It was at 47:27 in the clip where most millitary historians agree that this was the crucial turning point that tipped the scales in favor of the humans in this epic battle for galactic supremacy.
When I was a kid, I believed that Zantis existed and that the U.S. Military has taken care of them. Now that I am older, I believe that the neurotic-looking woman who broke through with the imbecile into the Zanti landing area is far more frightening. She looks like a lush with a hangover and her attitude is that of an overacting actress, but back then in the early 1960's, this sort of thing was the norm just like the female in Roger Corman's THE WASP WOMAN.
Another comment now that I've watched it to the end. I also loved home this and Twilight Zone often ended with a lesson learned. They always gave us food for thought, unlike todays show where you GTL or DTF really don't quite cut it. Again thanks for the upload.
It's funny how my daughter (13yrs) laughs at these type of old tv series, including the Twilight Zone. She wonder how did these things creep me out.....I always reply to her that we didn't have all the "computer generated hi-tech" effects they have today. And you know what? I like these classics better. Thanks for the upload.
lol at the moment where the soldier with the rifle sees one of the zanti, backs away, then the soldier behind him shoves that guy out of the way and shoots the ant at point blank range. XD
It's funny when they show them at a "distance" shot. You can tell they are being moved by a stick or some such. It's funny and corny, and also looks kind of cute. hehe
This was not done with stop-motion. Those are actual creatures from another planet and it was filmed on location as it occurred by Naional Geographic.
Stop-motion ants with human faces...and little rubber props stuck to the walls of buildings and pulled around by thin lines.... no computer effects, and the creators of this classic series made you believe enough to feel the hee-bee jee-bees! Nothing like the' film noir' look of 1960's television!!!
@Titan52berg The early Dr. Who episodes achieved the same thing. With no special effects to speak of, they held the viewers' attention throughout with solid writing and performances. To some degree, it was because the medium was new, and nothing like Outer Limits or Dr.Who had ever been seen before!
ahhh yes we all got freaked out and scared by the zantis as a lad i always thought the ending was so cool they knew the humans would screw up and battle the misfits cant wait till james cameron remakes this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a child, I had many wonderful nightmares about this episode. I don't have any real nightmares any more, and I miss them. They are like old friends.
I have always liked the original first season Outer Limits music. The scene where Bruce Dern is confronted by the Zanti slowly crawling up his arm, with the mounting music, and the sweating faces of the military guards listening in on the intercom while he pleads for help, powerless to help the man, is one of the most riveting scenes in this production, and still sends chills up my spine.
I bet they got a pentecostal to do the alien language. Cause the alien language is made up for the show just like pentecostals make up fake languages and call it tongues.
Aren't they just the cutest little things??????
