my late grandma used to be able to play this in her prime. she played accordion when her mom passed at a young age so she could pay the bills and raise her siblings. Rest in peace Nani
Myron played another version of Tico Tico when the arrangement was a little different and he was wearing a bright colored flamingo style shirt. Seems like they pulled it. Can somebody repost it. This one is great, but the other one was a little bit different and I was hoping to see it again. Thanks
He is from Lily South Dakota. Saw him when he came back to Lily for a holiday concert. Very talented guy. My grandparents and mom knew his family from the Lily/Conde/Bristol area of NE South Dakota. And Lawrence Welk grew up on a farm near Strasburg North Dakota, not far from my home town. My folks went to Lawrence Welk Band dances in their younger days. He had a show on WNAX Radio, Yankton South Dakota.
There was another version of TICO TICO where Myron was wearing a brightly colored shirt. It was a different arrangement with an intro from the band, and from a much newer time period. They pulled it recently. Does anyone know where I can locate it . CAHDBIKER
Old reruns can usually be seen on your local PBS channel. In Phoenix, they are on KEDU-TV (Channel 8) at 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, which is the old time slot.
I got to meet Myron in Seminole, Florida when he preformed at a church. I was around 13 at the time and was working on Clarinet Polka. He came out into the parkenlot and I played my accordion for him. I still play today at 33 and will always remember getting to play for my accordion Hero!
@Sonic149 That's a great story.. Myron Floren is one of my favorite musician of all time.. I put him up there with Sir Paul McCartney ... So cool you got to meet him... Two thumbs waaay up :-) LM
i LOVE this video, but seeing as Myron was on the welk show for about 7 years at this time it prolly was not his first solo... there are earlier videos of him on youtube from 51
I remember I wen't with my brother and my friend wanye wen't to a Organ lecture at a Rogers dealership and at the begining of the 2nd half, a former student of Virgel Fox played it on one of the organs.
Rare to hear anyone (apart from guest performers) refer to Welk as "Lawrence" that early on in the program's run. They tended to call him "Mr. Welk" on camera, until Sally Flynn, in the late '60's, would warmly greet him, onstage or off, "Lawrence, how ARE you?". Ken Delo said, "Sally warmed him up...it was always 'Lawrence' after that."
Loved the clip! That is during the first year of the show's nationwide run.
I wish they made accordion hero. I would have learned this song by now then : (
