Dr. Canfield performed Galvanic experimentation on him. It was this experiment that inspired Mary Shelly to write Frankenstein in 1818. Come take my Halloween Graveyard Tour if you want to know more!
In the 1800's most people could not afford to have a painting made of their dead loved ones. Photography was used in the late 1800's and the dead people were photographed often with props. These photos were often the only remembrances people had of their loved ones. A lot of people would carry around tuffs of hair from the deceased, sometimes making jewelry or other things with the hair. What seems macabre to us was commonplace back then. I'm not surprised about the wallet.
when my grammy died, grandpa made me a doll out of her skin and hair. Its the most beautiful doll I have ever seen and I have slept with her every night for the past 25 years.
To bad they took down Jimmy's and turned it into a bank. i liked that restaurant >:| and and that guy was hung at the Green. i used to play at the Green a lot lol :)
I have been in Morristown numerous times. I heard that a bank stands where the Sayre house once stood. I would sometimes pass the bank. Why would they put a bank on where a horrific murder took place. The crime of Antoine LeBlanc is very barbaric.
making sttuff out of human skin is not to uncommon. a book about lincoln was sold with embedded skin of executed black men. news . national geographic . (com) / news/ 2006/04/0411_060411_skin_book . (html)
Ooh, and also, for Halloween this year they're having a "Find Antoine LeBlanc" scavenger hunt around the town! Fun! (wonder if wallets will be involved...)
This is part of the rich history of the town. Before the Sayre's was Jimmy's Haunt, was actually called Phoebe's after the maid-a nice touch. Remember when it was Winston's- my sis had her wed recept there. Shame it's gone now-another piece of Morristown destroyed. Soon it will be all banks and law offices, Surprised the Green is still even there-give them time- they'll soon decide they need another ghastly building like HQ Plaza...)
I worked for Bellcore in Morristown for 8 years. I used to go to Jimmy's after work with some co-workers for some R&R. I was told by a manager that this story was true and that the restaurant was haunted by the spirt of Pheobe, the servant. Lights flicker and weird sightings have happened to a friend of mine who had his wedding reception there. Jim
hi. did u c any phenomenons of spirits wile u there? cuz im an expert on ghosts and i can tell u if u should move as soon as possible or find better lightings to the house.
It wasn't an unusual practice to use human skin (especially of convicts) to bind books. I heard that the college libraries in the east like Harvard have many of them.
A true story. My wife is a nurse at Morristown Memorial and have sat in the square at times with her. Neat place to just chill, eat, and watch people.
