I bet your research to find the source of the story didn't take that long either. The news medias have no excuse for posting that as a true story when minimal research would have easily proven it was fake.

And you'd be right.
once I got the tip that it was fake it only took me 10 minutes to find the site and backcheck the dates,
the news sites I did show were only a small portion of the outlets that ran it.

I've had a interest for urban legends for quite a while so I know all the classic ones and I see them popping up in newspapers and websites as true stories from time to time. Sometimes, the stories are just too good. I think they don't check because they don't WANT them to be fake!
