When it says don't answer, it means don't argue on his terms. When it says answer, it means show him why his terms are wrong. It makes a lot more sense in the original Hebrew, and when you put it into context. Plus, this is hardly an argument for atheism. Even if it was a sound argument, it would only be against Biblical theism.

A legend is based of real events/people, but is not totally true. A myth may also be based of real events, but is less "literally" true than a legend.
The bible is a blur of, real events, legendary events and mythological events.
I'm not confident that the bible is any more "literally" true than the Illiad. It does contain "truthes" about the human condition, however. It does contain "truthes" about what ancient people thought. It does contain "truthes" about cultures, people and places.
But in total, the things in the bible, be they good or bad or myth, legend or truth, don't seem to me to be anything "out of the ordinary" for us humans. I don't see it as divine, just ... human.

For it's true beauty, power and worth are (hard to explain) sold cheap by those who actively promote it. (hard to explain my exact thoughts) I often see this work as being abused in a childish (overly literal) way by those who claim to respect it most. That's the sign of a pretty terribly written text. Compare this with the Gita or heck Buddhist texts and you'll quickly realize that the Bible has an absolutely terrible signal to noise ratio. -- Aesops fables are significantly better than anything there. Genuflecting to it as such is unneeded.

@Danmill23 I totally agree, I encourage any atheist to read the bible and study it for what it's worth. I believe that the bible should be the atheist's best friend. Even better than what Christians or any other religious belief hold accountable for. Without this knowledge of the bible an atheist can really sound ignorant and may even sound "i am mad at god, is why I am atheist" if they choose to debate. It's our secret weapon, well that and logic and reasoning and of course science.

Impressive answer. What I conclude is that if you don't answer a fool he will be wise in his own eyes. That means that it is not neccesarily true what the fool states. Everyone processes information in their own way. The form their own mindset around it and conclude in their way. I am very profoundly envolved with religion, and have been since my deconversion about a year ago. I get my vocabulary (I am flattered, by the way) from being in debate for 3 years, and from the many books I read. As for what I believe in, in the sense of religious belief, perhaps nothing. My only "faith" would be that humankind will dig its way out of the holes it gets into in the future and in the present. I am an atheist and don't believe in a God or Gods.

I have watched 4 videos that prove Atheism is correct. All 4 took different approaches and still worked. Shock then simplistically stated "but where is the proof?". The search for truth is OUT THERE, you won't find it in the mind of a man unless he truly believes he knows what it all is. For it's true beauty, power and worth are (hard to explain) sold cheap by those who actively promote it. (hard to explain my exact thoughts) I often see this work as being abused in a childish (overly literal) way by those who claim to respect it most. A bland literal view (held by many) degrades it to a fairy story. Thanks for the comment.

I've read good books. The Bible isn't one of them. Anybody with a remotely skill at editing could significantly improve the Bible. @Danmill23 The age depends a bit on when you start counting. But, 4k is way high. The problem is that it's mostly boring bits. You could cut out 2/3rds of the material and lose nothing of content. That's the sign of a pretty terribly written text. Compare this with the Gita or heck Buddhist texts and you'll quickly realize that the Bible has an absolutely terrible signal to noise ratio. -- Aesops fables are significantly better than anything there. Genuflecting to it as such is unneeded.

@Danmill23 I totally agree, I encourage any atheist to read the bible and study it for what it's worth. I believe that the bible should be the atheist's best friend. Even better than what Christians or any other religious belief hold accountable for. Without this knowledge of the bible an atheist can really sound ignorant and may even sound "i am mad at god, is why I am atheist" if they choose to debate. It's our secret weapon, well that and logic and reasoning and of course science.

Impressive answer. What I conclude is that if you don't answer a fool he will be wise in his own eyes. That means that it is not neccesarily true what the fool states. Everyone processes information in their own way. The form their own mindset around it and conclude in their way. I do not think Shockofgod will concur with any answer provided by an atheist because he is wise in his own eyes.

Obviously he is too blinkered to be convinced (too blinkered to think...)

This is excellent. The only downside is that Shock would not realize how it is addressing his question directly, and it would need to be unpacked for him. At the same time, he would recognize that you are calling him a fool, and any patience he provided for this concise response will have gone before you can do so. Essentially, he would say "madness" a bunch of times until the answer went away.
Though, perhaps a listener would take the time to think it over.

They had a lot of time to edit the stuff they wanted in there, Buddha, Mohammed, Joseph Smith did their work in a much shorter time and with less help.

I am very profoundly envolved with religion, and have been since my deconversion about a year ago. I get my vocabulary (I am flattered, by the way) from being in debate for 3 years, and from the many books I read. As for what I believe in, in the sense of religious belief, perhaps nothing. My only "faith" would be that humankind will dig its way out of the holes it gets into in the future and in the present. I am an atheist and don't believe in a God or Gods.

I have watched 4 videos that prove Atheism is correct. All 4 took different approaches and still worked. Shock then simplistically stated "but where is the proof?". He doesn't quite comprehend how his own fucking inquiry works. Proving Atheism is correct pertains to DISPROVING Creationism, but when you hypothetically acknowledge the existence of a God, so to answer his inquiry, he decree's that it doesn't count as you said there was a God, henceforth proving HIM right. The man is a moron.

I think that the fool in his folly, in this case, will think that you've just proved the Bible 100% correct by using the Bible as a source of wisdom in this one case (thus the fool is wise in his own eyes by accepting the Bible 100% true in all cases). Obviously, one case of the Bible being true does not mean that a Space-Jew zombie exists, but, for the fool, it does. In other words, I think that Shockofgod is going to miss your point if that is who you are trying to communicate with.
