@Phlaneran it was more than likely a polyurethane. You can find it at walmart or any craft store near you it's a sealer for charcoal, contae crayon, graphite and soft pastels. If sprayed lightly it won't seal it so much that paint won't stick to it. It's usually only about 3 to 5 dollars.

I'm an artist, man this is so different from me hey, I couldn't stand painting like this... going over it again and again and again... the hours and hours spent on something that just wouldn't be worth enough money to waster that much time on. Th most painful thing watching this is how he keeps changing his mind over and over again on how he wants the nose. I guess I could never be an oil painter.
@Alesxca everyone starts at the bottom, just gotta practice. I can promise you that he wasn't creating works at this level at the start of his training
@Alesxca haha. Well, it depends upon how much you're selling the finished painting for. He's an illustrator, so he's doing this for a publisher, which pays him good money. It's basically part of their marketing and advertising.
If you're a fine artist, you're selling paintings to super rich people who buy art, fancy cars, yachts, homes in the Hamptons, and get trophy wives, etc as status symbols. If you're trying to sell art to middle class people, you'll starve, unless you're selling prints.
you are a genius!!!! pencil, spray, then paint!!! OMG i cant wait to try this technique! i thought i found a cool technique (water color pencil drawing on canvas, then use white oil paint to blend, but then i would lose the original drawing sometimes with over blending.) A+++++
@tehditchdiver That's a crap attitude to take. Wanna know the difference between this guy and you? Time. That's it. When I went to art college I was a natural. I was "the best" artist in the class according to everyone. By the time I finished school, people who LITERALLY could not draw stick figures, had styles I wish I had.
If this is something you are passionate about, take the time to develop YOUR style, and stop worrying about everyone else's. Do it because you love it, not to impres othrs
It's a beautiful painting, but I never really thought it fit as the cover of Warbreaker. Is that supposed to be Vivenna, or Siri? I guess the exhaled rainbow ribbon is meant to be bioChroma, but it's not a great representation of the magic, IMHO. And please don't tell me that sword is supposed to be Nightblood. :/ BEAUTIFUL painting, but only an average book cover.
@FarLyannaMai I know how you feel man. I think it has to be vivenna since siri didn't use any Breath, but a sword like night blood was black bladed with a smoke bleeding off the blade, meant to suck the Breath of its owner...sounded epic. But like you said, along with everyone else, the illustration is to die for. Once I learn how to draw, I think I'll draw scenes from books I've read!
@t260y If u liked warbreaker- u should like mistborn!
What i liked about the mistborn trilogy was that each book was so strong on its own. While it told one big story, it also had major events that made each book strong storywise.
It has great; characters, magic systems, politics, enemies and fight scenes! Book one was great because the whole mystery surrounding the dark lord was so interesting.
The trilogy is def worth a read! Hope this helps u mate!
@WieldtheKey i know, it is quite litterally just another form of tracing but great for creating photorealistic works or drawing accurate elevation drawings of cities from photos
everyone please check out the video of my Oil painting. It took me 5 months to finish and its 4 feet by 6 feet. let me know what you think of the piece. the video is called - Monumental Oil painting- from start to finish
WOW!! The sword is my favorite part, it is so real, I don't understand how you got there... However, I liked the woman more when she had those different, unrealistic hues of purple, green and blue!!
This is absolutely magical! I watched this with my jaw on the floor for the entire 5 minutes and 30 seconds. The artist is a genius. How anyone can begin with a blank canvas and end with perfect beauty is astonishing. I especially adored the work on the face and the sword. Well done!
love the cover, love the book, love this drawing and love this music. (:
i read the free, legal version of brandon sanderson's Warbreaker online before it was published, then bought it when it came out, partly because the book was so awesome, partly because of how beautiful the cover was. awesome video, and excellent job on the cover!
Wow. I am amazed, this is very nice. I went to your website, hoping to see this in slow-mo... I guess it's time I pick up my brushes again... Medieval and Renaissance illustrations have always been a mysterious and romantic era to me. I love your work, keep it up!
