seriously i liked sesame street when i was little and even when im 14 i still like it but only the earlier years because those were the most entertaining days now a days it just flat out comes out and preach that they are a little kid show
Doesn´t Ernie mean Throat. The neck is on the opposite side of his body, when he pulls the shirt off from the front he shows his throat. I might also be wrong, but i think so.
It echos in the back if you listen carefully, which (in my opinion) makes it somewhat funnier. Like the echos at 0:23-0:31 are Bert's concience demanding him to tell Ernie why he has socks on his ears, which Bert is trying to fight back, until he caves in.
When I was very young from 2:08-2:11 when I heard that Ernie said the part of his body begins with "N" and it's all covered up. When he said that, I thought he was saying that the letter "N" was all covered up with blankets and towels.
I have no idea why, but when I was little, this sketch used to terrify me! Something about Ernie's sock on his nose....I can't explain it, but I was so scared
This skit used to get me scared too when I was very young because of the way Bert growled at 2:48. The reason it scared me was because, he growled a little too loud and it was hurting my ears. The only thing I don't understand why he growled. Maybe he growled because he got the answer wrong when it wasn't "nose" but "neck" or because, it was a hard question. If he growled because it was hard, I don't know why he growled because of that since he said to make it hard at 1:37.
Umm...he growled...because Ernie's nose WAS the thing that was covered instead of his neck - but Ernie said it was wrong. And being the nuisance that Ernie can be, he says, "Whatever made you think I was thinking of nose?" when it was TOO obvious to Bert that it was nose. :)
Yes that's also true. Maybe Ernie must have also tricked Bert which can be another reason why Bert growled (Bert probably didn't appreciate that Ernie tricked him) or maybe Ernie didn't admit that "nose" was the right answer where Bert growled at that too.
Bert was right about that, sir. But Ernie made it the hard part of the game, which was his neck that's covered up and can't be seen. Ernie also should've used the "sock on his nose" bit to end the game because he had the sock on his nose as well.
Well, "nostrils" was an "n" word that would have worked and that you couldn't see. LOL I always loved this one when I was a kid. Another great clip that brings back great memories. :)
@OtherBrother09 watch Ernie counting sheep fire engine and balloons. In that skit Ernie can't sleep and keeps Bert up with his counting. For it to be funny you need to watch Bert's facial expressions.
Yes, and Grover said during "Sing After Me" with Madeline Kahn, and Bert said it two other times, when playing the heavy and light game with Ernie, and when playing Thomas Jefferson in "The American Revolution". He said it in response to Oscar wanting the cockatoo for the national bird.
I loved how Ernie made that exit at the end. :)

What a clever ruse. Well played, Ernie.
I love Bert's frustration at the end because I felt the same way watching.

Back in the 80s, we used to all walk around with socks on our years and nose...all in homage to Bert and Ernie...

@brightbite I thought about that when I first saw this. Of course being a muppet Ernie doesn't have nostrils.

That's why today's Sesame Street isn't nearly as good-Jim Henson was a genius at making learning really fun!

Brilliant,Ernie, just brilliant. So funny in the beginning though-Bert is dying to know why those socks are on Ernie's ears!

"I don't get it." That's my all-purpose catch phrase now, courtesy of many classic Bert moments.
OtherBrother09 2 years ago 3
"I know you want me to ask, but I'm not going to ask."
"WHAT ARE THEY FOR ?!"
Quite possibly the funniest E&B skit I've ever seen. My only regret is I've never seen this one before.
OtherBrother09 2 years ago 3
But seeing it for the first time should make it even better for you =D
Besides, the first time I saw this and the other sketch I posted was on Play with Me Sesame.
Jbrangwynne53 2 years ago
Hey, I saw this sketch on Play With Me Sesame, too! Ernie looks silly with socks on his ears and nose. :-)

Frank Oz sure loved to say "you're putting me on".

XD He sure did.
Cookie Monster also said it in the "Zero Cookies" segment; One of my favorite Sesame sketches.

My mistake. It was Lets Play Games, not Imagine With Me. I have both of them so I got confused.
