This and "How I Made My Millions" are 2 of their b-sides I love so much. I would have loved for this to have been on Amnesiac, but, at least it was made. Preferably instead of "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors"
the vocal samples sound like tUnE-yArDs...about 8 years before tUnE-yArDs.
It must be really frustrating for these hip young bands, to think they've invented a new pioneering sound...only to realize whatever style they came up with was probably a radiohead b-side 10 years before lol.
I don't really think there's a point to re-releasing this in a new album. My gripes with TKoL is that there are so many songs that only exist in live form, usually from fanshot recordings. I'm mad that I don't have a studio-quality "Present Tense" or "Open the Floodgates". This is studio-quality however, so I could care less what becomes of it.
All the so-called music lovers, who just want "everyone to stop arguing and just enjoy the music," must stop inculcating their assumption that all music is equal to the unwitting majority. It simply is not. Music criticism begins with this realization. Eventually, we must be able to say that Coldplay is better than Radiohead or Radiohead better than Coldplay. When we just throw up our hands before the idol of our "enjoyment", we all lose.
I don't think it matters whether or not this song or any of their other brilliant b sides make it to the album. Radiohead shares everything with us. They have their own reasons I'm sure, why they don't put certain songs on the albums. I think that some people look at a b side as a step child or something. B side doesn't mean "not good enough". It just means it didn't fit with the rest. When you put all the b sides together, you get one kick ass album. nuff said.
@cbrooks0905 i think for most artists b sides means not good enough but for radiohead its a very different story because of the amazing depth their discography has
@andrewjcmillar Yeah for them, their b-sides are good songs that don't fit the moods of their albums. That's why they reuse some of them (morning mr. magpie, motion picture soundtrack, nude, etc.) for other albums.
@willynillyism What are you taking about? Considering it's only a minute and a half long, Hunting Bears is some of the most concentrated awesome that Radiohead ever released. This was probably left out because of it's similarity to Crushed like Sardines; Cuttooth was too upbeat for Amnesiac.
Today, I was listening to this song on iTunes. Once the song was over, everything on my computer totally crashed. I guess that's the greatness of Radiohead :)
I wish that either this or "Worrywort" had closed Kid A. I never liked the way that album ended, and LOATHE the way they reworked Motion Picture Soundtrack. Some songs are just meant to be played on an acoustic guitar (e.g., MPS, True Love Waits). The organ, harp, and lower register sucked all the feeling out of that song. Could be one reason why they never play it live anymore.
Personally i have to disagree, i loved the rework, and i thought it was a great way to end what is arguably the greatest ablum of all time. But its great to see someone else just as animated aout radiohead and there music.
@jackyrena, I view Kid A as a story being told. MPS definitely made sense after Morning Bell's progression. I actually thought the acoustic version was incredible myself, but I'm not sure if it works as well as an album part.
You pass out and are suspended in a state of half conciousness, unable to move or speak until the song ends and then you slowly come to and are able to function again. It's awful if you're listening to an album. Or all of their songs on shuffle on an ipod. You'll be out for hours. haha
This is definitely one of the best Radiohead songs. Just the sound makes you kind of freaked out but at the same time puts a smile on your face. Thanks for the video and song.
Folks... Kid A and Amnesiac were made together. The songs were fit into each CD from a compilation of songs they made. They might have chosen the songs for each using a particurlar method, but to consider Kid A and Amnesiac a separate concept might be too much.

Accually no i disagree i think it wouldve been better than Life in A Glass House it just got a bit silly for me on the one at the end of the song with the whole woodwinds and horns blareing and honking at the end
Maybe so one sometimes seems to stand out more than others but yeah Kid A followed a set idea so it seems but in Amnesiac they had a lot more cult following then so it may have effected how the music was shaped but all those albums are amazing and i have no complaints they are and will allways be classics
i learned at an early age through orchestral music to appreciate the depth and intellect involved in creating. whereas radiohead is far and away my favorite band, step back and see music as simply music, and creativity and intellect regardless of the artist, all music is beautiful.
I agree absolutely, Subzero. Great comment. I don't listen to stuff with meaningless lyrics anymore... Radiohead has taught me to listen to provocative music.
Having loved The Bends and OK Computer, i'll admit that i found the stuff from the kid A and Amnesiac period a little intimidating and difficult at first, but it's brilliant.
If you don't like it now, just keep on playing it, it'll grow on you as you get a feel for it
It also changes your perception of music in general. After I finally realized the depth and density of Kid A and Amnesiac I think my standards for what is "Good" music have risen greatly.
@subzeromind Yeah! After listening to radiohead for the first time, i was like this is kinda cool, but i don't get it. Then when it clicked, so much more music felt accessible to me. Really helped developed my tastes.
Most of the music in these obscure little games are only 15 second loops for situations you'll only be in for 30 seconds at a time but there's a supreme depth that is remarkably unsettling.
This and "How I Made My Millions" are 2 of their b-sides I love so much. I would have loved for this to have been on Amnesiac, but, at least it was made. Preferably instead of "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors"
