  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. You saved me a lot of time going thro many softwares just to get an image sequence.

  • Greetings, sir! :) i am very much grateful.. I never stop looking for the alpha channel you had told me.. that was the key I had thought yesterday.. I found it in virtual dub.. i chose color depth and clicked the alpha channel.. thank you so much for all the help and tuts, sir.. I have really learned a lot from you, in fact i frequently download almost your video tutorials.. hehe

  • hello sir, have a good day! I use virtual dub when converting into an image sequence..

the probe is that when i click the image sequence box.. the plane turns into black.. I tried jpg, png. tiff, iff, bmp, targa. almost every format but still got the script something like this " file doesn't exist.. thanks in advance and keep on helping people.. Godbless, sir! :)

  • @melkiejosh Honestly I wish I could help you but I have absolutely no clue about that one. My guess is that Virtual dub does not support image sequences that contain an alpha channel....For the love of all things sacred, please move up to a "real editing program" if you are going to continue in the graphics realm. You will benefit greatly from good software. Sorry I can't be of more help on this one!

  • @deepfriedectoplasm thank you so much for the suggestion sir! before i used virtual dub, i tried quicktime alternative windows version.. but when i was about to convert it into an image sequence.. the program wasn't responding.. i tried this several times but got still the same prob.. I'm running windows 7 32 bit.. anyway.. can you suggest any good editing software? :) thanks a lot sir!

  • @melkiejosh Same Issue

  • @melkiejosh

The file that are converted into image seg. normaly have:

    name_seg.ext

you will have to rename it like this, for maya:

    name.seg.ext

    Hope it helps

  • Hi! I'm, trying to import my JPEG sequence but Maya is telling me the file does not exist. Do you know why this is?

  • @kehcowan Not a clue, it's very hard to isolate something like that without being there. It's usually something simple. Try placing the folder with the image sequence in you default images folder inside of Maya and remember to just click on the first image in the sequence (don't highlight all). As well, Maya likes image sequence that have an underscore (name_frame#_extension). Just a thought, hope that helps.

  • @kehcowan Just a quick note from Deepfriedectoplasm. If you are exporting from After Effects make SURE! that you name the image sequence exactly like this Compname.###.JPG For some reason Maya only likes it like this. Try to avoid underscores in the name. This method works well for stuff exported from After effects, however I can use underscores with good results so not sure which will work for you.

  • dont worry, i fixed that now :D i didnt have texture on how silly of me :L

  • thanks for a great tutorial, but my plane just stays grey and doesnt change to the image :O do you know whats wrong? im using .tif extensions on my images

  • thanks for the help, but how would i go about doing this with a PNG sequence? when i click on the "use as sequence" tab, my poly plane turns completely black :/

  • You sir are a legend, this exactly what I was looking for, I tried everything haha, THANK YOU SIR!

  • Fantastic! Thank you! You really making me think outside the box!

Question for you: how do you like Maya for Mac? Does it run better than for windows? I want to get into this professionally and I am not sure whether to get it for the Mac or Windows.

A MILLION thanks! Please, keep these videos coming! They are EXACTLY what I need until I can afford a formal education!

  • @GleamAndGlimmer Maya is awesome on the Mac as well as PC. I run it on both and the best thing about the PC is that you really have a lot more choices as far as graphics card go. The downside is that most off the shelf PC's need a better graphics card (Nvidia is best choice) which can push the cost to the level of what a standard new iMac can give you out of the box. Check out all my tutorials on my channel and they will provide you with all the essential training! Thanks for the kind words!

  • This guy is clear as the sun ,,, Thank you !

  • Great tutorials. Really helpful and easy to understand and follow. Good job!

  • @deepfriedectoplasm

Hi I'm new to this whole maya compositing thing and I totaly hit a barrier lastnight when I imported an img sequence into maya and it wouldn't play past the first frame, came across this and it worked! I'm happy now thank you very much!

  • Thanks so much for your quick response!! I think it is a Maya Issue because I was trying with different image format like .jpeg .tga and the images are around 100 and Maya only reads (1 in the pink box, the (script) for image sequence) but I'll keep trying.

Thank you so much sir I really appreciate your help

  • Hi!! Thanks for the Tut

Have a question!! I'm importing a image sequence to Maya, that is render out as jpg from AE, but when a check "Use Image Sequence" Maya shows me only (1 image number) and everything turns black, and the image just disappears, do you know why?

    Thanks so much in advance

  • @JRMegagraph The only thing I can think of is do you have your textures enabled in the viewport? If you have lights in the scene make sure your light are on, and depending on how bright the image sequence is you may have to play around with the diffuse value and perhaps ambient color of your lambert. But, your problem does not sound typical so check everything carefully and maybe try a different image sequence to compare. Best of luck, let me know how it turns out, or if more questions. Stu

  • dude you are a freaking life saver!!!! thanks :)

  • id just like to point out to you that after effects can export as an image sequence, so why are you rendering off as a .mov then converting in another piece of software?

  • @1000Errors Yes, after effects can export image sequences for those who OWN it and have it installed on their computer. The point was to introduce and use a simple little FREE application that does an awesome job with converting any EXISTING .mov to an image sequence for those who do not OWN after effects (many people all over the world). The tutorial is about starting with a .mov and then converting it for use in Maya.

  • Great vid man... Thanks it helps out alot.
