Thank you Tom for the vindication. The question is what does this say about the intent of the Vatican from its inception? Its deliberate manipulation of truth cannot be looked at any other way than than a grasp for power and control and to use the masses as chattle. The end result of the Christ myth has been The Church leaving a guilt trip on everyone for Christs sacrifice. This way They controlled your very soul, it was their way or damnation. There is nothing Holy to the history of The Church.
I am not claiming Jesus Son of God, etc - Just that he existed. You would have to be a complete fool to argue against his existence. 3 Historians prior to 100AD mention Jesus - Thallus, Pliny the Younger, and Mara Bar-Serapion. Just after 100AD Tacitus, then a little later Lucian of Samosata and Talmud(all non Christian sources). Looking at early Christian sources there are 30 to 40 from before 100 AD. Several Historians have joked when mocking Zeitgeists "Proving someone existed is not hard".
When everyone recognizes the truth in what is being said in this video, we might actually have a chance for peace on earth. The Vatican owes the world a HUGE apology and a lot of facts. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, I have my inner peace. Fundamental/literal religion is pure BS, only the most ptiful of people would believe it to be an historical event, and thus miss the entire meaning of the myth.
@beatlesnumber9 Except nothing in this article is truth, its the Zeitgeist movement which is specifically directed at the vatican, governments, etc .... to bring the world together as a one world order (i.e. control). I am not a Christian, but I am very happy the catholic church exists as a political institution, it is what is preventing the George Soros's of the world from taking it over. Zeitgeist's can ,manipulate stocks, currency, commodities, etc .... but the church has real wealth.
@lion575 The truth is Jesus is based on Horus, Mithra and other astrological sun-gods, plagarized by Rome who then burned the books and people that woulld expose this fact. The Church hides the truth, while hoarding more money than Exxon will ever see.
@beatlesnumber9 I cant argue with you in reference to generic not mentioned Pagan God's, but their are no similarities between the history of Horus in Egyptian mythology and Jesus. I've been lucky to spend a fair amount of time in Cairo (Pyramids, Egyptian Museum of History, etc ....), and Horus is a large part of Egyptian mythology. He had 4 demi Gods that served him, his father was Osirus and his Mother Isis. Could go on ... .
@LeRationnel27 I am stunned at his conclusion. His studies are nothing new. Paul was a convert from Pagan religions. Many people have discussed this before, Thomas Jefferson even called Paul a false prophet. Thomas Jefferson studied same things as this guy and concluded Paul was a false prophet. Others have studied same and converted to islam. This guy studies it and determines Jesus even as a teacher didnt exist .... sound research, but unsound conclusion.
@LeRationnel27 I follow the logic in that article until it jumps to the new testament. It just says possible rediscovery. The big problem with Tom Harpur is similar in the sense that he jumps to his conclusion Jesus does not exist with vauge information. He states there are only 3 non christian Historians in the first century that reference Jesus (a poor carpenters son from a small village). As many critics responded "Their is not much burden of proof required to prove ones existence".
@LeRationnel27 In all honesty I only skimmed the second article, but what is the big conspiracy? There is archaeological evidence of a flood in Mesopotamia around 4,500 BC that wiped out all life in that region, and several ancient writings repeat the same theme - the story of a man, a large boat, and his family. Same story is also mentioned in the Epic of Gilgamesh (ancient hindu story). The only thing I ascertain from this is, there was a flood in 4,500 BC, someone did build a large boat.
@LeRationnel27 Except that is in Genesis which is just considered by the jews early history, so other texts telling the same story as history isn't stealing anything, its backing up that a flood did happen in Mesopotamia around 4,500 BC.
@lion575 it's backing up the flood, but the bible can't be held as the truth about the subject of the flood because they most probably stole the story from the sumerian like they stole many other thing that got put into the bible that were written on clay tablets in mesopotamiam
@LeRationnel27 It's Genesis, which was basically where the Jews sat down around 1,300 BC and wrote the history of the world as they knew it between 4,500 BC to 1,300 BC. That means they could have taken from any number of writings, histories, etc .... . Oddly when people try to argue with the Bible the focus is always on Genesis (which is the first 40 pages of a 1000+ page book thats only intention is to record history as they knew it from 4,500 BC to 1,300 BC). There is nothing to argue with.
@LeRationnel27 That is what all history is (what was passed on and people wrote down). Tons of idiots argue man has never walked on the moon. Technically I cant prove it, I wasn't even alive at that time. However the evidence to back it up is pretty solid. Similarly the evidence to back up that a religious teacher named Yahushua (Jesus) was at least alive and crucified is pretty solid.
Really well spoken. Although I despise certain elements of Christianity's chicanery and outlandish claims, I love the idea of Harpur's Cosmic version of Christianity. His logic and ability to communicate the historical record and make sense of archetypal themes throughout the known spiritual record is appreciated. Great interview!
This is really sad! The history is there for people to get more close to Jesus and not to denied Him or his existence on earth! This is a dangerous conclusion, not just for him, but for all those who will belive on this. Sorry but I belive in JESUS CHRIST (not in religion) and His life on this world. And this is something that I dont need to prove it! Is better you change your mind when have chance!
@johnnyusa51 alot of people believe things that are false. This guy on the video is providing proof. He is not agaisnt the view that God exist. You should listen to the video with an open mind, and not just press stop after 15 seconds.
@LeRationnel27 He is not providing proof. He is bringing up age old questions and their supporting arguments. The questions and arguments are sound, its his conclusion that makes no sense.
Religious people offer nothing approximating evidence to support their religious assertions. Science however offers evidence to support it's claims. It's not a question of prove god does or does not exist, the question is can religious people 'disprove' the colossal mountain of evidence that currently supports evolutionary biology theories. The answer is a resounding no & until they can, I'm afraid it's 1-0 to atheists. Sorry Christans, but in this day & age you'll have to up your brain game.!
@directtalk1 This should not have been marked as spam. Who ever marked it as such is a perfect example of how ignorant and immature a person can be when faced with a rational challenge to their beliefs. This is the type of stuff holding us down as a species. No progression, just rejection.
@directtalk1 What does "the colossal mountain of evidence that currently supports evolutionary biology theories" have to do with "it's 1-0 to atheists"? Evolution does not disprove a Causal Will To Exist, in fact it illustrates processes by which the Creative Urge transmutes from Solar fire into chemical compounds into amino acids into close looped chains that provide membrane enclosures within which dynamic self-regulating energy interchanges initiate impulse and interaction. God?
@EternalRecursion. Biblical STORIES of Adam & Eve conflict with the mass of EVIDENCE that points to evolution. Your verbal diarrhea that follows beautifully demonstrates pseudoscience to eke to the question "god"? No, chemistry. Clearly the 21st C renaissance of telescope technology, physics & cosmology eludes you. How privileged I am to understand these discoveries & not live in a mythical & archaic world whose inhabitants only need the simplest of mindsets, faith & 1 book
@directtalk1 First of all, your reference to "Biblical STORIES" does not address my post. Secondly, what you label, "Your verbal diarrhea" is demonstrative of your ignorance, for it is NOT "verbal". The remainder of your post, though insulting, contains nothing of meaning and certainly does not illustrate to ANY degree reason for the conviction that LIFE, WILL, CONSCIOUSNESS are anything less than the evidence of a larger, greater Awareness that permeates the electro-photomic ...
@directtalk1 ... continuum we call "reality". BOTH Relativity and Quantum Mechanics have as their final arbiter of manifestation, the groundwork of CONSCIOUS apprehension. But you go ahead and entertain yourself with your itty bitty perspective and your disproportionate ego and others of us will enjoy the Realization that so evades you.
@EternalRecursion, As a child I thought ghosts, monsters, gods etc, were real. I found religious stories & education stimulating to my mind. Not anymore. The bible stimulated your mind & clearly still does, but I cannot relate to that. So, without wanting to spend anymore time here, farewell & all the best to you
@directtalk1 "The bible stimulated your mind" Interesting assumption. Of course, you should recognize that I have only posted the word "bible" as a direct quote of you, otherwise, I haven't made one reference to the Bible. An interesting book to read for its significance in western history and its mythological narrative, but certainly not the inspiration you suggest. In fact, I use my knowledge of Hebrew and Christian scriptures to refute "true believers".
