well, you could get your meal and wait until the church bell (which would make it 7:00) then hear two more chimes and just count the seconds into minutes until you get to exactley 9:15... you dont have to divide anything... and I just take the easy way vause i hate division

You know the faucet drips 30 or 40 per minute, wait you said I didn't know what time it is. You have to tap out a message at exactly 9:15 when the guards are switching, How did i figure this out? Whos in the next cell? Whats the message? Why am i in jail? What is going on O_O

count the drops per hour and divide the number of drops by 4 and the first bell after dinner is 7:00 so you wait for 2 more bells and then count the number of drops in an hour divided by 4 that u figured out before

Count the drops in an hour, preferably after the bell rings five times for the five o'clock hour, or earlier in case you lose count and have to do it again. Divide by four. Then when it rings nine times and you ate recently (dinner) count off that number you got when you divided by four.

Just count the drops of water for one minute. It can't be THAT hard. Say how many drops of water have fallen from the faucet, and count on your fingers the seconds up to 60 seconds, and then stop. Simple.

This is simple:

When your dinner is passed to you, eat it, while figuring out how many drops of water per minute is dropped from the faucet. When the clock chimes again, you know it is 7:00. Wait until it chimes again-8:00. And again-9:00. This is when you start counting the drops of water (or you can just count to 900), and when it has been 15 minutes, start tapping!

Count the amount of drips between chimes. Divide the amount of drips by sixty. This is drips per minute. This gives you a time system. Wait until your dinner is passed to you. This tells you the next bell chime is 7 o'clock. Then count chimes to 9 o'clock. @ 9, count the minutes using drips per minute until 9.15. At this time, tap out your message. I have not checked the solution yet.
