how do i install programs on linux someone please help me ive bean trying for a week now and its really making me mad im trying to install firefox but i dont know how
HOLY SHIT DUDE, I have the same neetbook and the same distro, and I HAVE A PROBLEM, here it goes: both Ethernet port & wireless Internet are not working, what could I do naaaaaaaaaaaw? some one says that I need to install the restricted driver for wireless, and that I need to reinstall ubuntu whit the ethernet cable connected to the computer and the modem.
So, does the MiE completely get in the way and refuse to let you run the system the way you'd like? I intend to get a nix netbook, but am thinking that Verizon is sending me a coupon for a netbook from HP so I could hopefully grab one of these instead of the XP one they are recommending. Though even if I wipe it myself and reinstall I'd pick this over another point for MS market share.
If it will run Wine it will run a LOT of windows programs, Starcraft included, but Office depends on the Version. For the iTunes Junkies AmaroK or Rythmbox are both much better than iTunes, but I'mnot sure about iPhone support. Go to WineHQ and look at compatability for what youwant to use. I honestly have no programs that I can't run with Wine, or in the case of some of my older games DOSBox, while I'm sure others will find someprograms lacking I have been able to run every Win32 Program I use.
I believe there is really no need for alternatives. Unless you need some software to produce and work, then it's all fine. If what happens is that you don't know about what to use, go to some Alternatives page, like AlternativeTo, OSAlt, etc, and look for it.
Of course I know about WinE, but many people ask for the same FPS in games, and the same perfomance in general.
Also, WinE is only for 32-bit systems (natively, atm), which reduces the use for those in a 64-bit system.
There are more than WinE, made for different things like Cedega and PlayOnLinux (for games), and CrossOver *, which is WinE in steroids, for a better perfomance in general.
I bought one about a month ago and overall it's not bad, but there are a couple limitations. The desktop setup isn't very customizable and the command line interface is practically disabled.
Anybody know how to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix on this machine?
since Mi is basically just an HP-configured session with HP apps running on top of Ubuntu, there's probably a way to log in and just bring up GNOME or something.
If there's any way at all to get to a terminal (one would hope ctrl+alt+f1 would still work) and if HP gives you the root password (o lord they ought to) then I don't see it being too much of a problem.
Since this is OBVIOUSLY a build on the Ubuntu platform of Linux - does this build have the accessibility features of Ubuntu? Ubuntu has Orca, magnifier, etc. Thanks!
Ubuntu has a wide range of software available for free. Everything from full digital recording suites to dorky little games. You can try out ubuntu linux for free with the wubi installer. It will let you run linux in your windows system to try it out. If you don't like it just uninstall wubi. If you like it you can migrate it to its own partition.
Go Ubuntu! Getting some good penetration in these big hardware vendors. I'm currently drooling over these small-form-factor netbooks that come preinstalled with Ubuntu.
I us a nokia n800 as a portable device. Fits in the pocket and can run this ubuntu netbook remix.(although I dont) Plays h.264 flash video aac mp3 ogg flac audio. Carman though is the best phone feature ever. OBD 2 speedometer and diagnosis integrated with gps and audio player. The mozilla browser is sweet also. I hate to say it but adblock is a must on portables.

Who the hell is that "ESTUPIDO" with "familiar interface" BS crap? What the heck is so familiar about it? Is he just trying to brainwash some teenager trying to sell this Mini netbook? This cheapo laptop-downgrade is a piece of crap. Most cellphones can do all of that stuff these days. If you want a laptop for work/school purpose, get a real one, that you can install other programs on, otherwise just get an iPhone for your music/internet crap.
Oh, its you again... spamming anyone who is interested in this item with your negative astroturfing bullshit. Tell you what, if you don't like it, watch something else dickweed.
fuck you! I am not dictating anything, but just expressing my honest opinion. I wouldn't watch this video if I wasn't trying to see what the hell is all the hype all about and after listening to this annoying sales dude, who keeps telling bull to everyone about how good this product is I felt I should open some nube's eyes to a different kind a view. So shut your mouth, you dirty poop hole!
fan? Not really, but the phone has the things I use on a daily basis, the kind of things you don't find in other phones on a market. I don't like WM in particular and I wouldn't recommend it to most noobies out there, because you have to be a geek to be able to use it and keep it running, nor do I like MS too much, especially in the last 9 years or so. That's why I recommended an iPhone to most noobies, including you, schoolboy. Listen up and you might learn something.
That is when your eyes and ears are stuffed with shit you can't see and hear anything, except crap bubbling all around you. If you did have some sort of vision, then you'd be able see that I never mentioned WM to be the choice of geeks. I simply said that in order to use WM, you have to be a geek, because it's way too user unfriendly for most noobies, such as yourself, dumpster head. Although there are a lot of geeks who actually do love to mess with WM. Check out xda-developers site, shitty-boy

"I'm not stupid enough to buy a device that uses shit" You're stupid enough not to be able to make a solid argument, because you have shit instead of brain. "Company wide meeting" - a company with 4 techs, that maybe 2 of which you have talked to. Once again - no solid argument. WM has a fairly large market share, regardless of who you might know, or who you might talked to and, while I am not defending it and never was, there are a lot of techs who actually find it more suitable for them.
"a company with 4 techs, that maybe 2 of which you have talked to"
No less than 18 highly competent technicians were at that particular meeting. I spoke to everyone. I don't give a shit if that's not solid enough for you.
"I don't give a shit ..." - I know, you want to keep all the shit to yourself.
"not solid enough for you" - hell no, all you tell me is same shit that keeps bubbling out of your mouth. There aren't too many alternative on the market yet to iPhone and Windows Mobile. All other crap, like RIM's Blackberry, now Nokia owned Symbian OS, etc - these don't have nearly as much software written for them or supported hardware. So those "competent" techs ate as much shit as you did for breakfast, dumpster.
lol what a dickweed. Tell you what, if you ever come to where I work and try to tell me my job, I'll tell you, "there's the door, walk through it sunshine".
Jeez, work where you work? No, thanks! I have much better place in this life than hanging out with some shitty dudes. You must be really, really stupid to say something like that. In what world do you think I will be working where you work? I wouldn't reduce myself to that, ass-head.
