It this is mere liberalism/neo-orthodoxy repackaged. Read the neo-orthodox- they say exact same thing but more elaborately articulated. Truth is exclusive. If there is no truth or if you deny the exclusivity of truth then you cannot even speak. After all, am I to take what you are saying as being presented as “true” or not? Doug, like most post-moderns and those who have posted comments here speak in self-defeating/self-contradictory terms.
its so sad that there are comments on this board from tunnel vision fundamentalist Christians. When it comes down to it, Biblical literalists are walking contradictions who are only lying to themselves.
"Sin is not merely a disease of the soul, a sickness requiring medicine: it is spiritual deadness, pervading the whole person...it is not that man is in every respect as evil as he could be, but rather that in every respect he is ruled by sin so that everything he does is tainted" -David McKay. THIS is why we need JESUS!
Does this guy not read his Bible? Does he think Jesus is just messin around when he says you must be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven? Does he believe sin is real and does he understand the depth of it spoken of in Ephesians 2 "dead in our transgressions". Also, the good news does include a new earth and we get to be a part of it but apart from Christ's redeeming work we can't do that. Faith is not another thing that we do it is a gift God gives to those whom he foreknew. oh doug...
Your only research on the meaning of the song came from blogs? And you wrote a script for a whole radio show segment on that? Not to mention, you didn't focus on your topic. It's practically a rant with a bunch of references to your extensive education in theology. I understand that the lyrics make for a great introduction to something like this, but analyzing them to fit your opinions on something completely different? Just a thought.
"I dont want to go to heaven if I can't get in...." Well Jesus said everyone can go to heaven if they repent. Its an open invitation from Jesus. Not buddha, not muhammad, not joseph smith. So if you want to go to heaven, repent and accept Jesus. Its that simple.
