  • Rats like soy milk and it is actually good for them.

  • @Digitaldivaster Thanks, that's great news! We like it too so I'll get some tomorrow, it'll give them something else to drink. They're so spoiled but love them so much it's worth it.

  • Rats are lactose intolerant so this means that their body cannot absorb milk into their system, it can make them very ill if your not careful. They can end up with bad stomachs. Please don't feed them anything dairy.

  • @MarcusGlent Thanks for your advice, as it happens, I'm lactose intolerant as well so the milk Button is drinking is lactose free skim milk. I didn't expect her to be so interested in leftover milk!

  • The funny thing is that when you give food to rats through the bars of a cage, sometimes they'll try to grab it, but it's awkward and they just end up batting the food out of your fingers. :) Nice try

  • @GiantPetRat They are so gentle and sweet that I can't tease them at all, I always feed them through the open door. They're even smart enough to know that if one gets something from me the other will come for it's serving rather than fight for its share of the piece I just gave the other, so smart and too cute!

  • Awww!

  • @PeaInAPod8 Now our rat "Rainbow" will grab your clothes if you get close enough and try to bring you into the cage to play and to be near you, as you walk around she'll jump from one corner to the other and hang on with all four paws with an irresistibly cute look which says "play with me!"

  • Button was using the hands

  • @RANDYRodentFanClub What was really neat was how she would keep switching hands, I wonder if it's because it's tiring for her, if it's a preference or something else?

  • I have had alot of rats, and for some reason the female black rats like to be girly and prissy like this lol. My boys would just dive head first into the milk, but one black female rat in particular didnt like to get dirty, so she would eat stuff like this, all prissy and licking it off her hand.

  • @JesterEve This is what I've been told, the females are supposedly cleaner and more gentle but I've never had a male so I don't know their nature. It's very cute how the females are so girly though, they're so much fun to play with and they love playing!

  • My rat Soybean looks exactly like yours:)

  • @cuddleb0t There are many rats that look like this, they seem to be the most playful! Love the name Soybean.

  • @vanwicz Thanks:) Mines actually the shyest rat I've ever owned!

  • @cuddleb0t Just curious, shy as in won't come to you easily or just not very playful?

  • @vanwicz Shes playful... She'll run around in the exercise wheel and play with my other rats. But the second I try to hold her or pet her she'll dart away or refuse to be held. >.> I'm just giving it time, had her for about 3 months or so. My other rats, even the new one I just got yesterday all let me hold them.

  • Don't rats pee all ove the place?

  • @catawba909 I think this is another benefit to getting them when they're babies, they learn to do their business in their cage and then when they can run around freely, they go back to their cage to pee and poo. There are accidents once in a while but that's more the exception.

  • leek leek leeeeeek :P

  • @kileykat Are you afraid of rats or do you find this very funny :)

  • Wow, this is adorable :) I love rats! Great video -- thanks for sharing

  • @peepchick101 Thanks, I'd love to get a video of our rat Lucy hanging from the ceiling of the cage and swinging along! They are so playful it's incredible!

  • Assomiglia tantissimo al mio primo topolino :')

  • @ma4ily Molti di loro hanno colori simili, sembrano essere i più giocoso!

  • @vanwicz when you u you sai " oh it was just the door " and your rat got spooked , its funny when the do that that , mine lawyas does that when im feeding her sumthing

  • @TheBape1day It seems that no matter how "tame" they are, their instinct still takes over when something comes across as a threat, but at least this one didn't run away and go back into it's cage like many do!

  • @vanwicz milk is bad for rats!!!

  • @KriegsherrKaos Yes I've heard this, but if it's any consolation this was lactose free skim milk and we don't feed the rats milk on a regular basis, this was the exception. Thanks for your concern!

  • @vanwicz E i più teneri **

  • @ma4ily sì molto!

  • A lot of rats would rather grab with their paws than with their mouth- however, this tends to have a counterproductive effect when they try and snatch things through the bars of a cage, usually batting the piece of food to the ground. :)

  • @GiantPetRat I guess this is partly why we were told never to feed them through the bars of the cage? Apparently this also helps prevent them from biting our fingers since they get to know that we never have food in our fingers unless it's through the cage door opening. It is entertaining enough to watch them balance while they hold something they're eating!

  • That's nothing, my rat came when I called it's name, and would follow me around the house..

  • @Gargoylezbreath This is what is so special about rats, they really love attention! Often on weekend mornings our rat Button would squeeze under the bedroom door, jump onto the bed and wake me up so she could play, of course I woke up and played with her, it seems as though she really looked forward to the weekends since it was only then that she would do this.

  • Actually if you look at the way the rat is built the only way it can get a drink here is by hand. The mouth is way back under the nose so the rat would have to stick its nose under the liquid to drink directly into its mouth. Only if it could approach at the same level as the liquid (as opposed from above) could it avoid using its hands.

  • @chanctonbury63 That's true although when they're given a bowl of water in their cage, they will lap it up with their tongue. They don't seem to do this with other liquids, just my observation but I wonder if they make an exception for water?

  • I live in the country and we kill rats by the score to preserve stored grain and to keep down disease, but I have the utmost admiration for rats, the most successful mammal on the planet. They are very intelligent, tough as nails and they breed like a machine gun. They are much more than a `pest`. They really are a biologically superb little creature.

  • @chanctonbury63 I agree with you completely! Their only biological drawback is the relatively short lifespan, even though it's longer than the wild variety, it's still a shame they don't live longer.

  • yep! They have an opposable digit too. Not quite a thumb yet.

  • @robin56 True! They are very dexterous, part of their great charm! One of our rats actually climbs across the ceiling of the cage like some sort of acrobat, just hanging from its front paws, it's hilarious!

  • my rat shit everywhere!!!!

  • @MsThugnigga That happens more often if you get an older rat that wasn't raised in a cage. We get ours as babies, then keep them in the cage until they're adults letting them out to play for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. They get into the habit of doing their business in one corner. Once we give them more freedom around the house they come back to the cage to do their business in the same corner. There are times where they will go elsewhere but that's more the exception than the rule.

  • they dont bite?

  • @naiad90 No, they don't bite. They say that if you find a rat that bites, it means there's something with it. They will nibble or lick you if you have food on your fingers for example.

  • oh my goodness! toooo cute! My rattie Pepe looks identical to Button and he does the exact same thing with yogurt...it's like he doesnt know what to do with it haha...love it

  • @MarissaC512 They are sooo cute, we've noticed that these like colored rats seem to love human contact and are extremely playful, just our experience so far, our white rat is always afraid of us and gets into mischief whenever it can.

  • Did you get your rat(s) from a pet shop or breeder?

  • @o0SavingGrace0o We had shopped around quite a lot, rat rescues, spca, private ads and pet stores and finally found a pet store owner who was very proud and took very good care not to over breed and only sold healthy active rats as pets. The store was 45 minutes away but we thought it would be better to have a clear conscience about where and how the rats were bread.

  • @vanwicz Ah, okay! Thank you. (:

  • ...This is so cute, but WTF?

There's an ad for CAT FOOD! O-o

  • @TheBKKit Don't worry, we're not feeding them cat food, lol! That's the beauty of rats, they're clean, they like to play and they eat almost everything we do, healthy, inexpensive and easy.

  • @vanwicz I'm more worried about what the cat food is MADE of... XDDD

  • @TheBKKit Hummm that's a good question, another good reason to feed them what we eat.

  • I've seen my two drink water this way. I've also seen one of mine seeming to use a chunk of sawdust shaving to soak up water, then lick the dampened shaving.

  • @MrDeegee1969 What a blast! Seems like there's something in that wood shaving which dissolves and adds a flavoring to the water, like making tea.

  • How do i convince my mom to let me get a rat? and whats nontoxic and toxic for them to eat? i wanna know incase i get one...

  • @Sparklykitten135 Do all the research first, put together a booklet of sorts outlining the pros and cons (not many cons as far a I'm concerned). The big plus for me is that they don't bite unlike other rodents, nibbling your finger tips if they think you're feeding them. They're quite clean, females more than males but overall they like to keep clean. You can train them to do their business in one spot at least most of the time and they eat our food with exceptions you should research.

  • @vanwicz thanks so much! :D ill try doing this stuff... but right now i have hamsters and my mom says i have enough petes :(

  • @Sparklykitten135 After the hamsters, rats would be a great choice since they are so much easier to care for and they won't run away from you (assuming you've done nothing for them to be afraid of). They like to play with you and even have a little giggle when you tickle them, we found this comes when they're a bit older.

  • from the same bowl gross!

  • @taylorsarahh I guess it's obvious but I was finished with the bowl and it went into the dishwasher once the rat was finished.

  • Sooo cute.

    Hdjsfsdf.

    Looks like my babygirlypants Ninja!

  • @XxMeepNucleerxX Do you have a picture? They are so cute and so playful!

  • but will it blend?

  • @segapaisa Hadn't tried plugging it in :)

  • this rat is cute as shit

  • @spacew0lf10 You're telling me! The cutest was after her sister passed away we gave her the run of the house and it was much like having a dog but without having to take it for walks - it went back to its cage to eat and do its business. Saturday mornings when she was let out of the cage it would run to my bedroom's closed door, squeeze underneath and jump on my bed to play!

  • @vanwicz Im might get a rat whats needed to care for it?

  • @ridely700 It's a good idea to get two females or two males but we've always had females. This way they can keep each other company, this is important because they are very social animals. We use old towels on the cage bottom and throw it in the wash every couple of days, this is much easier and cheaper than the litter they sell. They eat almost everything we eat but you should look up what they shouldn't eat, like chocolate, blue cheese, licorice, rhubarb etc.

  • one of my rats does that with her paw, and it just about kills me everytime. It's just too cute

  • @Sweden8990 I love when they go in my collar and crawl through and come out my sleeve or the reverse!

  • uhm wats in the milk

  • @MairacleMaker10 The trailings of bran cereal and some muesli was in the milk but the rat wasn't interested in.

  • I wonder if you can teach it to use a little bitty spoon gahhhh that would be adorable <3

  • @MsChingola you are so right! I love rats!

  • Rat intelligence - ITS OVER 9000!!!!

  • I always say rats are "human" - just look at their beautiful little "hands" - they scoop up water to wash their faces, and scoop up milk or water to drink. No dog or cat can do that! I had one rat who picks out all the nuts in his muesli bowl and arrange them all in a perfect little row. Rats are intelligent, clever, mishevious, adorable - magnificent traits all rolled into one amazing personality. RATS ROCK !!!

  • @MsChingola That must be a riot, I'll have to try a bowl of muesli and see what they do with it! I love that rats are clean and not afraid of us.

  • One of thease rats came into my shed : ( i think one of my neighbor let a lot of them go and now there every were!!! Or can plain rats look like this????

I dont want to kill it but they have kiled my baby rabbits before!!! so i have no choice.

  • @1Countrygal97 Yes, they multiply like rabbits but as sad as it is to have to kill them sometimes there's no choice to control the vermin in the neighborhood. I would suggest calling the local animal humane society or animal rescue to see if they're interested in setting traps to catch them alive and redistribute to new owners.

  • @vanwicz Ok thanks so much ill try that. : )

  • Rats do so many things with their hands, they are quite dextrous :) My favorite thing is when they grab my fingers so I can't get away :3

  • Don't insult Rats. This is just survival and common sense. If you see a guy go outside in 30 degree weather and then he puts his jacket on, would you call him intelligent? That's just survival and common sense to me.

  • @TheNycRatKing No insults here! Using their paws to bring up the milk is intelligent, as far as I know, other rodents don't do it. By the way, if you've ever been to africa, you'll see most people wearing wool tuques, sweaters to keep the sun off them and the heat out in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees, yes, that's intelligent!

  • cute :)

  • that is so cute. when I drank milk I would share it with my cat here and there. she would just shove her head down into the glass and when it was too low for her face to reach, she would put her paw in there and scoop the milk up into her mouth!

  • sooo cuuute she looks like my Rocky who died a few months ago...she used to "drink" apple juice just like this

    Rats are great pets

  • The milk is bad for the rats.

  • @CodeOrDie A bit of milk isn't going to hurt a rat.

  • Her sister had a solid light brown colour but was much weaker and passed away early. Although she wasn't very strong, she was a sweetheart whereas the sister shown here had a strong personality but still very charming!

  • same exact markings as one of my girls! the perfect stripe with a spot to the side.

  • wayy too cute!

  • And to think people hate them ! Best pets anyone could have i say :)

  • It is basically the same thing as a squirrel, but without a bushy tail

  • Indeed they are part of the rodent family too! Squirrels however, aren't tameable but probably just as intelligent. Best pet we've ever had and much less work than a dog.

  • @vanwicz correction, squirrels are tameable as I found out, although it seems only if your are their caregiver from birth.

  • @vanwicz with all due respect squirrels are quite tameable! Had two pet squirrels are they were a ton of fun;) very much like my rat, clever as well

  • i have 3 male rats, and i absolutely love them! it all started with the mouse i caught lol now i have rats. my rat zues is

playing with me right now on the left side of my keyboard

  • Thanks. It's interesting to see animal intelligence at work!
