I can top this i had a 1988 holden its Australias GM manufacture Holden VN Commodore, and had good tyres, only found out both wheels had fucked bearings, just the day before having new Shocks fitted, i was testing its speed, out on an open road, im so lucky, i have the mechanics check every time i oil change.
I seen one worse on a 1998 Ford Explorer 4x4,the owner claimed not to hear a noise coming out of the right front.I took the wheelbearing out in two pieces, nothing left of the wheel bearing which ruined the axle at the same time.Got lucky the spindle was not damaged at all.
had mine separate on me the other day while driving, thankfully the tire didnt come off. but i found the bearings in my yard after i had it towed back home
@daytonite122 instead of up and down, wiggle the tire side to side and have someone check tie rod endings for any play, if any, its bad and should be replaced a.s.a.p.
Both of my front wheel bearings went humming at more or less the same time on a front wheel drive. I rode the car until I realised that the wheels had a lot of free play. Then I tightened the center bolt and still used the car for some time. When reversing whilst turning, there was a terrible shearing sound. At high speeds it was almost impossible to hear what someone says. Eventually I took the car to a specialist shop who replaced both hubs with bearings. The cost was not so high.
i have a 2002 dodge startus r/t..anytime i drive on the freeway (60mph) i hear this weir noise on my left rear side..if i go faster or slower than that u cant hear anything..when i lifted up my car when i checked the tire movement u cant hardly move it, it sounds like something is loose but not that much..anybody??
@djbro16 If you watch you see the cv shaft moving about fairly freely. If it were the tie-rods this would not occur. Also if it were the ball joints this would not occur. The wheel bearing holds the cv shaft in place so obviously it has to have significant play in it.
looks perfect!! haha.. yeah imma GM tech.. i change them things on trucks with over sized tires all the time... they are very easy to change..since they are a sealed assembly. ive got 38's on my 1500... they are still holdin strong... 100000 miles lol

Tire rod... I think I need a few of those. Do they sell them next to the high speed muffler bearings and headlight fluid?

the main bolt can also be loose.... but its most likely the bearing.
Hatinonthehaters 1 year ago
@Hatinonthehaters if the bolt would be loose, the wheel would slide in to out not loose like that going in angles

If that's how you test the wheel bearing, how do you test the ball joints then?

@daytonite122 same way. you have to look for play in the ball joint though. If it isnt moving, then it's the wheel bearing.
michaelAurban 11 months ago
what bearing?

johnprice1000 1 year ago
My Ranger had that same problem. Turned out to be the lower ball joint.

how do you know it's not a tire rod?

tie rod moves from side to side play and hub bearings move up and down play like you see on the video

@djbro16 durr a bad tie rod would'nt have up and down play as shown in the video

@djbro16 because the tie rod isn't moving.
