I talked to him once years ago and asked him why he finger picks. He told me he could never master the use of a pick. I have the opposite problem. I still can't master finger picking!!
just love this, like a Valentine it is, with GT&D playing just SO Good. But, especially irresistible is Thorogood, with his sliding, singing, swaggery sweet-talk and banter, he is in full possession of audience's adoration, without doubt! SO GOOD!! GT is adorable! Full of charismatic "Boy" charm, for sure! Interesting, too, are what appear to be several little Dramas, seeming to take place because of GT's particular power to charm AND Rock! What do you think?
I thought the bass player looked familiar---couple years before his big league career started with the Red Sox, ya know money was tight back then and the women were scarce, and what a better gig than to play with George---...lol
The wife & I went to one of his shows in Tulsa, Oklahoma during his '50 States in 50 Dates' tour. The music was great, but we never saw him. As soon as he came onstage everyone stood on their tables and chairs, and stayed there. I might mention that he came on at midnight, and was still rockin' when we left (at 5:00 the next morning). Tickets were $11.00 each. Something of a bargain. .. We could've stayed home and turned the stereo up all the way .
Going to see George and Johnny Lang August 21. Been going to see George since the early 80's and he still flat out brings it!!! Awesome guitar player and his band rocks too----here is to never getting old George, you are the man!!!
The man never dissappoints. Another great show at Grand Casino Hinkley (MN) Friday night 8-21-09. His age is showing, but doesn't slow him down. He just flat out brought it again-- AMAZING TALENT!!
Thanks for posting this - I saw George back in 1981? Edmonton, Kinsmen Field House. 1000 people? Definitely one of my favorites. Thanks for the memory!
My cousin saw him at an outdoor venue in the early 80's(?), raining so hard no one would play. They just stood there getting colder and wetter 'till George came out in a poncho (or trash bag?) and RIPPED untill the rain stopped. He STILL talks about that. I Saw him at college in NH, he just blew the freakin' roof off the place. thanks for the post, that guy burned like the sun back in the day...
I was at Ole Miss in '83 or '84 when they did their 50 States in 50 Days tour at a little bar called Abby's Irish rose in Oxford MS. This is just as fast, driving and energetic as punk music without all of the crap that goes with a lot of punk music. In other words George Thorogood rocks!
Saw GT in 1983 at the Capitol in Sydney, some guy ran on stage playing air guitar .
and George just rock on.
