This movie has helped me to realize what kind of a leader I want to be. I have learned that although one might be taught to fight and die for a cause, perhaps their may be other alternatives, even in the most dire of situations. I will do everything in my power to protect my soldiers, but I will also look towards finding solutions without violence. I hope by just having this new mindset, I can actually make a difference someday.

@P27Barreta To fight and die for a cause that is WORTH fighting and dying for is the objective, IMO there hasn't been one since World War II. I hope you have the knowledge, training and ability to see thru any more political lies that start wars and just say no. You will be honored by us that do. In the mean time, do your job, do it well and keep yourself and those looking up to you safe.

Finally, a good, modern made, war movie>>>>I was looking for one (I was in the mood). But all I could find in "YouTube war movies" were low budget films made in the 12th century......
This is a great movie! My Mom was very sick for 8 years, in and out of the hospital, but one day she was feeling good and she shocked me and sat down to watch a movie with me; it was this one. I asked her if she wanted to watch another movie, but she said 'no', she wanted to watch this one with me. We watched this move and at the end, she turned to me and with tears in her eyes, she said, "This was a great movie!" My Mom is gone now; "I love you Mom" and this is a great movie!
Remember when "Obamass" said he'd "end the wars"......
just another puppet MFr pretending to be the CEO of the U.S. CORPORATION....that is not America, we the people, or Constitutional anything.
"War is a racket"...USMC GEN SMEDLEY. BUTLER. If you look into Gen Butler you will find he exposed an attempted coup on America, in Congressional hearings, by globalist crony corps owners that appear to have hijacked it today.
....and don't think for a second that it isn't global already.
I found the whole thing rather disappointing (saw it when it first came out), albeit fairly well-made. Yes, war sucks, but so does living under tyranny and genocide.
Its an alright movie. But the dogtag in the mouth thing is COMPLETELY historically false. I was so mad when I saw that. Grrrr. The little indent on the tag had NOTHING to do with putting it between the teeth. It happened in the machining process.
I am commenting again, because this movie is great.Yes, the insanity of wars makes us all to stay paralysed and helpless .Very powerful film. I´m still thinking of it and analysing every little detail.
Thousend Thanks for uploading it and warm greetings from Germany.
Another indicator is the way they go to great lengths to look after Father's body. Then they get it to the grave registrar for whom it is just another body to process. He casually, even brutally, closes the jaws with a blow from a hammer or wrench. The group's finer feelings get defeated all down the line. Their only victory is that some of them survive.
As Clausewitz said, you can try to plan for war but you can't plan for its contingencies. In other words, it quickly develops dynamics that are unpredictable and the reality of war is that it will always be a mess.
At the start of the film it is pointed out that most of the squad soldiers try to avoid profanity because it is too typical of the army. But Lieutenant Ware's final remarks about "pushing those f***ing Kraut bastards back" also suggests that their battle against bad language has been lost.
I read the novel as well as watched this film. The point seemed to be that even highly intelligent soldiers like these were unable to make much headway in mitigating the insanity of war.
is this a true story???

@rebelgirls5011 Yes this was based on a true story but was billed as a novel because the author wanted to protect the guilty.

@Barismw2 Standard procedure, at least back then as I've been told, to insure the ID of the body especially if there was a disfiguring injury.

@TheInfidelis I agree. Too much Hallelujah towards the end. Too many conventional things. But the good part impressed.
