@INFINITEINDIGOCHILDE A heavenly, strong voice with a beautiful timbre/resonance! I was standing right near the stage when she performed at the Garage... all I can say is what a voice!!! Geezus!!! May she RIP...
Now now, give props where props are due, and in this case, they go to DAVID TODD of the Catacombs. He was working this sawng at least THREE months before Larry caught it. No disrespect to Larry, who will always be the Children's High Priest of the Dance Floor - but David got there first this time. LOL King & Varick, 12th & Walnut - you were, are, and always will be my Real Church.
@njplr Giving props where they are due, and completing the history lesson: The other of the three sisters, The Clubhouse in DC, is where I was truly schooled, although I went to the Garage first.
@kipbritton Hey Kip! *waving* I agree on almost all of your statements with the exception that The Sound Factory should not ever be mentioned with the likes of PG, Catacombs, or the Clubhouse! The Sound Factory benefitted from the closing of many of the aforementioned. Although the Sound Factory was fantastic (at the time) it paled in comparison to these venues musically IMO. FWIW the Catacombs was paramount to my experience along with some NYC clubs...
@dawn220 Sound Factory was the SHIT for the post-G era. Clearly it was a copy, and Jr. used to live at the G but let's give them credit, because especially during the early Sound Factory years it was fabulous-actually it was better to me than the last couple of watered down years at the G before it closed in 87. Can't fault SF for the music the played the best of the music of that time. They got closer to that G vibe than anything else of that time, or since actually.
@njplr The Clubhouse was legendary, as were all three of the East Coast sister clubs who recognized each other's memberships and shared an unprecedented and as yet unrivaled (exception made for The one and only Sound Factory) level of dance club communion in private, protected paradises.
@njplr Alas, I never made it to the The Catacombs, but chile, the stories I heard...missing it is one of my greatest old-school clubbing regrets.Going to the other two, on the other hand, are very likely my greatest old-school joys.
