I have the 1GB version of this card with a few extra video display ports. Just wanted to note that this so called MEGA card runs at 70degrees Celsius on idle! That too in NORMAL bios mode. Remember, it has 2 fans! Guess it's cuz the NORMAL mode too is OVERCLOCKED by Palit. Running at that temperature, I fear this card's life will deteriorate faster. BUT über performance is the only reason I still keep it.

The difference is some games don't support 512mb with certain textures, cause some textures require a lot of memory BUT that's usually not an issue the extra 512MB usually would give you an extra 5-10 frames depending on the game, so it's quite negligible

I have this cards, performs great. although the oveclock is pretty mild, so you won't notice that much of a performance boost unless you overclock it yourself (the bios switch on the card comes in handy for the profile)

Interesting to see that all of the 4870's need a lot more of just about all of the hardware specs to perform as well as a GTX 260. Except for the shader clock, that is.

My XFX GTX 260 is (over)clocked at 660/1435/2140, and that's with only 216 shaders.

While this thing has to go to 750/750/3800+800 shaders to perform nearly as good as a 260.

Nvidia does just as well as their cards with alot less, just imagine a nvidia card with the same specs as this..

HERES A HARDWARE QUESTION FOR ALL YOU GEEKS OUT THERE LIKE ME:- im thinking about upgrading my comp and i have around $200 bucks to do so. Now- my hardware right now is some what a high powered rig but with highly limited upgrade paths because of the shitty motherboard. I have an Intel G chipset which is great for multimedia but shitty for gaming- only 1 PCI Express 16X 2.0 slot. I have an Intel Quad Core with an 8800GT SuperClocked GPU running at 730/1800/2.00Ghz.

I want to upgrade and buy either a EVGA 780i 3 Way SLI motherboard which is around 150 bucks or get an ATI HD 4870 1Gb Gddr5 Graphics card. Both would give me significant performance increases. The motherboard would let me overclock my CPU to much higher spec which would give my GPU a huge boost along with my memory etc which would give my whole system a boost in speed. Then again an HD 4870 would be a nice speed upgrade in games. Remember im a hardcore PC gamer, i use my pc for games.
