I'm working on my sixth fictional Christian novel at the moment which promotes the Newsboys as a band in the story around a fictional teenage romance (God's version, of course) around the time of their first popular albums such as this one and Not Ashamed. I hope to carry the promotion of this band over my future novels. I would love to send a free copy of my sixth novel when it's released to one of the band members. Just need to work out how I'm going to do that. It's all positive.
The energy they had made the Newsboys a hit in the 90s. They're too conservative now, and that's why they're not as big a deal anymore. Hopefully John James will bring some of this back when he performs with the Newsboys soon.
I have not been able to get my hands on a copy of boyz will be boyz, and this clip is a MUST SEE!!!
Vernon Bishop & John James is Michael Jackson's match at dancing..ROFL!! The Newsboys need to bring back the coordinated dancing!! I'd give anything to see Jody, Jeff, and Mike dancing like that!!LOL
HAHA! I have this video, too! (Somewhere in storage) I also videotaped them back in 91 at a festival because my friend told me that I should because they will be big someday (boy, was she right on the mark!)...I miss all those guys, now Peter the original member is gone...waahhh :(
I met these guys around this time at a music festival. Worked for several days at the booth next to theirs, and had lots of fun! They were young and funny and full of mischief! Ratboy Pryor signed my shoe! :)
according to wiki, this video was released in 1991. The song is from thier "Boys will be boyz" CD. Night and day difference from this CD to the next as they released "Not Ashamed" in 1992 begining thier Christian music rise in popularity.
This was the Newsboys during their pre-Steve Taylor days. Lots of great songs to check out from their "Read All About It","Hell is for Wimps",and "Boys will be Boyz" CDs.
I love the Newsboys...one of the first groups I liked on my own (not my parents music). First concert I went to also...in a high school auditorium before Not Ashamed had even come out...good old days
I wouldn't say that it was weird as it was just plain fun! I have a very special memory of these guys dating back to the mid-90's when they were the headliners at a Christian music festival at Amana, IA. To make a long story short, I fell off a ramp face first as I was bringing equipment down (I was a volunteer stagehand). When i came back the next day after having stitches put in, I found out the Boys had been searching the hospitals for me because they wanted to see me. Been a fan ever since.
I love Peter - don't get me wrong but I LOVED the Newsboys when JJ was the lead and Peter was the drummer. I guess I'm just remembering "the good ol' days". I did meet Peter once very briefly and he was so kind - very sweet spirit.
Not that Peter isn't great but I wish John James would come back and front vocals or share lead vocals and just dance around crazy like he always did.
Thanks for the comment. currently John James is back in his hometown in Austrailia. He is working in ministry in his local church. There's a great article at crossrhythms about his fall and restoration. Google John James Newsboys and it should be one of the top results. God Bless
My God, that was awesome. I guess what goes around comes around. This would have been the dumbest thing in the world five years ago...and sure it is a bit cheesy, but music wise, I can't help but think that worship music is the worst thing to happen to Christian music as far as talent is concerned. You'll never hear a solo like that in a Chris Tomlin song. "It gets in the way of Jesus".
I have this video somewhere in storage. I also have boot legs of them up close at the XPLO Fest in Marion Illinois somewhere too ('91). That was the first time I heard them and I thought they were really awesome back then. I also have a bootleg of them at Cornerstone 94 or 95(?).
That was back in the day before digital video cameras. I lugged that big camcorder everywhere I went. Wish I could transfer them to my computer.
This was great! Does any1 have the studio vids 4 this and "Not Ashamed"? It's a real shame John James quit in '97. And what he said was true. Nowhere in the Bible does it say Christians can't have any fun, or as he put it, "sucking on lemons all day"!
Oh my gosh...this is hilarious! Thanks for posting this, 'cause I've always wanted to see the BWBB video. I found "Kingdom Man" to be unexpectedly likable for an old-school CCM song. I love all that bizarre dancing! Oh, and that part where Vernon was making all those bizarre noises in the bit of live footage was, well...interesting. Their live shows must have been so weird back then! Hehe.
Thank you for posting this , they are my favorite band. It is fun to see them so early in their career. By the way the name of the song is "Kingdom Man"
Thanks Dallas60! You are correct and I updated the song title. Since I promoted a concert with them back during this tour , you'd think I know that. he he.
Hi kshavo, I remember you. I was the one who inquired about the Leslie Phillips footage etc. the videos i posted are part of my collection. i would still like to trade. I need to work on that list!! he he he. thanks for the LP stuff you posted it was great. I've never seen her live as LP only as SP 2 years ago. she was great but i would love to see the songs i grew up with performed live from her b/w grey world and dancing with danger days. Ron

Peter Furler, the first drummer in Christian music with a rotating drum set. Only Tommy Lee of Motle Crue can say he did it first.

Whenn (approx) was this?
Looks familiar... like maybe I saw it on MTV (back when MTV played music videos).
Maybe you could add the timeframe that this was in to the description?

This takes me baaaaaack to my grade school days. I love this song even if the melody is directly from Sammy Hagar's Your Love is Driving Me Crazy.
