Nice job! It sounds like you guys had fun playing this piece The community college band I'm playing with (flute) is also playing this, which is a lot of fun. However, we're playing the Hindsley arrangement. I hope that the musicians in this ensemble enjoy making music together as much as I do. To me, music is one of the greatest joys in life. Keep up the good work!
omfg, my school just played this for the winter concert. i play tenor sax. i had the awesome low part with the cool rythms, with the low brass. this was my fave peice to play ^-^
We played this song my sophmore year...I thought I was going to die..Haha. But in the end, I made it...and it was truely amazing...I cried so hard after this concert!! Plus, playing in a full orchestra with band was amazing...anyone who can play this song correctly should have major Kudos!!
Yes, we are also playing this in our school band. Unfortunately, we have to march it, but the one we play is arranged by John Higgins, so it is much shorter and quite different. But it still retains the memorable parts, like the low brass in the beginning.
The brass section is sloppy on the entrances and the dynamics are lacking heavily in this song. However, the wood wind section is surprisingly strong in this group while the response of the brass section slows their rhythm slightly, thus slowing the momentum of the band. Overall an okay production. I recall playing this in wind ensemble in high school, very difficult piece, I can't imagine trying to perfect it in a college schedule. Keep it up :)
congrats then :]. the comment was acutally directed to the person above me who said "i can't imagine trying to perfect it in a college schedule". but good job
If you are not in orchestra then you have no idea how hard it can be to sight read a piece if you aren;t well trained at sight reading and even if you are it can still be very hard
the clarinet and flute solos at the end are heavenly... i remember i heard my friend play the clarinet solo when our band played this song last year. i almost cried! haha
the pipes towards the end always give me goosebumps, brilliant piece, brilliantly played! bravo :)

a college wind ensemble should be able to sight read this nearly perfectly
Marcu5r0xs0x 4 years ago 2
I'll take that as a compliment since we are a community group with barely 2 hours rehearsal time per week!
