My late father in law was aboard the Big Mo at the surrender in Tokyo Harbor. It was cool for my wife to talk the same decks a generation later. Highly recommend if you're in Hawaii to visit.
a special thanks to u for posting this video this was home for 4yrs including desert storm brought back back good memories almost 20 yrs ago but seems like yesterday planning to visit "mo" in next couple of months once again thanks!!!!!!!!
I was on the Missouriduring desert storm also. Iworked in ordnance division and hadgeneral quarters station in turret-2. I really liked visiting australia afterward.
i wish i could go see the Missouri. i have some photos of her on a profile of mine on a website along with the New Jersey and the other Iowas. Even some photos of the South Dakota
I would like to someday fly into America and go a tour thru USS Missouri, its so damn cool ship :) were Under Siege filmed in this ship or was it all just made in studio?
I'm not sure. Likely in a studio, althought I believe I once heard they shot exteriors of the ship underway while it was enroute back to be decommissioned.
@bjorn50 Great video, the Mighty Mo is my favorite ship, and actually, your right about the extiior shots of the ship, but alot of it was real, just filmed on board the uss alabama because the Missouri was still in service :D
Exteriors of Under Siege were filmed on an underway Iowa-class ship, but on deck and interior filming was largely done on the USS Alabama battleship which is now a museum, as well.
Quite a few scenes were actually from the USS Missouri while she was at sea. But most of it was filmed in Mobile, Alabama onboard the USS Alabama one of two of four built South Dakota class battleships.
Yep, I couldn't remember which of the Iowa-class ships it was in the filming. I've been on the Missouri. Great ship, but technology has really passed up the ole' battle wagons.
Remember seeing two Iowa class battleships docked side by side down in the Philly Navy Yard years ago (90's). These ships are an awesome sight. The Carrier JFK was also there at the same time going through a refit.
awesome vid. BTW that carrier that was in the vid, was the # CV6?

My grandpa served on the missouri in the 50's and he said he couldn't hear a thing for almost a minute whenever they fired the 16 inch guns.

@MiklLyons I honestly don't know. It was coming in from the Middle East and headed home to San Diego. Choppers and Harriers aboard.

Sad part is, only a small portion of the Iowas are open to civilians. Quite a lot of people miss out on what much of the below decks is about.

The rest were special effects.

I did a deployment aboard the Kennedy out of Norfolk. When we sailed, we were berthed next to the USS Iowa.
WOW!
