  • hi there just wondering what the gytr sprocket does as the teeth are still stock(do think u good get a little more top speed if u went a tooth lower on the front)? and also how well the dunlop 606 handle the road Mainly in long distances. and what wood u think your bike wood go like if u put a k and n air filter on it? thanks in advance

  • @bArBeLtEt

The GYTR sprocket is lighter and every little bit counts. I pull off anything that is not "necessary" so the bike will handle better on the really nasty rock/muddy trails I frequent. I love the Dunlop 606, they do hold up great on the street for an 90 off / 10 on nob. Something about the compound they use makes it pretty darn sticky but strong enough hold up on the street compared to other non-DOT nobs I have run. Most of the other DOT nobs I have run were not so great in the dirt.

  • @bArBeLtEt A K&N would be a good upgrade but the stock one seems to be working just great. When it is worn out I will go with the K&N. I drilled some holes in the original air box and removed the little intake flapper on the top of the airbox to improve intake performance. If you increase exhaust flow you need to increase intake flow to match.

  • my 08wr250x with only a fmf powercore got to 107mph in 6th gear belive i could of did it in 5th i have let to top 5th gear out but i get 97 98 mph in 5th gear with a decent straight or down a good hill no problem that but that bike should be able to get 115mph also got my used with 3000 miles for 2800$ lol what a steal that was in may 2010

  • @sk8ermek Have you verified your speedo against a GPS or someone in a car?

My speed is about 5-10 MPH and if you have aftermarket sprockets that can change things too without a speedo healer.

  • i have a wr290r. yes the bug bore kit. fmf mega bomb header, yoshi pipe, two bros programer, air box mod with a k&n filter, ais removed, 13-40 sprockets, avon distanzias and a speedo healer to change the the speedo to the correct speed. and it says i hit 102...goin down hill. but only like 96 on a flat run. pretty sure so slow bc of the 40 tooth rear sprocket. but i put a tach on my bike. and at 96 mph its revvin 9400 rpms.

  • @trever11 Yeah my stock speedo is off... I have stock gearing but use the GYTR sprocket.

  • @trever11 How much was your WR290R big bore kit and was it worth it?

  • @trever11 hi guys i've this bike and is fully original at the moment.. i'm thinking to change something to improve performance. but i don't wanna touch electronics, so i think to install air filter and exhaust.. but it's eay to do.. i know there's a lambda probe in the original one and it must to be removed... it's true? and after the engine still working right?? thank you

  • @gelonet75 If you are considering the exhaust consider saving for a fuel injection programmer. The FMF one was not difficult to install. You basically just plug it in and it works. The idea is to richen up your air/fuel ratio as a more free flowing exhaust can leave your bike running lean which will actually make it run faster but HOTTER which can lead to valve or piston damage if your mix is lean enough. It depends on your specific exhaust and intake setup. Your altitude can also play a factor.

  • @noah44444 This is why after upgrading your exhaust on a bike with a carb you would upgrade your jets to richen your mix. The fuel injection programmer accomplishes the same thing but you ca adjust the thing using the plus and minus buttons on it instead of taking your carb apart just to install a new jet. The FMF programmer has different settings for accelerating, cruising, decel, so you can tune it to your liking on the road. I mounted it on the bars but some people have them under the seat.

  • Thanks for the vid, it had the info I was looking for. I wanted a lighter dual-purpose bike for trail riding but wasn't sure if the WR250R had enough juice to highway cruise to off-road destinations. Obviously with the top speeds you were showing, it will handle 70+ mph on pavement all day. Looks like it is pretty fast zero-60 too. I do a lot of trail and unpaved road riding. The 250 will be way easier to throw around for half-a-day than a 600+ heavy dual-purpose.

  • @Otter96753 I used to ride a Suzuki DR400E before I traded it in for the WR250R. I was also unsure about losing the horsepower and switching to a 250. The DR400E definitely had more low end grunt power but the WR250R has the six speed transmission with fuel injection and it is much lighter and easier to handle on the tighter trails. It has no problem cruising in highway traffic and I am no little guy at about 200 lbs. If you get one plan on getting a pipe and programmer too, well worth it.

  • if you want a 99mph in stock wr250x ,use a front sprocket 14t and rear 45t,with a ring17 ,use the original stock change 520v/108......14x45=630x17=10,710 divice 108change=99mph

  • @manuev1 Good info thanks but my bike will NEVER have street tires on it so that doesnt apply to me as this is the WR250R and not the X. I do mainly dirt riding.

  • there's no tachometer, how do I know when to change gears in order to get the most from it?

  • @paskalns Actually you can get a tachometer from Trail Tech or use the FMF Fuel Injection programmer on the handlebars like I do. The FMF programmer has LEDs to indicate your RPM level.

  • that is the top of 1st gear on my zx14....btw today I just picked up an 08 wr250x...

  • @9secondsflat SWEET, now strap a camera to your helmet and post a video with sound to back it up!

  • @9secondsflat Sorry man but your ZX14 wouldn't stand a chance on the roads I ride. You would be lucky to make it to the OHV parking lot on one of those... the WR250R is a DUAL SPORT and this video was taken with agressive dunlop 606 tires installed. This video was to demonstrate that the WR250R has no problems keeping up with traffic on the highway when it needs to. Comparing the ZX to my WR is like comparing a Lambo to a Land Rover- apples to oranges. Now go pickup some nobbies for your X...
