What a mismanagement of a career...Freddy adu has all the skills to compete on the world stage...and he wasn't even called into camp...that's a disappointment!

That's not the problem at all. More kids play soccer than any other sport in the US. The problem is keeping them interested beyond the age of 13. The lack of a pro league for many years didn't help. Once MLS can pay salaries that are a bit more 'wow' inducing you'll see a lot more growth as more kids will wanna stick with the sport to get the 'easy' money close to home.

Hmm... we have a couple of serviceable strikers, a plethora of midfielders, and not one young defender of sufficiently high quality (I doubt Subotic will play for the US) has emerged in recent times. Big threat. Countries like Italy and Spain could fill three whole squads with international quality players.

That's not the problem at all. More kids play soccer than any other sport in the US. The problem is keeping them interested beyond the age of 13. The lack of a pro league for many years didn't help. Once MLS can pay salaries that are a bit more 'wow' inducing you'll see a lot more growth as more kids will wanna stick with the sport to get the 'easy' money close to home.

i believe that the raw talent of US players is equal to that of Brazil or argentina...the mls is at par with brazil's league and mayb aregentina's...the thng is that brazil and argentina love soccer so they nurture their players better...that is why their players become better and go abroad and excel...if the US had the same soccer=life (which is true) mentality then US would b better...also there is prob 2 big of a coaching dif between US youth and senior team

When we play consistently up to our talent level, we are a top 10 team in the world. Examples are against Italy (9 men tied the eventual champions) and Argentina friendly (should have beat the number 1 at the time Argentines).

the MLS is still young compared to england, germany, france, spain, italy, scotland, and so on.
hell, in 02, we fielded about bunch of MLS'ers and made it to the quarterfinals. even though we lost, we outclassed germany.
the MLS isn't great, but it isn't as bad as a alot of yall make it out to be.

By the way we played the "REAL" Brazilians last year and were tied 2-2 in the 73rd minutes. They went on to score two penalty kicks in the final 17 minutes to win 4-2..Hardly being owned right out of our "cowboy" hats..It was a very competitive game
