  • how the fuck is this hidden music? it's the same damn song

  • Ok so, I actually tried this out on my 3ds. I thought @solosoloblackdude 's theory, because if you add it up (loop just under one minute, 50 minutes as compared to 64 loops) it was pretty good. I played a Mushroom Cup Grand Prix and after completing Shy Guy bazaar, didn't press a button. Waited for 7 loops. Nothing. Waited for 7 laps. Nothing. By that time I already took 7 minutes. I didn't realize it could also be with the number 3, so maybe I could try this out again another time with 7x3?

  • I wonder if this is in Mario Kart 7 as well.

  • I just tried this today

    MY LIFE IS COMPLETE

  • This was my first game ever

How the hell did I never find this

  • Maybe on Mariokart 7 it's 59 loops. Cuz, y'know, 3D is 59 in hexadecimal.

  • Jazz wins

  • I wonder if it does this on mario kart 7, if it does i'll jizz out bricks

  • @Dogolife i looked this up because i wanted to compare the result screen song. the base is the exact same.

  • Isn't that part of the music though?

  • Ah, yes..the Results music...

    >Hears new instruments<

WHOA WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED?! :D

  • This song is in 11/8 time signature, so funky

  • the result music from Mario Kart 64 returns in Mario Kart 7. I wonder if this hidden music(which is in fact part of the result music) will also be included in Mario Kart 7.

  • @k0nline That would be awesome! But then again, I don't think I would ever just sit there waiting 50 min. just so I could hear it.

  • @HylianShadowrunner Easy. Go play a different game for 48 minutes.

  • @k0nline: Someone only needs the patience to wait that long with their 3DS.

  • Wow In all my years of playing Mario Kart 64. I have never heard the hidden part of this song. This is really cool and a catchy tune as well.

  • Comment removed

  • im going to learn that "hidden solo" on piano since I already learnt the rest of the song! :D

  • @jasondesante Did you use sheet music? If so, where?

  • I'd also like to point out that this song is in an 11/4 time signature, which is just pure awesomeness. Video game music is horribly underrated; I'd rather listen to this than anything in the top 5 on the Billboard 200.

  • O_________O WOW

  • All these years of playing....and I find another thing new. Cool.

  • 6.Mario

    6.Luigi

    6.DK

    666 O_O

  • Those karts must have a lot of gas...

  • this happens every time i finish. idk why u say wait 50 minutes >:[

  • @pikapoketpu It's a different variant of the normal results music. The different version starts at 0:49

  • YES YES YES MY BROTHER DIDN'T BELIEVE ME

  • i don't hear it....

  • Correction: Plays after 52 minutes and 16 seconds.

  • I remember hearing this once!

    Very clever :D

  • This isn't really hidden >.> At least for me it's not

  • You just blew my mind

  • Dude. For real. Wario? Really? It's all about Yoshi.

  • Can any seriously wicked awesome pianists either write the normal music out in notation or direct me to some please? I wanna learn this, but it's pretty tough to figure out in 11/8.

  • This hidden - I just took a look at the official "Mario Kart 64: Race Tracks" soundtrack.

IT'S ON THERE AFTER TWO LOOPS OF THE NORMAL TUNE! So, indeed, that's more proof that the track was intentionally an easter egg (and to those who got the soundtrack, confusion on where it was placed in game and why you had to wait such a long time for it to appear ingame)

  • Nintendo has tons of little hidden things in their games they never revealed and I'm sure theres some out there we may never find. Good ol' big N

  • playing as wario? yuck.

  • I remember when I was 7, and I was listening to this because I LOVED this music, until this came up and I was like, "wtf?" I thought my game broke from playing this music too long XD

  • nice find dude!

  • I found this once! After about 9 years of having the game(2008), we went to the park for a short while, when I got home, I realized I left the game on this screen, and when I just picked up the controller, this started playing! Pure coincidence.

  • ok now i trust u its real i was just reading a comic book then i just heard it randomly!

  • As long as had this game, I had never heard that music.

  • FAKE!

WHEN I TRIED IT IT LOOPED 88 TIMES AND NOTHING HAPPENED!

  • @robloxperson3982 it isn't fake...

  • @spongebobfan334 I LEFT IT ON FOR AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES AND NOTHING HAPPENED!

  • @robloxperson3982 IS THAT MY FAULT? :O

OTHER VIDEOS HAVE THE LOOP TOO.

Did you count 64 loops exactly?

  • @spongebobfan334 yes it happened 88 times and nothing happened

  • @robloxperson3982 For best results, I suggest setting a timer for 50 minutes just as the music begins. When it goes off, the extra loop should start playing within 5 minutes. Each (regular) loop is around 50 seconds long so you should only have about 4 loops to go at this point.

I've only tested this on the N64 console, if you're playing this on the Wii (or any other way...) it might not work.

    Happy Hunting!

  • The N64 is the Nintendo Console with the most Eastereggs in Games. Look at Mario64, Banjo Kazooie and many more. :) Love this Console, it's first Milestone of the Dolphin Engine (latest of this Engine Version used in Wii)

  • @manbearsloth ME!!!! :C

  • Very interesting. Though it is a cool little secret, i think the tune is a bit out of tune at some points which may be why it was hidden.

  • @JuddMan03 why does it do it on the the 64th loop?

  • @solosoloblackdude Holy crap, how'd you do that font???

  • @nintendork64 Via windows IME settings in your control panel

  • @solosoloblackdude ζÓζ how's that. huhuh.

I'm in Control Panel, full list and I don't see IME. Cheers.

  • @nintendork64 it'sprobabjy a non-english character set. (japanese perhaps).

  • @solosoloblackdude Or it's a round number for music.

  • @solosoloblackdude maybe on mk7 its 7 loops or 7x3 21 loops

  • @solosoloblackdude how do you type like that?

  • @JuddMan03 It's not out-of-tune, it's a jazz chord -- probably a major sixth, quite within reason for the style of the piece.

  • This is like the Davinci Code, except better.

  • @manbearsloth

    Wario is my main...

  • It worked on Project 64!

  • @manbearsloth YOU!

  • @manbearsloth winners

  • I just left it running and later I heard the piano start jamming out differently. I was like wtf.

  • And the bet that this wasn't on -any- official soundtrack release for this game is how high? Million-to-one? Nice to hear a variation - however flippingly unexpected it is.

  • O.O I never noticed that!

  • wow, u actually waited 50min. to hear that? man that's insane!

  • it's cool to see others pick out this sort of thing. as a little kid in 1998 or 1999 once I finished a course in GP then had to go eat dinner but didn't want to lose my progress, so I left it on and ate dinner hearing the song. then maybe talking with someone after dinner I heard the music change to this, good stuff though

  • This is a secret in the video game Mario Kart 64!

  • Hey!

  • The tune reminded me of Snoopy o3o

  • I noticed something! The music turned back to normal when wario was a few feet from the finish line for , thats weird

  • Oh my god I remember leaving my 64 on when I went to the and when I returned, this was playing! I thought it was a glitch, but now I guess its not. To be exact, the date was 3/31/2002.

  • @Marioguy765 I've heard of people giving too many specifics when they lie but jesus christ.

  • @TomLikesGuitar So you're saying i'm lying because I remember the date? Get ur facts straight before you decide if someone is lying, douche.

  • i never heard this theme 0_o

  • so thats why the tune changed when i accidently left the TV and game on and came home from the shops... Lol

  • Awesomeness!

Never would've found this on my own. Now I can add this to my ridiculously nerdy Nintendo Trivia Database.

  • Ah yes , nice upload. Ive heard this tune MANY times , but the hexidecimal part ( 64 loops ) was news to me. The reason ive heard it so often is coz i used to play MK64 competetively , and when i got a pr , id have to go find my camera , which was OFTEN misplaced , and id end up making some food etc etc :P

  • for those who dont have patience waiting 50 mins for the look use an emulator and speed up the game

  • Ahhhh Koji Kondo is a clever sneak! This is freakin' awesome. I've owned the OST for years and didn't even notice this hidden segment of the track until after I saw this video.

  • Haha the 64th loop, well played Nintendo!

  • Wow, uh... it IS after the 64th loop. I just went and checked. I guess it is done on purpose, that'd be just too coincidental. (Going to have to annotate, AGAIN.)

  • @lblitzer i wonder if every bit of the sixty four bit processer was used durning that?

  • @lblitzer And yet your comment has 64 likes. I don't wanna be the one to break that :)

  • @lblitzer At the time of me viewing this comment, you had 64 thumbs up.

  • @lblitzer woah, and your comment has 64 like thumbs up.

  • Just sounds like a turn around to me.

  • im so confused

  • I jam this music in my car when I drive.

  • lol. I totally imagined someone saying this with a straight face.

  • wow, it was found recently too

  • This very swanky lounge like music.

    I love it!

  • mind = blown

  • Since I'm a person who tends to leave the game in hiatus for a while after beating a stage or something, I found this years ago, but did not consider it as "hidden", I thought it was normal, I just noticed it had a good arrangement.

  • OH, YOURE COOL

  • Nice find!

  • The 64th loop plays the hidden tune.ice reference!

  • Goddamn, I got nostalgia all over my keyboard watching this.

  • I got nostalgia all over my keyboard, and now i have sticky keys, gross.

  • @chrisxdeboy how to turn off sticky keys

step 1. press shift 5 times

step 2. instead of deactivating sticky keys right away, look for something to edit it

step 3. if you clicked the right thing, you should see a window with options for sticky keys, bounce keys etc.

step 4. select turn off sticky keys or something similar

  • @werecatOmega +1 awesome point for deadpan response!

  • You and your bro have great tastes in music .

  • I heard this before. I don't know if I waited 50 minutes to hear it but I know the song looped a good many times before it went into this cut. I love how game designers makes stuff. So many little secrets!

  • i dont get it : S

  • It's just that the music doesn't normally play where it should. This clip here was taken 50minutes or so after the tune began, and the bit I point out plays ONLY then.

  • This is peculiar. Can't imagine why you were waiting on the results page for 50 mins :p - or your brother at least. But it's definitely different, although subtle - kudos for the find. Mario Kart 64 FOREVER!

  • Heck if I know... maybe he liked the music. (I doubt he was sitting there watching it, at least I'd hope not)

  • @Stillbornone I can mention a few occasions I would play this game very heavily and turn to do something else after a race so I'd just leave it at the results screen. With the volume up and the same loop playing for so long it's subtle enough for me to tell when the tune changed. I never figured it'd be after the 64th loop tho. That's pretty neat.

  • @Stillbornone I actually enjoyed listening to the music. And since this was one of the games that didn't freeze, my pops and I would go eat dinner and come back... but I'd never heard this part until i found it thanks to WhiteKhakis

  • you need to wait to the end of the vid to hear the song he was talking about

  • The actual time is 54 minutes, 40 seconds. I know this, because I used the USF rip from the game, and set it to play for like 166 minutes just for lulz, but then decided to fast seek through the track and the timer said 54:40 when this secret loop played. I also worked out that the number of times the tune plays before the secret loop is 65 or 66 times.

  • This is actually a hidden easter egg

  • obviously I knew when I played yoshi's course on practice it took a half-hour for it to come on

  • Whoa! Never heard this one!

  • I remember around the time I first got this game, I stopped playing in between races and left the N64 on while I went out to eat with my parents or something, and when I got back home, THIS was playing. I felt like I had made the most amazing discovery ever.

  • Yeah, it's an odd programming error. The folks up at Nintendo forgot to loop it properly, I think.

  • @WhiteKhakis When I first heard this, I was thinking, what if there are other tracks which have hidden parts like this? Maybe the Menu theme? Or the Multiplayer Results theme? Or even the Lose (Retry, Quit screen) theme?

  • I really doubt it. I think this was the result of an improperly programmed song loop. I heard the song on the official soundtrack, right? They play the bit I show here well before 54 minutes pass.

    (Can't say for sure, though!)

  • Well obviously they put it on the soundtrack after only 2 loops of the normal song, because they couldn't exactly put a 50 minute song on there that only repeats every 40 seconds or so, could they? I still think it's just a very very well hidden piece of music... I mean why would it be a programming error?

  • It just seems more likely that they forgot to loop it properly, rather than hide what sounds like a variation of the tune. Having it included as the second loop on the audio CD seems to support this. (That's just how I feel about it.)

  • The CD does not support anything. It just means they shortened the time it takes for the extra bit to start. It's common sense... 54 minutes, or 3 minutes? What would you rather have? They only include it as the 3rd (not 2nd) and 4th loop because it would be too long.

  • Heh, alright, so we differ in opinion; all this is second-guessing anyway. The only way to know for sure is to ask Mr. Kenta Nagata about it.

  • lol im so crazy! i actually waited the whole time for this to play!! well actually about what someone said, it wouldnt be 300 secs. because i kno its 52 and a half minutes wait and 52.5x60 secs.=3,150 but still something like that.....

  • lol

  • i get this most time i win first over all on the 4th race

  • cool

  • Wow I didnt no that, thats pretty awesome

  • to the date nothing more difficult to find than DK hiden screen

  • ...I don't hear it. :|

  • I gotta do this someday to actually hear it in-game. That would be pretty special, haha.

  • hmm...

    have you tried this backwards?

  • Travel back in time fifty minutes? I would, but I'm still perfecting my Temporal Distortion Device.

    (Seriously, what are you asking?)

  • no, I mean reversing the song...

  • Are exactly 52 minutes to wait after crossing the finish line

  • cool

  • what lap are those racers on?

  • Victory Lap number 50?

  • lol i dunno if the course takes a minute lol, first there are the 3 laps to finish the course and then,a really long time

  • Haha xD

    "I won! I won!"

    ..

"We get it already! Get of the court!"

  • My guess is the programmer meant to have it play after 300 seconds, but instead had it play after 3000 seconds. Simple mistake, easy to miss in testing, and far more logical than an easter egg with absolutely absurd conditions to activate. On the other hand, you never know...

  • That's a pretty good guess.

Just so you know, on the official soundtrack the "bridge" (or whatever) does come in at the proper spot. I don't recall at what exact time it is, though.

I'm guessing to save space here, instead of having one entire sound file with the entire piece playing, they have one file that they loop for the main musical piece, then one for the bridge. Like you say, it was probably a programming error. A really goofy one, to be sure.

    Thanks for the ideas!

  • I can't notice a change in melody. Is the piano a bit more classy sounding for the hidden loop because that's my best guess.

  • i never heard the song=.=

  • 50 minutes!! waw man, for that reason i never ear it.

  • nice. i never heard that

  • Hope the "Driver's Points" didn't burn into your screen while you were waiting for this!

  • haahaa true that

  • Totakas song in the other games was VERY different...

    Lov this though.

  • what was the original game called?

  • The first Mario Kart game was "Super Mario Kart" for the Super Nintendo.

  • Nice!!!!!!

  • this is in yoshi story if you wait a long time in stage select- Totaka song- I heard its a common secret in older games like n64 games. (yoshi story proves my point)

  • wikipedia totakas song for more info

  • Wow, it's hidden just like tatoka's theme

  • could be another sign of

    ''L Is Real 2401''

Anyways, the song looks like its rising its tune to heaven :)

  • I've known about this for years, but rarely heard it because it takes so long to get to. Thanks for uploading!! (5 star thanks to good quality)

  • Wow the whole song sounds relaxing

  • I did many experiments on Mario Kart 64 like how to become tiny with a star(Succeeded without cheat), computer geting to first place in a second when it get hit by an item but this one was the another secret of MK64... Cool!

  • easy way to hear this music is to download the miniusf rip, and 64th note, for winamp. set the default length to 3600sec, and fast forward to 50~min, you will hear it!

  • Ah, good stuff. Still play this game, all be it on the Wii's virtual console...

And very nice choice in Wario ;). First time I played Mario Kart 64, I choose him, and have stuck with him ever since.

  • It's the laugh that sold him to me - I couldn't resist unleashing that on my opponents!

  • Haha, ya...his laugh is awesome.

As I recall, first time I played the game was at a friends house, with 3 other people, and the first course we raced at was Wario Stadium.

Guess it was meant to be.

  • to me N64 is still the best console in the world come on tho u dnt see many gd mario games enymore

Mario 64 best mario game ever then mario kart second. mario galaxy i was not inpresed i thoght it was gonna be gd its shit its to much of a spyro game collecting the gems and shit

  • you can also do that on Time Trials, too!
