Pushing with his arms and his back, pushing with his back stops later in row. Constructive criticism because those who don't know 2 k's suck. Their very painful.
Good man. Respect to anyone who finishes a 2k after 6 or so minutes of hard rowing. Only thing I would say is keep the arms straight until the pressure comes off your feet, you're wasting a lot of energy from trying to bend them too soon.
I love how people are critiquing posture likes jackasses. I'm assuming this guy knows how to go about rowing with decent technique, or is at least being coached to do so. This is the end of a 2k. Cut the dude some slack.
@MrEamonnFoley umm excuse me but have u rowed? Form is important for time and speed. A 2k is not that big of a deal. Most of our races are 3ks and we are rowing high speed and pulling hard the whole time now if it was a 6k i can see his form starting to falter..How do u know these guys even know the correct form it could just be an experiment for school. The people "coaching" are probably competitive rowers and know the consequences of poor form. Anyway pretty typical of people to misuse an erg
@dreamrower i've been rowing for close to a decade now, so I like to think I know a thing or two. Where do you row that you're racing 3ks? US standards are either 1500-2k for sprint season and 4.5-6k for any sort of head race, so I'm curious where you train.
Furthermore, I absolutely agree that people tend to misuse the erg (too much layback, breaking arms early etc.) But, there is absolutely going to be some slippage in technique at the end of a 2k erg test, especially in a younger athlete.
@VanSam Our coaches charges us 20 bucks every time one of us lets it go. One saturday we were training technique and so many people dropped it the total got up to 500 bucks and our coaches offered to give the money to anyone who could get a 2k split below 1:40...
Keep you arms straight. Start stroke with legs and back together. Your legs starts before your upper part of body.. And when you are in "release" keep hands higher,in boat its very big mistake (oars are to far from water, and catch is bad).. ;))
Yeh 3D analysis of the movement of joints/ the effects on posture as fatigue increases during a 2k maximal test. HWUBC Heriot-Watt Uni Boat Club the the lab is Napier Uni's new sports lab.
Try not to set the trunk up just before you drive, it gives you stern check in the boat. I.e set the body up earlier and use the lats and gluteals in unison instead of the biceps to connect, then you can start the drive with the shins, and get more power(:
The 3D cameras were to show the difference in posture after fatigue. This was a hungover ergo test as well so was not to with it just wanted to get to the end.
I don't need a 3D camera to tell me the arms need to be straighter during the drive phase. They must have felt like they were about to drop off at the end of that piece
6:36 not going to lie i was hungover

there are more recent videos of ergos on my channel which is a lot better. To be honest looking at the video above it is not nice to look at all.

You bend your arms before your legs are all the way extended. You're tiring yourself early

Yeah he should keep his chest up, he is decreasing his own lung capacity by hunching. But easier said than done in the last 500 of a 2k
