correct defintition of a ponche either...STOP!!!!!
