  • I keep coming back to this....one of the best versions out there....my head starts slowly moving along with the playing.......man....a cold beer and a broken heart would make a perfect accompaniment

  • The best version on steel guitar ever seen !!!! very good job

  • Wonderful playing not only here, but with Miss Leslie as well. I may be only 16 years old, but love traditional country, and most importantly, the sound of a pedal steel guitar

  • I love how Ricky Davis is not afraid to move the tone bar up and down the fretboard.

  • I have to come back to this every couple of months and just enjoy one of the best steel versions of this song...and that's saying something, considering how much steel I have listened to over the last 50+ years :)

  • My God man that was awesome, gave me goosebumps!

  • Thank you so much everyone for the VERY kind words. It warms my heart to hear all this. I don't solo much ever; so this was a rare occasion. You can hear my playing with miss leslie dot com and on here; search for Miss Leslie

    Ricky

  • I dont need to go to a therapist with my broken heart. That steel cures it all.

  • Excellent steele guitar, makes my heart skip a beat.

  • Ricky rides again!!!!!!! Great stuff as usual Ricky.

    Robbie Bossert

  • You're great! I never tire of listening to this! Do you have any more postings on YouTube? Really soulful, man, don't ever stop playing....

  • Yours is the best rendition of "Farewell Party" I have heard - you're great! You are really soulful in your playing - pure country sound. It's got me back listening to country music again, the way it should be played - the steel makes it real country! Keep on playin'!

  • You got it goin' on, man! Loved it - one of my favorite songs...PURE country!

  • Love it!!!

  • great , can you put more of this steel player on please its mind blowing good

  • You have captured Lloyds feel, as well as expertly placing your own emotions and style into this piece.AWESOME

  • had to take another "listen" so so pretty... Gene Watson would be SO Proud... NICE! you make that baby SING...

    ♥ ♫Becky ♥ ♫

  • I've literally got goosebumps, can't live without my steel guitar now ;)

  • brings back good memories, remember these songs riding with mom in our old 56 oldsmobile

  • Absolute cold chills. Sounds really really great!

  • ABSOLUTELY Beautiful... my FAV Gene Watson song EVER... and one of the BEST steel songs too... I also admire Mike Johnson who played for YEARS with Bill Anderson and the PO Folks band, is now a session player in Nashevile, you probably know him lol... NICE!

  • Wow very nice! Unique style as well

  • Damn......If I closed my eyes when I listen to this, I could swear I'm at the old Ryman auditorium back in the 50's. Great job. Not enough steel in modern country.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • "True Country" Awesome! Could listen all night. Thank You.

  • My Buddy, You do a good job on this particular song.I only wish I can sing to it

    on my channel.Ilike it...God Bless..Eddie

  • I miss Ricky in the Austin area, but instead he gave us great music with his partner(wife?) Miss leslie... You're an inspiration, Ricky!!

  • Gene Watson's theme song. Good stuff.

    Lindy

  • Do you use any effects on the steel sir?

    thank you very much,

    Mario

  • I miss that sound in songs. That sounds awsome!!

  • beautiful steel.

  • You are very smooth!Sean Spearman(sacred steeler) from Detroit,Michigan

  • Only 4 videos here....not enough for a gal who would like to hear more. of course, you rate a 10+ or better, because you play with such emotion, projecting it onto your guitar and conveying it to your listeners. Thank you!

  • Look up Ricky Davis and you will find some of his videos

  • you sure know how to put feeling and emotion into that pedal steel. That passes the country sound test. Awsome!!!!!

    Ralph5656

  • Wow, I'm impressed, lol. Very good, I loved the sweet slide at approx. 2:38, that crying is what tears me up on steel, man, I love that! Keep up the good work my friend, God Bless ya....

  • GREAT;GREAT FEELING EXCELLENT STUFF

  • I keep coming back and playing this one...good steel playing is the most relaxing thing on earth (so oddly enough is good bagpipe playing if you are Irish enough :) )

  • This is just so beautiful. Can i get a cd from this guy. He is just fantastic!!!!

  • i have to agree with BeatleSongPlayer, and i love Lloyd Green

  • I certainly don't mean to offend anyone, but I prefer this over the Lloyd Green version. It sounds younger and hipper to my ears. It's just my opinion, please don't shoot LOL!! BSP

  • check out his website. mightyfinemusic(dot)com . it's well worth the visit!

  • You need to make a music video, and more for youtube.

  • That is beautiful playin'!!

  • Great stuff reminiscent of

    the great Jerry Byrd

  • very nice ...love your playing & the sound of your steel guitar..kat

  • Man! 'nuff said.

  • sweet

  • This is the best I've heard. I could play this video over and over. Love the crispness of this sound.

  • WOW! That was so hot..Awesome Licks..Would LOVE to see more videos of you...Such a sweet sound....GREAT JOB!

  • Wow wonderful do you have any more to watch on yout tube

  • I like this alot. I watched the Loyd Green version too which is great and very traditional. But this cat throws in alot of what I call "dope" notes, like he just dropped some acid. very cool.

  • nice

  • unfortunately I watched this AFTER Loyd Greens vid. Enough said.

  • Presumably means Lloyd Green. Ricky Davis obviously has a great talent. Give respect where it is due. I liked his website mightyfinemusic dot com

  • i just can't take my eyes off the screen watching you enjoy playing so much. I have been playing steel 41 years and know where you are. This just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Great sound. Really enjoyed it.

  • Wow...if you ever play out in California...I want to come hear! AWESOME! :-)

  • Perfect, VERY CLEAN like it should be!!!

  • Rick... as a man whom also is a lover and player of the Steel...I must say your version makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up... BUDRO in Germany P.S.I heard Gene Watson sing this at his place in Okla.City,Okla (where I am from) and yours sounds better !!!!

  • Ricky, I just LOVE your playing!!! I have listened to this and your other videos many times. I would like to know if you have a "My Space", as I would like to add you to mine. Thanks. Larry in Canada.

  • If this playing don't raise the hair on you head, then you must be bald headed.Fantastic!KB

  • greatmusic well enjoyed thank you

  • You did very very good. It is a compliment to see the smile on your face. It shows the enjoyment that you get out of playing. I just started playing Steel 7 mo. ago and spend 5 to 8 hours a day practicing and I enjoy watching your videos because they are shot at a distance so I can see the fret board and most of your knee and pedal movements. Do you have any that are at a 45 degree angle looking down. LOL GREAT JOB.

  • Amazing!! I wish to play Steel Guitar like you ricky specially that song!!! leandro from argentina

  • Thank all ya'll for your very nice words; it means so much to me.

    Ricky

  • This a pure example of what commitment will get you. Ricky has chosen to concentrate on what he is good, or has gotten to be very good at.

That along with his natural talent has gotten him where he is.

I like many others, have split my concentration on things, other than playing, and so we are where we are.

Keep doing what you are doing Ricky, and know that many of us, I would bet, wish we could be in your position, with your skill.

Keep up the very good work.

  • Larry; thank you so much for your very thoughtful words. That is very inspiring coming from you.

    Ricky

  • What an awesome job, great playing. Eddy makes one hell of a guitar!!

  • That's nice

  • Wow, this is good stuff-Ricky. I want to hear more.

sensitivity and touch. Keep it up!! HB1964

  • wow that was great.... youre almost as good as JOE WRIGHT.

  • Awesome job!

  • Hearing James Clayton Day playing "Precious Memories" on Willie Nelson's 1976 "Troublemaker" album turned me on to pedal steel - you have that same power of expression - great stuff & thanks...
