This artist was fantastic! There was no one like him. I'm lucky to have been best friends with him and able to have worked producing and singing with him. I miss my buddy.
I think Gene's 'No Other' is possibly the finest album ever made. And, I have loved it since way back in the day. I never ever saw this clip, and I have worked in TV archives all my life. What a find! Well done to the person who posted this! A truly fine performance from 1974, I suspect! Don Kirshner's In Concert?
What an incredible unique way with songs. Incredibly enough I'm only just discovering Clark's career in my 40s! He leaves the Henley and Frey in the dust.
amazing video, little by little there are apearing more things of Gene, this is great because it is a more natural version than in the album, but they are both astonishing
an absolute stunner album and an incredible talent ....so deep so far ahead of his time and it is proved by the best ( to my taste ) number the enigmatic " Strength of Strings "foreboding th all known stringtheory .of nowadays .....Michael did not get THAT far ....but also a great star ...
I interviewed Gene and Roger McGuinn when I worked for a paper. He was a very nice, honest, polite man. One of the most under-rated artists ever. Such a shame he didn't live long enough to see how many people respect his work and are now fans.
I recommend the expanded No Other CD. It also includes Gene's pared down demo of the album. I like it as much as the over the top released album. Anyway you cut it No Other is a classic.
No Other is one of the few cases where the over the top arrangements work. Sure the strip down demos are fine but for an acoustic album you should turn to White Light.
Sorry soulsaphire, I should've hit the thumbs up but looked at the video at the same time and hit the wrong hand! I totally agree with you. Is this from a concert you can find on dvd? Gene Clark wrote better songs than Dylan!
He didn't seem confident about hitting or holding the notes. I wonder why. There are other performances of this great song that cone across with alot more feeling.
Sorry, I guess we weren't watching the same performance. I only saw a matchless singer delivering a magical song supremely but without the requisite histrionics of the popular masses stereotype. No wonder you never Gene never attracted the Rod Steward/David Bowie etc fan base.
not sure for sure but I would say 1980 or so in that time frame. He looks very thin in this video. God bless his soul. He did Gypsy Rider which I feel is one of his top 3 tunes.
When this came on the San Francisco FM station in 1975, I flipped...it's classic Gene Clark, with one of his most dramatic melodies and fine lyrics--real poetry. I'm a musician and show this to other players, and they love it. I hope some day it comes into its own.
Unlike so many bands from the early 1960s the Byrds just get better and better with time. Their solo work is also fantastic. Clarks albums: No Other, White Light, Dillard and Clark, Two Sides to Every Story, are all great.
such a great album. Is there a better upload?

@hollies65 perhaps, but Chris Hillman's tremendous work over decades and genres is incredible in it's own right.

I still think Gene Clark is one of the best singer-songwriters that ever lived.
In my country (Belgium) he's totally unknown,
which is a shame.

You are so right. But Jacques Brel is pretty close along with Tim Hardin.
