lets put this straight. jimmy buckley NEVER had a band called "nitefall"... sean and the lads gave the boy a break when he sang for them. NITEFALL WAS NOT BUCKLEYS BAND...as advertised on his site.
Could have been to hear Jimmy recently locally but wasn't really well at that time, would have loved to be there. Sorry Jimmy, I'll maybe catch you next time!
Beautiful...

WOW!!! Love the song, but never felt W Nelson, Elvis, even H Williams did it justice.

great vocal performance! if it weren't for the rather un-inspired backdrop i should like this version as much as willie's.

Rockinbillyboy you;re right on. Fred Rose it was, Fred Rose who wrote songs for Gene Autry and was many years with Chess Records in Chicago.
that company which recorded all those great songs by McKinley Morganfield,
aka Muddy Waters

Awesome rendition of a golden oldie. I was singing that before I ever knew who Willie was. Thanks for sharing.

Well done to you.

The composer and the only person that can sing this song properly is Willie Nelson. This guy tries to imitate and there is no originality.

i have news for you pardner, Willie is good, but Jimmy is better and you can take that from a born TEXAN.
lloyd1360 3 years ago 7
because clearly being born in texas makes your opinion on country music more valid than anyone else's

I don't agree.I find this version excellent. Can someone tell me who's the composer and original singer of this wonderful classic? TY very much.
mclenptp 4 years ago
The song was written in 1945 by Fred Rose and if I am not mistaken
was first recorded by the Carter Family.
I hope this helps, ..and i do agree,..it is a wonderful classic.
