I drank a whole carton of soy milk one morning in 2010, and am still constipated a year later. I've tried everything under the sun to no avail. a six shooter may be next option. My quality of life is ruined. I have one bowel movement every week. I used to be able to go each day. I've tried fiber supplements, probiotics etc. I am now deppressed
anxiety makes IBS ten times worse... all these damn cures and medicines around and yet no one has found a solid cure against this awful disease.I just hope to live a better life while still in this life, what good will it do if they find the cure in 20 years from now...keep hoping and fingers crossed! P.S HEMORRHOIDS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video! I used to have IBS and 2 things relieved the symptoms for me. The first was the aloe gel drink by Forever and a food allergy test. The test showed that the main foods I had a lot of, I was actually intolerant to. So I really recommend having that done so you know what foods are your trigger. People think you have to live with IBS but you don't. I'm 99% fine now, just a very occasional bout. Hope that helps
This sounds really odd, but can exercising cause IBS symptoms? Every time I have been working out lately. (Aerobics type) I IBS have symptoms the next morning sometimes later that day, if I have worked out early enough. When I eat fiber, it brings out the symptoms too. (Is there a such thing as a "fiber sensitivity"? If so there is no doubt I have it! I find I am becoming like a hermit, because I am afraid of having an accident in public or something.
Thank You very much for the info, I have been suffering from lower bloating & constipation for about 5 weeks, I originally thought I came down with candida although after 2 anti-fungal scripts eating ridicously healthy it still has its claws in me. Your info gives me lots of questions to ask my gi doctor next month. Thank You!!
I once shit my pants in Disney World. It was so embarassing, I had to throw my underwear away. Like seriously, I shit everywheres. One kid came by and literally slipped in the shit that was seeping out of my pants. I wasn't sure who was more embarassed, me, him, or his mother who had to wipe my shit off her child's face. Unfortunatley she didn't have anything to use, and the bathroom was ironically out of toilet paper and paper towel, so she was forced to wet my shitty underwear and use it!
I am not crazy. I suffer with anxiety and it has trashed my digestive system. I have so completely changed my diet with no improvement. I have diverticulitis for years and believe IBS is the underlying cause of many episodes that were blamed on diverticulitis. And or suffer from both, I cant reduce the anxiety which ''attacks'' my digestive system. Dr Liz is very informative, unfortunately my Dr keeps pushing fiber and antibiotics and life is misery. Rarely I eat trash food and I feel good??
I'm 20 and I have the IBS also... If there is someone, who would like to exchange the experiences, let me know and contact me here on . I want to have a friend with IBS so not feel alone. my google and facebook id is fun.on2004@gmail.com
I have had IBS for about ten years now. The best advice I can give is to eliminate stress from you life. There are also other factors that can make IBS worse, but for me it was stress. Eating MSG, fatty foods, and alcohol all bring back my IBS problems. IBS and alcohol are a big no no. For me mental stress and worry go right to my digestive tract. As soon as I get stressed I have issues, relax and they subside and I feel better. I also use peppermint oil capsules. They helped me a lot.
I'm 20 and I have the IBS also... If there is someone, who would like to exchange the experiences, let me know and contact me here on Youtube profile. I want to have a friend with IBS so not feel alone.
I feel like i've been alive just to go through this pointless illness my whole life. When will we finally be free from it? Amazing that there's no cause or justification for it.
I had chronic IBS for YEARS. It is clearly inflammatory process. Cut out grains (gluten) went on Paleo Diet and problem gone 100% in 6 months. No more IBS + eczema and psoriasis.
@lizlipski......... wow really well i had it since i was 9 (now im 15) and it is cause when im stress or my diet went bad does that mean mine is the same thing that u just said?
Hello, thanks for the video! Sometimes when I pass bowel movements, I get this horrible/stressful/anxiety/world is ending/ feeling. I don't associate the feeling to pain but more like extreme onset of anxiety and "unwellbeing". I don't relate this type of feeling to the panic/anxiety of a panic attack nor physical "pain" as I said earlier. However after my bowel movement passes, I feel fine. Sometimes it feels like I'm not done even when I'm pretty much finished passing.
Very informative thank you very much! I have Crohn`s disease and IBS , it is very encouraging to hear that there are doctors who made this there field of work and take this syndrome seriously (that is a rare thing indeed!) . And I learned a lot, thanks again. ;-D - Friendly regards - Theo
Thank you! Great video - will be purchasing your book/s :-) Off to the Dr now to see about what they can do for me now I'm armed with all this info! Thanks!! xx
First of all, if you haven't seen a gastroenterologist, go to just rule out anything serious. Mucous can signal something serious OR nothing at all. But good to have it checked out. Ask about testing for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
I would recommend then that you work with someone who can help. Look at the Institute for Functional Medicine website for a clinician in your area. And then many people, like me, also do phone consults. Too complex to just guess.
Hi, I got IBS-C, constipation and i dont think you have said anything about mucus stools? IBS comes and goes for me, I cant pin-point the food or any cause but i have pin-point certain food groups.
Oily foods or foods that uses oil, basically fried, tend to give my IBS-C. I never had IBS-D or any other. I may have gas but i'm not sure. My lower bowel hurts when i have gas but i cannot pass it, which causes more pain for me. I have also stopped drinking milk as i may be lactose intolerance.
I have serious bowel problems / stomach problems.. i almost feel like i dont wanna live anymore.. its terrible. my parents think its ibs but i think its something else.
@olfan92 such as? if u have chronic diarrhea, i suggest u get tests fast, incase of ... cancer =/.
i was where u were, an unknown step, why the pain... why should i suffer for this. well do what i do, ease the stress and build up your remaining strength to feel pain again, and test what's causing it and what is not causing it. U may need to change ur diet to do this.
like other videos say, keep going to the doctor, feel like they r lying, change doctors until u get the result u want.
@olfan92 i was giving u suggestion... not facts about u.
im no doctor... but what u said was what i thought of. I dont no what u look like or what u feel. no words expresses it. I dont no nothing about u but im only trying to help open up some sort of help
if u dont want it then just dont say anything. this is the internet after all.
I am so sorry that you are feeling so badly. If you have already seen a doctor and a gastroenterologist and still don't feel well, please do a consult with someone who looks larger. You may have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth or another type of infection that regular physicians cannot find. I work via phone, or you can find someone at the Institute for Functional Medicine who is more local. Did you try taking some probiotics? If not, they may be useful.
i have GERD for more than a year and along with that i have IBS,doctors told me that there is a connection between them.I have taken all medications and changed my life styles stress etc but still have the porblem, its very painful to live with
I believe I have Chemical IBS from disinfectants used in the restaurant industry. I am currently using Dicyclomine (Bentyl). I used it regularly at first for about 6 months, now I use it if I am eating anywhere where it has been a problem in the past or if I feel any tension of the bowel.
Dear Tryphena, People do get chemical sensitivity. You probably need to do a very gentle detox with food and supplements. You can probably find someone locally who can work with you on this. There are many chiropractors, nutritionists, and other clinicians who will understand you. If a simple detox doesn't work, find a doctor through the Amer Academy of Environmental Medicine. These docs specialize in people with environmental issues.
Thank you for understanding how IBS affects the lives of sufferers. My life has literally been controlled by my IBS for years. 3 mos ago I discovered (by accident) that milk was the problem and I now feel like I have a new lease on life. I take a calcium supplement in addition to acidophilis and a multi with iron every day. Thanks for great info!
my ibs makes me have so much pain. i feel pain that is like similar to child birth. its like a pain that i cannot deal with . and doctors are hard to deal with since im on medicare/medicaid im on bentyl right now it works for pain but makes me drunk like.
I have IBS-C, lactose intolerance and various food sensitivities. I was dx with H. Pylori in 2007. I was given triple antibiotic therapy in 2007 and in Dec 2009 had a breath test to confirm that the H. Pylori was eradicated. The breath test came back negative. I'm curious to find out if I have a small bowel infection. Thank you Dr. Lipski for your pod cast. Very informative!
@InnovativeHealing i am haveing pain in my stomach 4 3 month i went to the dr had an endoscopy came back fine am going to get a colonoscopy.does ibs make yore stomech rombal an do lots of sounds i had not had a bowle movement in a long time can u help
@maythugin Given the situation you describe you should be working with a qualified holistic health professional. Try nanp-org, iaacn-org, naturopathic-org, and functionalmedicine-org to find someone.
I have IBS and I am allergic to soy, lactose intolerant, mint allergic, and I can't handle most foods. I am in constant pain and the vicodin I take only takes the edge off the pain. Checked for infections and don't have any. I can't eat most carb-filled foods and veggies and fruits are nearly impossible. Most foods with protein are too harsh on my stomach. I also practice stress-relieving techniques. Not sure what is left to do.
Have you checked our video "Health Benefits of an Elimination Diet"? This sounds like it would be beneficial for you. If you don't already, you should check into taking a digestive enzyme and a probiotic. Have you tried acupuncture? It can help on many levels including your pain. Keep practicing your stress-relieving techniques. Be well.
i've had ibs for years. one thing i've noticed over the years is that in the beginning, ibs starts off as a physical problem, but after a certain time, it becomes more of a psychological problem.
I've had IBS since I was 14 and am now 23. I've always been fond of diary products especially MILK..... I kind of just lived with and got used the constant bloating and burping, but now I think its time for some lifestyle changes.
A recent colonoscopy came back normal and they are now looking into an ovarian problem, but I feel that this is most likely ibs.....i need help!!! i am now thousands into debt, it is taking a toll on my relationship with my husband, and i am becoming depressed because of it.
It would be important for you to look outside the box a bit. Ask your gastroenterologists to test you for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (its a breath test and easy to do.) Also, working with a nutritionist may be able to help you. Often IBS is due to food sensitivity issues.
I am 23 years old and can always remember having off and on digestive problems as a child, but in the last 2 years I have been suffering with constant severe bloating, pains and aches in my right lower abdomen and up into my ribcage. The doctors have done several tests and I just had my gall bladder removed a couple months ago, but the symptoms are still there, if not worse. CONTINUED......
Very usefull video, I´ve had IBS for 5 years now, and it has totally changed my life, I can not go by public transport without being nervous, traveling is very stressfull....I am only 35 and live an active life, weightlifting, motorcycleriding etc, but this is holding me back,,,very sad.
This video is great - i have been to my doctor 3 times this year already about my problems and he keeps telling me i'm stressed and that I need to calm down - easier said that done. I found this to be far more informative and it has given me a few other options to try - thank you so much
@4chango i found out I have celiac.i have to avoid wheat.i had lots pain, skin problems-So this is what God led me to personally: 1 or 2 Raw carrots in the morning on empty stomach ( blend with little water or eat plain), and try to have a spoon full of PLAIN yogurt with any meal. i might make a yogurt greek dip to eat carrots. My stomach is healed from many symptoms. vitamin heals stomach! carrots are deadly to some things that may be living in gut, & yogurt adds to "good guys" to gut.
@onegreeneye: I will be posting a complete naturopathic regimen on my channel in the comment section in the future. Just keep an eye out when you see it just copy it because after posting the regimen I only leave them posted for a week or two and then remove them.
I am so sorry to hear of your pain and discomfort. You should read Digestive Wellness, and the sections dedicated to flatulence and constipation, in relation to IBS.
For a simple suggestion to try: Activia yogurt, eat daily for two weeks. This has been shown to help some people with relieving flatulence due to constipation.
I've had these symptoms for 2 years now and it has ruined my life.
I'm 18, healthy, I go to the gym. Used to go to school and get good grades. But not anynore. People complained and sniffed all the time about a flatulence smell, I finally found out it was me when someone told me directly. People complain about my breath all the time but i dont know why because I brush my teeth and floss 3 times a day. I have alot of has and Im constipated. I am depressed.
If that doesn't help and you aren't gaining any help from what you are reading. You should try and find someone to work with, that is holistically trained in nutrition or is a naturopath.
I m not a doctor but try the medicine "Placil with Enzymes" it will finish your IBS problem forever. it is available in Pakistan you may confirm its substitute from Dr. Lipski in your country. The contents of this medicine are wonderful. GET WELL SOON !
Sorry to hear your having such troubles! You'll have to have your mom or dad contact me for information on what you might do. Also ask them to take you to a holistic Doctor.
Nice clip, professionally done! Just two things, one I am lactose intolerant, and a member of 75 (three fourths) of the world's population, also though some methane gas is produced, the breath test mainly looks for hydrogen inthe breath, as the milk produces hydrogen.
There are several types of seratonin receptors. There have also been several types of SSRI's developed to help with the IBS seratonin receptors, however the have not been proven effective for most people. Some people could benefit from the use of SSRI's but the likelihood of this is not very high at this time. The best thing you can do is stabalize your gut. By healing your gut you can not only address the depression associated with IBS, you can feel better and may be able to feel more sociable.
because of IBS i had to go to the bathroom like 5 times in the day at school. i could never finish sitting in class. i missed all the info in school , i missed a lot of school because of ibs. i dont' like meeting anyone new or deal with people socially because of it.
it pretty much ruined my life. and im beyond depressed because of it.
i am undergoing test at the moment and they cant find anything wrong with me im a 19 year old girl and its very hard to live with it i cant go out with my friends and i have a fear of traffic now in case i dont have access to a toilet im afraid of going on long journeys or even gettin a job cos people dont understand id rather have 10years of a life without stomach problems than living woth this for life...help me innovative healing??
Im so sorry that you are having so many issues with IBS. If you have always had issues, then I advise you to stop eating wheat, sugar, corn syrup, and dairy products for at least 3 weeks.
Its possible that you are gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. Read all labels really carefully to avoid all wheat, oats, barley, rye, and dairy derivatives. Avoid sweets and soft drinks.
If this is something fairly new, perhaps you have an infection or parasite that can be treated by a physician. Also, you will find a huge amount of information from my book, Digestive Wellness. You definitely can feel better than you do.
I have episodes of diarreha, stomach crampping, and hot flashes with fever. This only happens about every month to month and a half. It feels like I have a huge build up and then it all just happens. The strange thing is,...I have a bowel movement every day. I started on probiotics roughly a month ago and it still happened. Can you share your thoughts?
I think that you ought to go see a doctor about this...preferably one who knows about integrative health. Fevers and hot flashes aren't normal. Because of the cyclic nature of this, I am suspicious that you might have a parasite. You'll need to do lab testing to find out. The best time to do a stool test would be while this is going on...use the diarrhea.
thank you very much.. it was really hellp full... waiting for your next video

Isn't meat protines one of the harder things for our body to digest??
smjw76 2 years ago
Yes, meat can be difficult to digest. Low-fat meat eaten in moderation is fine for some people.

How can you tell from IBS and colorectal canceR? Both have similar symptoms.....
malmsteen2002 2 years ago
If you are not sure, you may need to go to a good GI doctor.

Not sure what is left to do.
artangel54321 2 years ago
Have you checked our video "Health Benefits of an Elimination Diet"? This sounds like it would be beneficial for you. If you don't already, you should check into taking a digestive enzyme and a probiotic. Have you tried acupuncture? It can help on many levels including your pain. Keep practicing your stress-relieving techniques. Be well.

i've had ibs for years. one thing i've noticed over the years is that in the beginning, ibs starts off as a physical problem, but after a certain time, it becomes more of a psychological problem.
pibada2 2 years ago
This is very true, there are physical and psychological components that impact all diseases.
Thank you for calling attention to this.

I've had IBS since I was 14 and am now 23. I've always been fond of diary products especially MILK..... I kind of just lived with and got used the constant bloating and burping, but now I think its time for some lifestyle changes.

CONTINUED FROM BELOW....
A recent colonoscopy came back normal and they are now looking into an ovarian problem, but I feel that this is most likely ibs.....i need help!!! i am now thousands into debt, it is taking a toll on my relationship with my husband, and i am becoming depressed because of it.
AVDlicious 2 years ago

You can take enteric coated peppermint oil capsules, you can find them at your local health food store.
However, if this does not work you may have to take medication.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

what is the herbal cure for intestinal infection? i have cheap doctors that wont help. where do i buy itall ?

@onegreeneye: Do you still have it?
4chango 1 year ago
@4chango i found out I have celiac.i have to avoid wheat.i had lots pain, skin problems-So this is what God led me to personally: 1 or 2 Raw carrots in the morning on empty stomach ( blend with little water or eat plain), and try to have a spoon full of PLAIN yogurt with any meal. i might make a yogurt greek dip to eat carrots. My stomach is healed from many symptoms. vitamin heals stomach! carrots are deadly to some things that may be living in gut, & yogurt adds to "good guys" to gut.

@onegreeneye: Have you tried a better naturopathic approach?
4chango 1 year ago
@4chango i have only tried these foods to heal - i dont kno another way
onegreeneye 1 year ago
@onegreeneye: I will be posting a complete naturopathic regimen on my channel in the comment section in the future. Just keep an eye out when you see it just copy it because after posting the regimen I only leave them posted for a week or two and then remove them.

I am so sorry to hear of your pain and discomfort. You should read Digestive Wellness, and the sections dedicated to flatulence and constipation, in relation to IBS.
For a simple suggestion to try: Activia yogurt, eat daily for two weeks. This has been shown to help some people with relieving flatulence due to constipation.

Please Dr. Lipski please help me
I've had these symptoms for 2 years now and it has ruined my life.
TheNoori 2 years ago
If that doesn't help and you aren't gaining any help from what you are reading. You should try and find someone to work with, that is holistically trained in nutrition or is a naturopath.
Good Luck and Hugs!

Nice clip, professionally done! Just two things, one I am lactose intolerant, and a member of 75 (three fourths) of the world's population, also though some methane gas is produced, the breath test mainly looks for hydrogen inthe breath, as the milk produces hydrogen.
oterwise, again, well done video!

could ibs be related to a yeast infection in the stomach

There are several types of seratonin receptors. There have also been several types of SSRI's developed to help with the IBS seratonin receptors, however the have not been proven effective for most people. Some people could benefit from the use of SSRI's but the likelihood of this is not very high at this time. The best thing you can do is stabalize your gut. By healing your gut you can not only address the depression associated with IBS, you can feel better and may be able to feel more sociable.
InnovativeHealing 2 years ago
do SSRI's help if ibs is a seratonin problem ???

ciaras18 2 years ago
Dear Ciraras,
Im so sorry that you are having so many issues with IBS. If you have always had issues, then I advise you to stop eating wheat, sugar, corn syrup, and dairy products for at least 3 weeks.
InnovativeHealing 2 years ago
Its possible that you are gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. Read all labels really carefully to avoid all wheat, oats, barley, rye, and dairy derivatives. Avoid sweets and soft drinks.
If this is something fairly new, perhaps you have an infection or parasite that can be treated by a physician. Also, you will find a huge amount of information from my book, Digestive Wellness. You definitely can feel better than you do.
Best

I have episodes of diarreha, stomach crampping, and hot flashes with fever. This only happens about every month to month and a half. It feels like I have a huge build up and then it all just happens. The strange thing is,...I have a bowel movement every day. I started on probiotics roughly a month ago and it still happened. Can you share your thoughts?
timesaverdetailguy 3 years ago
Dear Guy,
I think that you ought to go see a doctor about this...preferably one who knows about integrative health. Fevers and hot flashes aren't normal. Because of the cyclic nature of this, I am suspicious that you might have a parasite. You'll need to do lab testing to find out. The best time to do a stool test would be while this is going on...use the diarrhea.
best,
Liz
