  • McBrain's the man. That's a very bright sounding ride. What is this taken from?

  • @DrummerFreak04: It's from the Rhythms of the Beast Video. You can search it on here. I uploaded the whole video on my other channel.

  • ....IRON MAIDEN KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Haha, yeah.

  • @yeapno

  • BRITISHKID1992, thanks for the reply about the heads, it's been bugging the hell ot of me. On of THE BEST drummers ever!

    UP THE IRONS!

  • Haha, no problem my freind, i use remo controlled sound heads myself, absolutley awsome for that classic heavy metal/rock drum pitch. UP THE IRONS!

  • Say, just to bother you some more, do you know what type of heads he used on his big white Sonor kit, in the same clinic? They also have the silver dots, but they look to be black(Ebony?). If you know by any chance, I'd appreciate the info.

  • Hello again neir654!. we, all throughout the 80's and the early 90's Nicko used ludwig silver dot heads, instead of remo controlled sound, i dont exacly no what there made of, it could be ebony ya!, but ludwig no longer make these heads which is a shame cause they look sweet and sound sweet, i would love to have nickos giant sonor kit, im a sonor user myself! UP THE IRONS!

  • Hey, thanks again for the reply, hope I'm not annoying you too much, I've had drums for just under a year now and I'm trying to pick up as much info as I can in general, especially regarding Nicko since he's one of my absolute favorite drummers!

    UP THE IRONS!

  • Hello again neir654, haha no your not annoyingme at all, its good to meet people who are Nicko fans like myself, thats pretty cool!, ive been playing drums for about 6 years now, im obsessed with Nicko and Iron Maiden, im trying to build a replica kit like Nickos full size one, not exaclly the same colour, but sonor, and i use paiste cymbals, nice talking to you!

    UP THE IRONS!

  • Haha, fantastic, I wish you the best of luck in rebuilding that kit. Man, his Sonor drums were amazing, so much better then the Premiers(although they're pretty good too and, besides, my drums are Premier. XD XD XD!!). Were you talking about his Black Chrome kit? That just sounds AWESOME. I have a bootleg concert from 1986, the quality is not top notch, but the drums are pretty clear and just... AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

    Awesomeness... :) :) :)

  • Hello there bloodguard41, haha thanks!, yeah! i love his Sonor kits so much more than his Premier ones, Sonor have always made amazing drums, i would love his 1986 black chrome kit!, its my favorite one of his collection to be ohnest lol. thats sweet!, where abouts is the concert?

    UP THE IRONS!

  • Cheers again, friend! About the concert, I picked it up from "isohunt", I believe, it was something like a discography torrent, not sure which one exactly but if you want to check, write "1986. Sheffield Arena" in the search, it should find it.

Back to the topic of heads! :)

You said you use Controlled Sound, is that on the snare only or on the toms as well?

    \m/ \m/ \m/!!!!!

  • No problems my freind! Ah cool!, ive watched some of live at sheffield 1986, its a shame theres not alot of footage from that tour cause its so awsome! love it and the album, absolutley brilliant!. i use controlled sounds on all my toms, and i will eventually get one for my snare! UP THE IRONS \m/

  • That's great. I have a coated CS head on my 12" tom, coated Emperor on the 13" and clear Pinstripe on the 16"(suffice it to say, I didn't know a whole lot about drumheads when I was getting them :P ). When I got the CS, I initially did it because I thought it looked great, which is a very dumb reason, I know, but as it turns out, it's the best sounding head I've tried! I absolutely love the thing!!! XD

  • Hello again!, Haha, yea niether did i when i started, and to be ohnest i first saw them and i was like wow they look great haha! and i orderd them, i had hear them before and thought they sounded great, and ive stuck with them for the past two years, i dont think i'd have anyother drum head haha. but no i can understand your reason for buying them!. UP THE IRONS! \m/

  • yeah, fantastic heads. I know different people have different tastes, but I just don't understand that not a lot of people use these heads. Say, what kind of heads do you use on the bottom, and if it's not a problem, could you give me specifics about your kit(drum line, cymbals, pedals, etc..), I'm really interested in these things.

    UP THE IRONS FROM CROATIA!!!

  • Hello again, yeah i dont understand why people dont use them much either!. at the moment i have the standard sonor ones that came with the kit, my kit is fairly new, my kit line is a Sonor force 3007 maple, it came with Sonor 400 series hardware which really top notch stuff, i couldnt ask for better to be ohnest. I use Paiste cymbals, i have about 9 haha, i have some 2002 series some rudes, a 900 series from 1984 and a sound reflections from 1986. UP THE IRONS FROM ENGLAND! \m/

  • My apologies. This is neir654, I've just sent you a message about 20 , but I failed to notice I was logged on with a different account. I know, stupid. Just to clear up any misunderstandings.

  • Lucky bastard. ;)

That sounds great, after 6 years of playing, you must be pretty good by now. :)

As I said, I've only been playing for a year, my kit is a black Premier Olimpic series, nothing special but with the right heads, sounds sweet, and I still have a way to go with my playing.

Anyways, thanks for the info, and I'll think of a new item to bother you with soon. XD

Take care and keep up the playing!

    UP THE IRONS!

  • Haha thaks, yeah, ive been collecting them for a while now. im not bad, to be ohonest i play by ear, i can play some good stuff and im not that bad at solo's lol.. thats sweet! Premier make some nice kits! what cymbals do you use?. no problem at all my freind anytime! take care! i will! you keep up the playing too!.

    UP THE IRONS! \m/

  • Nicko Won Metal Hammers Golden God Drummer Award

  • Hey there! Unfortunately, my kit is VERY basic regarding cymbals, the hi-hat and crash that came with the kit and a Paiste(B-) ) 20" ride, brass. The stock cymbals are obviously low quality, but I get around with it, considering my level of playing, and besides, I've only had the things for a year now. Give it time! It'll grow! XD

    Later! \m/

  • he's always smiling ..such a nice guy...

  • OK, I was part wrong, Controlled Sound or not, they're not coated

  • OK, I have to be sure: those ARE Coated Controlled Sound heads he's using here, right? There's a shot on 52 when you can sort of see the logo, but I just can't be sure, can anyone confirm this, PLEASE??!!!!

  • Hi neir654. those are controlled sound type skins, but Nicko used to get them from Ludwig drums. ans the dots were usually silver so thats why its probabaly hard to tell what make they are haha!.

    Up the Irons

  • He is my idol

  • the king of drumming!!!! there is no1 better

  • Keith Moon

  • HE IS A GOD

  • yea

  • he can play any thing

  • lol hes playing the trooper (on some parts not throughout the whole solo)

  • He says in some DVD that he wanted from the beginning a small kit...but somehow ended up with a BIG FUCKING MONSTER!!!

  • thats awesome =)

  • I think its the Rock In Rio extra material

when he says how people complained at him becouse the crowd coulndt see him behind it. He was like "I dont care if the can se me or not, this is my drumkit!"

  • At the Beginning of the "Live from Abbey Road" show, Nicko said something like that also.

  • Youre right, its from that show. My mistake

  • thats even more awesome

  • Simply the BEST Drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • it weird watching him use a small kit
