Its really good for the most part, but I do think she over pronounces the coloratura at some points, I prefer it when its a bit more slurry almost.

Caballé doesn ´t modify the words because she likes to do that.Dame Caballé is very known to use other words -with sense of course-when she do not remember the words.She is very known for doing this, and she also knows that.If you dont remember a word in similar phrases you are singing, and there is no time to look to the partitur,what do you do?Keep on singing! She has allready conquered the right to act like that,with no blame! She is Dame Montserrat Caballé !

Now that is caballe! Hurrah! La Caballe sings this like a verdi aria... while still beauty of tonality! THE model for any singer of any type of music!

She seems to have forgotten the words in the middle section. All I got was 'il duol' infranga, queste ee-oi-ee, oi-ee-oi-ee-oia etc' till she eventually finds it again with 'sol per pieta' ! And I don't care for the staccato 'so - o - o- spiri' either. I find this altogether rather sad really for the great singer that she is . . or was !

Well that is not strange when it comes from the great Caballe. She was and excellent singer but she had no idea about how to sing baroque music. She sang it like she sang bel canto. But of course, she is who she is: Bravissima

@Schollistico Sure, she was excellent technically, if not in her element with the baroque, but not remembering the words I find almost unforgivable for a pro like Caballe. I sing this myself so I know what I was listening for - and it wasn't there.

One of the ten best arias Handel wrote. I'm having difficulty recalling where she was, physically and vocally at the time of this recording--god knows she had her share of surgeries and ups and downs--she's obviously struggling a bit, but only Caballe would decide not to compromise on the ambition of trying to do it right, which in the case of this piece means: quietly, introspectively, and transparently.

This actually a very hard(harder that it seems) aria in the origial tempo(that is already slow) but with these even more slow tempo the aria must be exhausting.

She is not really singing in style sounds more like Puccini than Handel,But the voice...that voice is just amazing

Bien sûr le style peut toujours être discuté dans notre époque de relecture de ces oeuvres.Ademttons que ce soit désuet ou obsolète Mais la magie, la magie. Je l'avais entendue dans ce même air au Chatelet en 85 et c'était fabuleux.
