Just curious if anyone knows why Saturn was worshipped at the time of the winter solstice by various ancient peoples? As a Christian, I don't really think having a Christmas tree in our home has anything to do with this. We know what Christmas is....and we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Our tree is not worshipped, not used as a ritual, not looked upon as anything but what it is....something beautiful like candles on a birthday cake. Personally, to me, it seems like he isn't any more conscious than those people who actually celebrate Christmas. As a Christian, I don't really think having a Christmas tree in our home has anything to do with this. We know what Christmas is....and we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Our tree is not worshipped, not used as a ritual, not looked upon as anything but what it is....something beautiful like candles on a birthday cake. You're very confused about history! Maybe you need to go to college? The culture of Babylon did not directly morph into any other cultures. It is now extinct. It has no direct inheritors. The Persian cult of Mithras is what you're referring to here. The Persian cult of Mithras did have some influence on the religion of the Roman military, which in tunr eventually had some influence on Catholicism. None of this has anything at all to do with the Germanic holiday called Yule.

There are christians here in the US and christians in China but if you put those same christians in one room and say start talking to each other they would not be able to understand each other. Is this still part of the punishment from babylon . . .get saved ask for forgiveness...but God is unwilling to undo the language barrier put in place . . .hmmm????

@Swope97 It shows wisdom to question everything. There are many areas that I have seen that lends support to my belief in God. These include Science, History, Experience, Fulfilled Prophecy, Star signs. My parents were missionaries in Irian Jaya among a tribal people. They had this ancient myth that one day white people would come to show them who made the mountains and valleys. That came true when missionaries came. There are 1000's of stories exactly like this among tribal people.

However there is a lot of archaelogical evidence confirming events in the OT and NT and also evidence that the text has changed very little over thousands of years (and virtually never in meaning). The Dead Sea scrolls are even more evidence to confirm the integrity of the scrptures over time.

Again the problem with translation comes into the mix doesn't it, another mistake if Adam Eve Cain and Abel were the first and only people, who was in the land of Nod and why was Cain afraid of them after he killed Abel?

The name Nod is probably the name given to the area later (this is a common way of communicating: for example; "my wife and I dated for 1yr prior to being married" - notice that she wasn't my wife when I dated her)

I question a God that has destroyed the planet with flood and still fails to get it right so God will have to destroy everything with fire and promise that third time is a charm. I would also claim that the attributes of creativity and self-will are possibly divine and are deposited within us as the image of God. The definition of a mortal man is mainly that we die but is actually more then that because some men have not died. We are not all-knowing, all-present, and all-powerful. That is what differentiates us from God just as time-space is different from vegetation.

The simplest reason for the creation of the universe is one God who has always been... not that a Universe accidently happened. However you have aligned the created (us/ Earth / Universe) as God. @alstoq We know by experience that there is not one consiousness. People do not believe and follow the same things. Why would one consciousness split up into multiple individual consiousnesses and therefore differentiate into pieces that are less then the whole? Why would there by multiple and contradictory consiousnesses? Usually the simple answer to a philosophical question is the correct one.

How you see it may not be how God sees it.The Pharisees in Lk.19:39 had a similar opinion. One man's celebration of Christmas can be paganism & another holy, it depends on what's in his heart & only God can see that, hence His warnings in Rom.14 not to judge His people. At Christmas we attend Church & give thanks to God for bringing Salvation to mankind through Jesus' birth, & celebrate like the Jews in Esther ch.9, & we don't sacrifice children on any colour alter. Is that pagan rituals?

There is no GOD. All look into the clear sky tonight, Look at the Orions belt witch consists of 3 stars (Alnitak,Alnilam,Mintaka) = the 3 kings. Then follow these stars from the top one (Mintaka) down through the rest & you will find the EASTERN STAR. It is not in perfect line just yet but it will be on the 25th Dec. Then if your up early enough on the 25th Dec I guarantee That the SUN will rise on the Horizon in that EXACT line from the 3 stars & the eastern star. How I know?.

We tend to keep these rituals because we have done so for the longest time that we dont want to change. We have been made aware of the Truth now its your choice to seek out God's word and His counsel, He will reveal to you all the answers as long as you seek Him first.

Christmas is a phenomenon caused by Lk 2:10. Its message is associated with a spirit of GREAT JOY & came TO ALL PEOPLE. It still is, hence the worldwide celebrations. The Christmas spirit of joy is of God & not Satan, as some want us to believe.
