I don't know about using the dishwasher. I enjoy scrubbing the ornaments. That way I can visibly see the results. I should do a tutorial one day on cleaning a fish tank lol!
I keep tropical fish and i would never use a razor blade its to risky for the glass and fish try a strong squeegee it will come off easy i find that using a razor blade you could scratch glass or even if a fish swims buy there is always a chance it could come near the blade.
@icebeamz will not scratch if you dont use the edge only use the sides. Most people in the car business even use it on windshields to clean. Make sure it has water. If you are afrade sure use something else. Old socks work best
@MrDingDongPong Yep its a hobby and work I will agree, but when the day comes and your friends and family all are sitting in your living room saying , "WOW", it 100% worth it
@Saucetin11 There is no one road .Many ways to do somthing. Squeegee sure try that if you like keep with it, razor blade, paper towel if in a pinch, or I like old socks.
I also made a vid on how to clean a tank but im not sure if i made the right steps since i havent cleaned my tank in a month, so can please look at the vid and tell me where i missed the steps thx
@KlassickVideo A razor blade has been suggested for decades on glass aquariums. Plastic blades for acrylic tanks. I like your idea of using a credit card [preferably expired one], although it's hard to beat the effectiveness of a razor blade. Sponges alone, do not provide enough friction for well established algae embedded on the glass panels. Sure, it's risky and you could certainly cut yourself. But you could also just just buy a metal blade paint scraper and achieve similar results.
Nice looking aquarium. Those tin foil barbs are real beauties. Long life span I recall as well.
A simple little bristlenose or rubber lipped plecostomous would do wonders on that green algae. Those plecos. stay reasonably small as well and relish a piece of zucchini and spinach, which the barbs and silver dollars also like, once the algae runs out. The barbs and silver dollars would likely not pay it much attention and bristlenose plecos. are quite resilient. Just a suggestion.
@Jason99942 Yes, I had them for about 7 years in that tank, They got to big, I set them up across the street and she has them now for 2 years. She has others that are over 15 years old. Tin foil barbs ROCK.
@destr0yer41 Whisper power filters. Get only at a pet store NOT THE ONES at walmart. Walmart the motor in in the tank. Pet stores ones have it in the back. Open up the package and make sure before you buy.
@neil2090 the razor won't scratch the glass, however it could scratch the glue that hold the tank together off. So, probably not the best idea, also, if you cut yourself in the tank, you could get a serious infection especially if you're dealing with turtles.
@fishingman636: maybe ur tank is overstocked? Cuz if it has too many fish, you will have lots of waste, then cleaning the tank once a week is too much. I think u should sell your fish, emty out the tank, and set it up again... Let it run and cycle for like two weeks(without fish) then put about 2 fish at a time in the tank
i have the exact tank and was wondering how do you keep your tank so clean. i have only have 4 fish and is so dirty. i clean it once a week and still dirty. and i do the exact same thing as you do except i have one filter thats it. is that y its still dirty
Hi, I have just got my first Aquarium and have been checking on how many fish to have, how to prepare, what tempreature and so on. I have a 35 gallon tank and have just prepared it. Really looks bare!! Your video has really helped me and i enjoyed your enthusiasm and the really nice house btw! One thing i was curious about, is it safe to dip your hand in the tank as you do? I worry myself with things like that as my sister once killed my gold fish with dirty hands then again she was painting lol
@FunkyBambelina 1st I check the water for Amo, Nit, and nitr and ph. all are perfect. this means that its not over stocked as the fish have been in there for over 7 years and did fine. Second the tank has ZERO gold fish therefore they can not be outnumbered.
@Txdave01 I agree that your tank is overstocked. Having perfect parameters does not necessarily mean your not overstocked. It is about swimming space as well. The silver dollars you have should really be in a 6 foot tank as they are known to be scared easily and ram themselves into the walls of the tank. they also like to be in schools and i doubt your tank can hold that many silver dollars. Your tank really shouldnt have that many tinfoils either. Not trying to be mean. Just some info
I just clean my fish tank because i had some big gold fish that just die and i do not know that they die from i got more small gold fishes and i brough some stress coat.
@7772regina Gold fish like cold water. There is a number of reasons that the fish could of died.. Did you remember to float the fish for 30 minutes in the plastic bag before releasing them in the water. ??? Gold fish general rules. keep the water cold. I keep all of mine at 58. The range is 56 - 72 is a good number. Feed only four times a week.
@MrNaru210 Thanks, now if I could just meet a person that would date me that would say the same. Any people out there with a London acent??? I AM ON THE MARKET.
@7772regina Ammonia or nitrite build up. You need a proper fish tank filter. And don't keep many goldfish in a tank because that speeds up the nitrification process.

@pk16U Same way. once the sand in in your bucket or a large clean trash can, dump out the dirty water and then the sand will sink to the bottom. remove the sand and replace it in the tank. or you can you can use your hand and shake the sand in the bottom this will stir up the sand and your filter will remove the dirt and then just do a water change without messing with the gravel cleaner / for sand.
@RussianSpetsnaz0123 The camera is a Flip camera. Its was about $120 bucks at Best Buy. You can get a used one on e-bay or a pawn shop in the range of $49 -75.
@Txdave01 Wow I loved your video, I have used the dishwasher as well to clean my plastic plants and my other tank ornaments. I have about 4 tanks and a makeshift garden pond using a swimming pool I had lying about which I used as a sort of experiment and it is working out great. @MYLENEFARMERgaultier . I dont understand your question. If you dont have a dishwasher. Simply allow the rock and plastic plants to sit in a bucket of water and bleach over night, outside. Then wash off in the sink. Place items in the tank and use a good product stress coat .
