Thanks! No, I did not use tie-wraps, zip ties or zap straps. I made my own mounts for it. Basically a flat piece of metal, 1/4-20 screw and a 10mm bolt. The only thing I know that you can buy for the Zoom H1 is a small accessory kit that has a windscreen, little tripod, handle, USB cable and a AC adapter.
What settings did you use on Zoom H1 besides the level? Using "auto" was not good? About the GoPro, I convert my 1080 videos using MPEGStream to ProRes before importing 'em to FCP. It works pretty good. Contact me if you have any problems. I would be glad to help you.
Using auto was terrible. It was very distorted at high pitch and won't pick up any low sound so I needed to keep adjusting via trial and error. The input settings that I posted in the video are what I feel at best for the corresponding areas. I also had low cut set to on and it was on MP3 320kb/s
I use MPEGStreamClip as well to covert to Apple ProRes 422 (LT) then edit all in FCP but when I export the video it's not the same HD quality that I see from most GoPro users
Still not satisfied ;)? I don't know the "real" sound of your car, but in this video it sounds great, from every position... Especially the sound directly from the engine bay ;) Curious to see, that even the small input level 23 is still too much for the mic :D
