Was this his valedictory performance? It must have been one of his last, and it's a great example of extreme talent unfettered by the surly bonds of physical mortality... He was as good as he ever was. The only thing close to this of which I'm aware is Billie Holiday's "Lady In Satin" album: The voice is almost completely gone, the talent and experience has never been more evident.
I asked him to sign his autobiography for me, and while he was signing this exchange took place:
Phil: So, what do you do, kid?
Me: I'm a comic, and I go to school.
Phil: School, huh? Well, say something in algebra.
I then did my patented Jerry Lewis double take and it made him throw his head back and laugh. My friend, Ryan Stiles, took a picture of the moment which I have to this day.Sitting up front and watching him work was a privelage and an honor.
Great story man...I've been running The BRITISH PHIL SILVERS Appreciation Society for 24 years and was over in 2000 for Phil's Walk Of Fame presentation. Would love to see a copy of the pic...
Wow, he's doing the Freudian shtick he did back as far as the Bilko days! I love it when he does that :D

Tommy - this is possibly my favourite footage of Phil. It's a great record of a master at work!

Thank you for posting this Mick. I recall that Phil was interviewed very briefly by Norman Gunston in the early 80's. Do you have this?

In the very opening with Bud Friedman, I'm standing right between them in the back. What an exciting night this was.
