  • @4:27 he came out.lol

  • R I P LUTHER

  • Luther was just damn too fine in this vid!

  • Luth can sing any song. Gone way too soon!!!

  • anthony hamilton sings it better than all...

  • Love you Luther - but you lost me after that first note... I'll take Sam, Otis, or Al for this one.

  • all i can say is wow his the man so luv him and miss him

  • I love gospel+blues, Luther rox this

  • SAM COOKE sings this the best hands down !

  • I've loved Luther's music for years (well around 25 tbh), and will continue to do so until the day I die!!! Whether you liked his music or not, you simply cannot deny his brilliant talent...

  • Awesome!!!

  • I thank God That he blessed us with all those who love him and share what he blessed them with thank you lord for this song and your child Mr. Luther Vandross

  • luther is on a whole other LEVEL... what more can you say...

  • What kind of person dislikes a Luther Vandross video?????

  • All I can say is WOW!!!, this is the first time I heard or saw this and I think it's off the CHAIN. the person who said he Lutherized is So right on, I totally LOVED IT thanks for posting it, It's still hurts that he's gone. He truly was one of the greates singers of this time.

  • What a voice he had

  • Luther can sing and two of his session singer could too, Mr. Phil Blou and Kevin Owens. Those three brothers together, they made music. I mean real mucic.

    PS: Solomon or Sheba.

  • WHATEVER Luther Vandross did for love ... he sang beautifully of it. Please ... may his memory always be for a blessing. May he rest in peace.

  • Excelente!!

  • What a set of pipes! God bless Luther.

  • Hold on. Let's get something straight. Whether Luther is gay.. made a gay face.. is or is not the original singer ... is TOTALLY IMMATERIAL !!! If Sam or Otis could rise from the dead, they'd both be on their feet cheering Luther's performance. There is NOTHING that Luther has ever sung that he hasn't totally made his own. You have to be deaf and dumb not to acknowledge that. The man slays anything he sings, whether it's an original or a cover.. and he "Lutherizes" it. Few can hang with him.

  • @megavega4 AMEN!

  • I watched this program back then. Loved it. Still love this now.

  • check out Solo

  • A gay WHITE man that also slays this song is Adam Lambert! He sings it for the oppressed gay people. Look up the live version of it on Season 8, American Idol. He NAILS IT! A great song is a great song and when sung by a great singer..they should ALL be appreciated as unique! Love Cooke, Luther, Smokey, Withers, Wilson etc..but also LOVE me some Adam Lambert.NOH8! :D <333

  • Everyone who sings this, that isn't Sam Cook of course, just doesn't sound right. They don't have that unique voice. Original will always win.

  • you sing this shit real good!!

  • All of you are definitely wrong!!! As always luther vandross to do his thing. I love it. Luther version of this song is the best buy anyone

  • No one will ever out sing Sam Cooke on this song or any other-with all due respect to all the great singers that have tackled this great song. Sam was the best singer that ever lived.

  • I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I still think that David Brown's AI Season 4 audition is one of the best I have ever heard of this song.

  • I don't care about his personal life, I just know nobody can interpret/deliver a song better than this guy.

  • sing it boy, yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhah

  • Luther sounds so beautiful!

  • Wow this made me reeeeeally miss Luther!

  • ben sounders

  • @dennie2462 wtf ben sounders? hahaha

  • check out terrence trent darby.

  • HOW ARE THERE EVEN 6 DISLIKES!!!!!!??????

  • @SuperUndying No kidding! How do you possibly dislike this? You have no soul?

  • i miss u so so much luther, i love u

  • He was the best performance I've known and seen. There will never be another voice like Mr Luther Vandross. Rest in peace my brother.

  • Damn, we miss you brother. Your music is on another level still.....

  • Love it.

  • rest peacefully mr. vandross. heaven needs it's soul music, too

  • A matchless voice !! I miss him ! R&B at it's best !!!

  • Luther Vandross, another classic underrated talent.

  • This is Sam Cooke's song and he said out of his own mouth that Otis Redding's version is the best version of it he's ever heard. I love Sam's version but I'd agree with him. Otis' version just has soooo much feeling and pain in it. Hands down the best.

  • @cvmIII This is True*****Otis Redding's version and Ms Aretha Franklin's version is the best I have heard***

  • @cvmIII RUBBISH ! Otis Redding, R.kelly , Arethre Franklin, Billy Preston, Seal, and the list goes on, don't even come close to singing this song like Sam Cooke. Get outta here with that lol

  • Comment removed

  • Okay, I had to listen to again, just for your sake. I'm sorry, I'm not feeling it. Not Luther's best and I love Luther to death. I was not feeling the soul. His diction was too correct, the extra lyrics added nothing to it, I've heard him sing better and I've heard this song better sung as well.

  • @cvmIII It is Sam Cooke's song. That being said. I had not heard it by Otis Redding's version, which I really liked, agree he does put so much passion and pain in his version. But I would be remiss if I didn;t say In my opion Luther Vandross OWNS this song when he sings it'

  • @cvmIII wrong who ever made the song up gets the credit not Otis WTF

  • The Best ever, always got my concert money....Love You and Miss you Luther

  • One of the best live performers - ever. Thank you, for posting.

  • Love Love Love Luther....but the ABSOLUTE BEST version of this song EVER was Adam Lambert's interpretation on Idol!! Go Listen!

  • WAY to flashy, NOT enough soul. Sam Cooke Had Soul for this song, not LVD

  • THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!

  • This dude is entertaining can't feel the meaning before the song...theres no soul there...

  • Not real soul - Sam Cooke and Maverick Sabre are the best to ever sing this!

  • lol luther be makin be laugh, he sangs too good. u ever seen somebody sang so good u stop watchin porn to hear him?? what is the world coming to?

  • @101freestyleking BAHAHAHAHA!!!! GOT DAM stop watching porn....it takes a powerful voice to make a man pause porn and be like damn... .... this nigga can sang.... lol

  • Possibly my all-time favourite Luther performance. We miss you, man!

  • Sang well, Cooke is better. Cooke had old true soul, this is just entertainment, not real soul.

  • THIS is what u call legend

  • They dont make em like that anymore. p.s. those are some white ass teeth, i love it.

  • This is right up there with marvin gayes national anthem, micheal jacksons superbowl performance, ali deafeat of foreman, enjoy people, becuz you will never see these types of performances ever again, thats real talk.

  • This is true romance.... I fell deeper and deeper in love with every run every rip and every chord. Rest Well Darling... you are so very missed

  • A "CHANGE DID COME' TOOOO SOON FOR HIM. MAY GOD BLESS HIM FOR ALL THE HAPPINESS HE BROUGHT IN OTHERS LIVES!!!

  • @doubledeck01 Over 40 years ago now, but I still haven't gotten over it!!

  • wow wow and more wow, sexy man, sexy voice just sext defined god bless LV

  • @silverchris9 Fuck You and your Homophobic comments PUNK.

Look at Yo Face at 1-48 and see what U get.

Gay people are the gifted ones in this world.

If this world was full of Ass Hole people like U, we would all be Doomed.

  • @silverchris9 His facial expression was gay?? What the hell, dude?? he made a face so it meant he had sugar uhhhh okay. I'mma need u take some gender studies courses and see if it doesn't help bring u to average intelligence.

  • Comment removed

  • @silverchris9 For someone who points to gender studies I am frightened by your level of IMMATURITY. Whether or not his facial expressions denotes 'femininity', that in NO WAY takes from his brilliance. An educated person in the field of gender studies would be too aware to find 1:48 comical. You are simply someone who is YET to understand the complexity of Human Beings. I am certain you don't find women with masculine characteristics comical...Such hypocrisy!

  • OMG!!! I Miss Luther. He sang the hell out of this song! God, I miss his music. God I miss his voice. God I miss how he can take a song and make it his own! Rest in peace, my brother.

  • 2 peoplee are racist why would you dislike this...when i hear this song i cry and when i sing it i feel like im in my own world singing is my passion and playing football i really love this song im going to put up my videos soon idk when thoo

  • @loverboy347247 u don't need to pull out the race card just because happened to dislike a video. so pathetic of you, no matter what race you are, seriously, pathetic. people have diff tastes of music.

  • @loverboy347247 The two killjoys who dislike this classic can take a running jump into a lake without name and never return. It will make the world a better place for the rest of humanity.

  • RIP LUTHER VANDROSS

  • this video and complete program is owned by Ken Ehrlich Productions. Inc

  • this video and the contents to the rest of this program is owned by Ken Ehrlich Porductions, Inc.

  • Sam's version is heart wrenching. As far as all-time great singers...darn you'd really have to flip a coin between Sam and Luther. It would come down to personal likes. I'm a bit impartial to Sam, but Luther was right there. Also, remember Sam was only in his mid 30's when he passed, so Luther has a bit of experience PLUS he had Sam to learn from as far as vocals, pitch, and style. But again, it's a toss up. They are definately 1-2 without a close 3rd. You can pick Marvin, G. Austin too,

  • @mreman2 Agree with your criticism. Sam made it powerful and spiritual all the way up to the heavens, but Luther just made the song sound "pretty." eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhueeeeehhhhhhhhyeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, mmammamamammamamammamamammamammamamammamammamamammamamamam....

  • THUMBS Up If You Love LUTHER !

  • In my mind, THE SINGLE MOST TALENTED MALE SINGER EVER! EVER! EVER!

  • ThIs Is FaNtAsT!c !!!

    So DeLiCiOuS !!

  • i got the chills at 1:10

  • IVE NEVA KNOWN OF ANY1 ELSE 2 SING THIS BETTA THAN SAM&LUTHER R.I.P. 2 BOTH OF THEM!!!

  • Mr. Sam Cooke would have been exceptionally proud of this performance.........I truly believe that in my heart. Talent RECOGNIZES....and appreciates other talent. It's been 5 years now since Luther left this world to reside with the Heavenly Father, and I've accepted the fact that we may NEVER witness another talent like his again. I don't think there's any point in even looking.

  • I cried when I saw this song performed on tv back in the day. I cried when I saw it today. Luthe singing Sam. DAMN!!!

  • Oh HELL YEAH better than Adam Lambert.

  • It ain't nuttin' but real soul music..!

  • Luther is one of a kind. There is no one like him.

  • Simply put the greatest baritone EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sam, Jackie, Marvin, and Luther...

  • Heavenly!

  • Apologies to Sam Cooke. This is my favorite version of a great song!

  • It simply doesn´t get BETTER!! Other versions are good, but Luther takes it to another level. Can you imagine him and Sam together?

  • A PERFORMANCE OF A LIFE (THERE IS NO ONE BETTER) WE LOST A GREAT ONE...LOVE YOU BRO FOEVER YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN

  • When you really listen to this master at work you remember just how incredible he was. Thankyou for this!

  • mr vandross a change gonna come

  • Luther is dynamite!

  • This was one very memorable and moving performance. God Bless him......Luther!

  • This came from a Gospel Concert that was originally shown on cable back in the 80's. It also featured Jennifer Holiday, Andre Crouch, Paul Simon 1987 TV Special from the first Presbyterian Hollywood Church. I wish I could find the complete recording again...It was absolutely fantastic!!!

  • The best at his best!!!

  • Simplesmente o Melhor!!!!!!!!!!! Salve Luther Vandrosssss

welcome all fans, vandross is fantastic.

  • @johnmcgrath6827a This is the MOST INCREDIBLE version of this song I've ever heard, and I am a Sam Cooke fan from WAY BACK.

  • @sazzyblu This was good, but in my opinion, noone comes close to Sam Cookes version. Have you heard Deitrick Haddon,s versioon? His is good too, but to me Sam is tops!! God bless.

  • i cant believe i havent seen this, oh my god this is fantastic!!!!!, what a post! thank you so much, downloaded forever!!

  • What a beautiful performance - a master at work ! RIP LVD x

  • This is good but I like Seal's take on this song better

  • @19moodytl69 I have to disagree with you on this one. Sam made this song great, and I applaud all the others who has honored him with their version. Sam made history with this song not Luther. Whenever someone get honorary mention for this song ,it wont be Luther or any other artist . I t will be Sam COOKE. God bless.

  • @gospelx2 Luther killed it! But, I agree with you...Sam's verision is searing!!! It rips apart your soul.
