@hilaryduffcs1996 I don't know about the sports thing. These girls eat 3 cheetos and then decide too punish themselves with a 1000 sit ups and then an hour jig on a treadmill or exercise bike. Sports and physical activity is part of the problem with this situation. They would be better off being couch potatoes and eating in a reasonable way. Look at all the older women who where their bones and bodies out running extreme distances!

Most patients believe that their ED was only about becoming thin, but soon realize it's about family, financial problems, or even friends. It's almost never about a guy. Some eating disorders go as far as eating so much until you fall asleep or binging and purging. Never look at an eating disorder that simply. The problem is within.
@RainHasFallen, At the end of the day they want to be slim because they think they will be sexy for SOME GUY! They don't realize skeletons are not all that sexy. An extra 5 lbs or 10 lbs on a girl is actually kind of nice. Fat is there for a reason, it's a reserve your body keeps for an emergency. Having a little around is a good thing, not a lot but a little is good and healthy.

anorexia isn't how skinny you are, it's a mental disorder, which means constantly counting calories, a distorted self body image, thinking your bigger than you actually are and a fear of putting on weight 'nervous' about is, which is where the nervosa in anorexia nervosa comes from, yes it is a quick loss of weight, but it doesn't neccersarily mean you're super skinny.
Really you should listen to this song cuz I worry to but the song says I need to know I will be ok. Best and all I need to know. Most should say in comments is thats all I wanted to know. Food is never as good as love and for that I will starve. Love is never as good as god for when there is no god I will never be alone. Love starved is worse omen.

There are many people who behave in this way yet just because they have not lost the amount of weight just yet that's considered as anorexic people dismiss them as being ill in this way. This to me is very wrong & as long as these people are ignored they will eventually reach that place but by then it may be too late. Very sad

By obese and severely obese people of any age there is no example where extreme reduction of food intake resulted in weight loss of skeletal proportion.

Eating disorders have to do with feeling like you have complete and total control over an aspect of your life (your weight). It has nothing to do with looking like a celeb. If there were NO celebs in the world, we would have just as much eating disorders as we do now.
I feel sorry for celebrities. We blame them for giving girls a bad image about weight, but celebrities are the one under the most pressure. We say we want these girls to look healthy and normal but then we call them fat. Like remember Britney at the 2007 VMA's? She got called fat even though she looked very healthy.

Drug addiction and eating disorders often go hand in hand. Lots of people with eating disorders take drugs, particularly uppers, in an effort to suppress their appetites.

I didn't say that they use them more necessarily. However, some people with eating disorders do use drugs in an effort to suppress their appetites. That is a fact. I know several girls that I went to school with who abused adderall that they got from ADHD kids for that very reason. So, no, it's not a myth. I have seen it happen.
Again, I did not say that all people with eating disorders use drugs more than people who don't. Please, stop putting words in my mouth. They often do go hand in hand. That's not to say that most people with eating disorders abuse drugs. That's to say that those who do use drugs have drug problems and an eating disorder. I never said that other people don't use drugs. I'm just saying that some people who have eating disorders use drugs to suppress their appetites. That is a fact.
actingqween, thanks for explaining. Yes, you're right, sometimes people with EDs use drugs. All I was saying is that I don't think it's been shown that the prevalence of drug use is higher among ED sufferers than among non-ED sufferers. I think we agree on that. You're absolutely right, some people with EDs use drugs to suppress appetites, although in my years with ED, knowing many people who had it, I only very rarely met one who was doing that, but you're right, it does happen sometimes.

These don't seem like the right pictures to portray an eating disorder. They look fine to me. I'm not saying they don't have one, they just don't look like it on here. And Mary Kate Olsen is a twin who's only like 5 feet tall. She's a tiny person! I think people need to take that into consideration when they judge her size.

anorexia isn't how skinny you are, it's a mental disorder, which means constantly counting calories, a distorted self body image, thinking your bigger than you actually are and a fear of putting on weight 'nervous' about is, which is where the nervosa in anorexia nervosa comes from, yes it is a quick loss of weight, but it doesn't neccersarily mean you're super skinny.

There are many people who behave in this way yet just because they have not lost the amount of weight just yet that's considered as anorexic people dismiss them as being ill in this way. This to me is very wrong & as long as these people are ignored they will eventually reach that place but by then it may be too late. Very sad

@caralegoland It is overlooked that only by young, normal weight people and young, underweight people extreme reduction of food intake will lead to skeletal proportions of weight loss.
By obese and severely obese people of any age there is no example where extreme reduction of food intake resulted in weight loss of skeletal proportion.

Eating disorders have to do with feeling like you have complete and total control over an aspect of your life (your weight). It has nothing to do with looking like a celeb. If there were NO celebs in the world, we would have just as much eating disorders as we do now.

I feel sorry for celebrities. We blame them for giving girls a bad image about weight, but celebrities are the one under the most pressure. We say we want these girls to look healthy and normal but then we call them fat. Like remember Britney at the 2007 VMA's? She got called fat even though she looked very healthy.

Drug addiction and eating disorders often go hand in hand. Lots of people with eating disorders take drugs, particularly uppers, in an effort to suppress their appetites.

I didn't say that they use them more necessarily. However, some people with eating disorders do use drugs in an effort to suppress their appetites. That is a fact. I know several girls that I went to school with who abused adderall that they got from ADHD kids for that very reason. So, no, it's not a myth. I have seen it happen.

actingqween, thanks for explaining. Yes, you're right, sometimes people with EDs use drugs. All I was saying is that I don't think it's been shown that the prevalence of drug use is higher among ED sufferers than among non-ED sufferers. I think we agree on that. You're absolutely right, some people with EDs use drugs to suppress appetites, although in my years with ED, knowing many people who had it, I only very rarely met one who was doing that, but you're right, it does happen sometimes.
