This was the second time he was back at the nest. The first time he came back, he was there for over 20 minutes. As heartbreaking as this video here is to watch, the first time he came back was ten times worse for me. He stayed longer, looked more confused, and even looked like he was calling out to his family.
That male is a beautiful, magnificent bird! Altho the Wildlife Center took his 3 babies, both this male and his offspring will fare far better. The little eaglets are doing so well in their temporary home! WCV has a webcam on the babies. One is perching on the edge of the nest they created, and I suspect she will try fly-jumping to one of the 'steps' they put in the enclosure. I guess they'll be released in August near Chesapeak. GOD SPEED, Kids!

I am glad the trhee babies are doing well at the wildcare bird rehab place...I feel sad for this lonely eagle, perhaps soon he will find another mate....He is a wonderful papa.

It's so helpful to see our daddy eagle dealing with that empty nest by picking up the leftover food and leaving with it. It's proof that his life will go on. He would dishonor his character and his family to do otherwise. If he can bear this, then so can we.

It is very sad to watch and it started my tears again, but it is all part of nature and I am thankful that the eaglets now have another good home and great caregivers. Dad will recover and move on. I feel so sad for "papa".... At least the babies are safe and cared for. But to lose his mate for life and the babies suddenly like this must have been and still is so tragic for him. I know it's been hard for me these past couple of days. Can't believe I got so attached to these guys. I hope he sticks around and finds a new mate in the garden area so that we may experience this once again.

How sad, as he looks around, looking for his family...I suppose that he realized that they're not there and not coming back. Taking the fish from the nest, is a sad conclusion to this season...but leaves one hopeful that by taking the fish, means that life moves forward. Bless him and God speed to finding a new mate!

OMG so very sad ... we all have become so very attached to this very special Eagle family but know the eaglets are safe now. As hard as it must be for the male lets hope and pray he will return next year with a new mate and provide us with another Eagle family to fall in love with and watch thrive and mature in the beautiful creatures they are!

Allowing ourselves to use various means to grieve the loss of Mom and the aftermath of life without Mom for these incredible eagles (Dad and babes) is the only way to get through it healthily...thank you for the kind act of posting this!

I haven't stopped crying since this tragedy happened.
I can't believe it yet that our beloved Mother Eagle is gone.
I pray for Dad's healing and a new happy life once more.
