My granddad flew in the Battle of Britain, and he always said that whenever he got into his plane he always had the same thought: "If there's a chance I won't touch British soil again, by God I'm not letting Jerry take my place". The Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane and P-51 Mustand are by far the most beautiful fighter aircraft in history. You just simply can't beat the RAF and the USAF.
And for those who say the germans could have defeated british easy well they actually could of the whole world very easy there tactics and new blitzreig warfare the whole world was totally unprepared for and france and most of europe fell easy british empire cut off on its knees and the german advance in russia was so fast the germans needed drugs to keep them awake marching 30+ daily! Germany had HITLER as a leader and he proved he was a very poor leader who basically lost germany the war!
How can you americans say you saved britain?? Your troops came on the scene 1942!! TWO YEARS AFTER BRITAIN WAS SAVED! Your supplies might of help saved britain yes. But the german luftwaffe by end of 1940 could not brake the R.A.F and they could not invade britain was saved! And in Africa the british forces were humiliating the italians and when the both axis forces came they still couldnt defeat the british! Britain was saved by 1941 by far!
the fact is, if Germany took Britain in ww2 America would be surrounded by the japs and the crouts so when the British fought off Germany they inevitably saved the US so stop arguing with your stupid comments like Britain only won because of America, some may argue that it is the other way around.
Bravo :)) Love it and makes you feel very proud of our brothers and sisters who gave there lives to save our country from the grasp of Hitler and facism.
@HRMacQuacken Oh Dear, don't know much history do you?! The United Kingdom of Gt.Britain and Northern Ireland stood alone against the evil of fascism for nearly two years before the yanks got involved (because of Pearl Harbour not because of Hitler) The 'Americans' did not "save" anyone......WWII was a 'team' effort, don't forget the Red Army either.
Hitler actually proposed a peace with Great Britain in 1940 after the fall of France. He even promised to let them keep all their colonies, as long as he could do what he pleased with the rest of the world.
Americas biggest contribution in the war was the Lend-Lease act, which Great Britain repaid over 60 years.
Also Britain wasn't the main front of WW2, the Eastern Front was. The largest number of tanks, heavy guns and men in the bloodiest battles. Germany lost the war there.
Great video, i seen something on tv the other day that make's the battle of britian even more amazing, it was about how the german's had the best of everything, the most planes, the better planes and even the bullets and guns used was against us and we still won :)
The RAF Bomber Command Memorial will finally pay a public debt of gratitude to the 55,573 aircrew who lost their lives in World War II defending us against the oppression of the Nazis. All volunteers, they took to the skies knowing the odds they faced, but did so anyway. So please visit bombercommand,com/timecapsule and upload your personal message to the Time Capsule or simply make a donation.
@ampeltreffertv How dare you, what gives you the nerve to say that eh? You cowardly scum, hiding behind your computer posting your petty and rude remarks, gosh, some bloody people these days, Britain, in my honest opinion has given the MOST to the world, whether it was in the past or not; Britain has left it's mark in every corner of the globe. Rule Britannia and God Save The Queen.
A fitting tribute to the heroes of the RAF! God bless each and every one of 'em, it is because of them; we are still here today. God Save The Queen and Rule Britannia!
wht a great vid 4 those who severvd in the raf in world war 2 and also well done 4 the brave airmen and air ladies in world war 2 and the other wars to by keepin the air safe 4 the army as the raf r 1st in and last out
All this arguing, America and Britain are a team. Without America there would have not been a D-Day and the war would have lasted a year or two longer. But without Britain America would have nowhere to launch an attack against the Nazi's from and they would not be able to launch D-Day without the 750,000 British troops.
America and Britain, an alliance the world will never defeat.
I don't know why Britain isn't still making the Spit and Hurricane for collectors and folk who like flying for a hobby, It would generate an industry for people.
I respect the Americans but they had their own interests at heart. Remember Churchill wanted Roosevelt's backing before the B.O.B and he was only willing to do so if Britain could prove it could survive an invasion. Then Germany declared war on them too.
Stop making so many negative comments all you pathetic keyboard warriors hiding behind the anonymnity of the internet. Especially so close to the 11th of November, show some respect. Whilst we did hold out in 40-41 and stopped Germany from winning the war, we could not have won without the USA on our side. Go to the USAAF memorial at Duxford to see how many American Airmen died flying from England in WW2 before posting your pathetic remarks.
Hate to point out this to you but without the Soviet Union destroying the bulk of the German panzer forces, and killing 80% of all German soldiers lost in the war, both you and the USA could forget all about invading Normandy in 1944.
In any good book written about WW2 you can actually count the number of German divisions in France on D-day which was around 60, whereas at the same time there were over 240 German divisions on the huge Eastern Front. Where did Germany lose the war??
I'm sorry my comment was to someone making disrespectful comments about the USA in WW2. I agree with you, Russia bore the brunt of WW2 and no country suffered more, I should have mentioned that. I just get fed up with idiots having a go at our allies. Because we fought together thats why we're all still able to type stuff like this, even the idiots. Not that I think you are, you put a very good argument forward, based on reasoning and facts and didn't resort to name-calling.
We shall never froget the vallient heroes of the RAF who fought against such odds; we owe them our lives for should they have failed-it would have signalled the end of the free world...
First Britain, then Russia, India, N.Africa, the Middle-East and finally the 'Grand Finale', D-day, Canada and America against the Wermacht.
It would be the end, but we shore as hell wouldn't go silently. VIVA LA RAF!!!!!!!!!
Good effort! Not sure why the Lancaster, Mosquito & B-17's are included in a Battle Of Britain tribute though. Lanc & Mossie didn't fly until 1942......Well done though!
Are you talking about a "History lesson"? or Victory lesson? most of the dummies only know the Victory lessons of war the victors failed to tell the dummies about their soviet allies and how many more people died under those parasites. They failed to tell of the Eisenwhoever Death Camps. They failed to tell how many innocent people they bombed that were in cities of NO MILITARY valye. Oh fuck off you're obviously one of those people who say "oh the allies, yeah they're the real criminals". Mentioning dresden & hamburg pretty much indicates that you dont fully support the allied cause in the war against nazis germany. let me remind you that the germans were the first ones who started to conduct mass bombing raids over england's towns & cities. And even in russia too, it was total war mate whether you accept that or not....above all get fucked with your anti war comments.
Does anyone want to give this total prat a history lesson? On second thoughts why bother they obviously don't have the brain cells to comprehend it anyway!
the Germans gave us a run for our money even though we got through the battle, well done German Air force the Battle of Britain film was dedicated to all pilots and crew of the war
Out there on the net are people who say this and that about the Battle of Britain, but you know what, come one or come all, when it comes down to it, the British will defend these Isles whatever the cost!! we wil be free from ANY agressor! and I am proud of my Country!
@GERMANOPHILE as an American I would still take the stand to come to your aid too. Thank God for the Magna Carta, all freedom loving countries should pay tribute to this masterpiece of democracy! : )
The only pictures of the DC-3 are from the Battle of Britain Memorial flight, and I included them since it was a significant event.
I'm well aware of the Polish contribution in the Battle of Britain; I didn't specifically mention any country's sacrifice. I didn't mention the Americans, Polish, Canadians, Scots, Welsh, Irish and countless others that flew with the RAF in WWII.
Trust me, I appreciate the help received from Polish RAF squadrons; they were some of the best in WWII.
i agree with the earlier comments! we do need an empire! the pride in britain has been lost! we are not unique anymore! there is no pride in our flag and we have nothing to be proud apart from our queen that does not even rule anymore!
Great selection of images Probational - thanks a lot. It would be interesting to have a list of the paintings used in your sequence. The one that I like in particular is the German bomber burning in a field with the Spitfire which has obviously shot it down flying a low pass to recce the scene.
I should have the files I used for the vid on my old computer hopefully. I just hope the filenames relate to the painting name or give me a clue as to where I sourced them. I'll have a dig around and get back to you on that ASAP.
"The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British airmen who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of the World War by their prowess and by their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. All hearts go out to the fighter pilots, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day"

Perfect music for those historical photos. My great uncle flew in a Lancaster, I'll show him this video. He'll get emotional, but he will love it.
Thanks again for your respect of the ally veterans.
Cheers, Brent.
