  • The Cars have a good cover of this on The Cars Anthology

  • Who was the guitarest here, Randy Gardiner?... Fresh off his Berlin stint, Bowie still sports his 'NAZI haircut and Euro dress style'. Dinah Shore, a big fan of Bowie's, makes damn sure the cameraman gets plenty of Bowie shots, but not one of the guitarist! This is a tamer version of Funtime, cleaned up for the 4 pm housewife venue, but I agree, its more accessible with Bowies background vocals, foreward front. The album cut is much less melodic and more, in your face, gutteral Iggy!

  • @leonakita those certainly arent the Sales Brothers (who look like their dad Soupy Sales, nothing like these 2) that took over from them during the Lust for Life tour. I saw Iggy once (the Ramones opened!) when Soupy introduced his boys & Iggy at the beginning of their set, honest (Boston Orpheum theatre in 80s). Iggy climbed a huge stack of amps..he was up insanely high in the air. Crazy, man.

  • @wmprokipchak thats fer sure the Sales bros, Tony on bass, Hunt on drums

  • iggy pop only walks around with a shirt in his hand so he can slam it on the ground and burst into crazy shit like this

  • to my ears this is THE best version of this tune since the great great Bowie backing vocals are pushed forward in the mix..its got that great roiginal guitarsoundcrunch and even on a brightly lit daytime stage, they just crush it.

  • He looks like such a little kid when he falls over at the end of his performance.

  • it's offical, dinah shore is my favourite talk-show host

  • Iggy's crazy-cool fluidic dance moves are one of a kind

  • Fucking fantastic

  • I remember seeing this on TV. I immediately went to the record store and bought The Idiot. Calling Sister Midnight ...

  • was this on the Dinah Shore show? She had guts!

  • Gotta love those 70s set designs. Looks like the gong show.

  • I stayed home in Grade 9 high school to watch this air at 9:am here in Toronto,Canada...then went to the concert a month or so later at the Seneca Field House ...

BLONDIE was the back-up act...she was hot ...Iggy pulled down an extremely tall lightstand and it almost cracked his head open...he spread some peanut butter all over his ass and chest area...what a nite!

    Hugs...Gemma

  • Iggy has so much energy! He's something to watch!

  • rarest piece of footage anywhere- THANK YOU perfection

  • Favorite song of iggy's

  • Maybe this wasn't the best set design for this kind of performance. WTF is that plant near Bowie's keyboard?

  • @ignaciomasllorens The plant is for Captain and Tenille's set...

  • @ignaciomasllorens just the right touch for the prim and proper school marm at the organ!

  • Sweet!

  • WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! I JUST SEARCHED IN FUN TIME AND THIS POPED UP >:l

  • david bowie and iggy! >3 both 64 today and probally still best mates

  • Gos, I remember this- so wild to see Iggy and Bowie on Dinah Shore's program- and especially such a great song as Funtime...

  • Oh yeah, kick & snare sound so good at 1:22 !!!

  • does anyone know if there was a version of this song thats longer than 3 minutes? on vinyl specifically?

  • Is the picture of Iggy bleeding or not?

  • Watching them together always makes me want to watch Velvet Goldmine

  • @LBallz is the film any good? never saw it.

  • @vorkutaman It's one of my favorites. Bowie doesn't like it but after you see it you'll understand why.

  • integrity? Jesus man, that's where you enjoy yourself and have a blissfully lost in rock heaven time ? Integrityland ? Wow , have a real uptight prissy time Mr Cranky !

  • does iggy even own a shirt??

  • @miamiwax

With a body like that, why would he?

  • @miamiwax nope

  • @miamiwax The answer to that? No.

  • @miamiwax yes but theyre skin coloured

  • okay 1.49-1.53 and 2.03-2.12 ------- > that was the hottest thing ever !... and everytime he says "...pants.." and you can see the ones he sees in his stares .... oooow so fucking fit !

  • This song fucking OWNS! "Last night I was down the lair. Talking to dracula and his crew." Awesome lyric!

  • @SuperStrik9 haha .... agreeed x) ... but you got the lyric wrong its lab not lair x)

  • haha... I guess you can say doing massive amounts of drugs and makin a bunch of noise is music...... I guess........

  • @MrJoshuaBolster - Jimmy Hendrix, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Rollign Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, just to name a few. You don't have to like drugs, but some awesome music has been made under the influence.

  • @nevskislake well plenty of bands did make good music under influence.. my point was not this "artist" not much intergrity behind the song just a bunch of crap

  • @MrJoshuaBolster - I guess that's subjective. I'll agree that there's not much integrity to this particular song, though it's cool to see Iggy and Bowie share a stage (in my humble opinion), but I wouldn't say that about all of Iggy Pop's music, especially his early work, which he brought a sincere energy to.

  • what month in 77 was this filmed on dinar shore .. does anyone know ??

  • i think that was the greatest solo ending of any performance ive ever seen and the most genuine and sweetly enduring thank you !! x)... love jimmy!!

  • WOOOOW!!!

  • as long as I could remember, i thought iggy were a monkey wrench. But anyway i liked him a lot. Now i know he is american and i still likes him. but in my heard i know he is an Berlin... xD

  • charlie sheen and iggy should have done an album :P

  • I love bowie

  • I think I saw this when it was on TV... Was this on Dinah Shore? I cut school that day just to stay home and watch that....

Dinah kept trying to interview Bowie but Bowie insisted that they talk about Iggy.

  • fantastic ......

  • How can Iggy have sunk to advertising car insurance on those shitty ads?

  • @GNeuman everyone's gotta pay the bills....

  • Maybe someone else said this, but how remarkable is it that Dinah Shore had these guys on? That exposure and reach was mammoth. Those of us over 40 remember when there was only 4 TV stations, no cable TV, no internet.

  • I saw them at the Academy of Music (later Palladium) on 14th St in Manhattan. Bowie ran the band, which freed Iggy up to climb on scaffolding and be carried out by 4 guys, squirming in a burlap sack and lain down next to mic thoughtfully there on the stage floor to sing I can't remember what (Maybe Lust For Life?) as he wiggled out of it.

  • No G I saw the concert at the now, long gone Senca Field House in beautiful Toronto,Canada...Iggy pulled down a 40 foot light stand almost cracked Bowie on the skull...a few months later David wrote Heros and we attended that concert as well..high school days in the 70s...I would not trade my experiences for a million bux..

    Hap New Year bitches!

    Gemma

  • Iggy and Ziggy *-*

  • I am supposed to hear echoes of Jack Parsons in the lyrics to this? If so, I never noticed before. Woah.

  • to see Iggy Pop sleeping serenely must be the weirdest scene you can ever watch.

  • @broilet I try to picture Iggy sleeping, but all I can see is him writhing around on the floor quietly...

  • Love Bowie with the ciggerette in his mouth.

  • who said David bowie was an american idiot because that person who said that is an idiot bowie is English dumb arse

  • Don't look now, but someone just paid their bill at the Maui Hilton !!!!!

  • the sales bro's also helped todd rundgren start his solo career,a great pair of musicians. btw iggy-bowie = awesome

  • @UrbanGuerilla88 Kudos to your taste bro...The sales bro's are my biggest influence as a rock bassist!!

  • @ktmpl if their your biggest influence you must be a shit hot bassist mate.

  • @ktmpl G'morn & thanks homz!! Tony's a great template for anyone in the rock genre, he like these others I'll list are some of the unsung greats: Trevor Boulder/Phill Lynott/Carmine Rojas/Chris Glenn & Kassim Sultan..Kim Deal..etc.. When recording rock I think of those textures, I'll look to check out your channel as well...best!!

  • Ian Curtis hung himself after listening to the record this song was on! The Idiot was the blueprint for much of Joy Division's sound

  • I love this song! Especially the live version. please don't kill me for suggesting this, but I think Andrew W.K. should cover this song. i mean he is a pretty big party animal and likes to have fun.

  • i like this version even more than the studio version off The Idiot! but they are both GREAT

  • @Leapordonmyright Since you're ignorant, stay ignorant. These men changed the musical landscape of that moment and time. Go study

  • the bass player's hot

  • @garvis213 god i actually think all of them are!! o.o

  • I LOVE THE END OF THAT! AMERICA SHIT ITSELF THAT DAY!

  • Each to their own, some folk don't like David Bowie, Iggy Pop or even Ian Curtis, but variety is the spice of life and if there wasn't different sounds and artists putting their music out there it would be a sad and bland time indeed.

Disagree with your comment about Bowie & Iggy being American losers but you have a right to your say( Bowie by the way was born in London, but resides in America) One of Ian's childhood heroes was infact a singer called David Bowie ...so enough said! :)

  • @19wendywoo68 meh Ian curtis...

  • @19wendywoo68 ...and in fact he hung himself while listening to Bowie's and Iggy's music.

  • @19wendywoo68 whoever said Iggy and Bowie are American losers are A: losers themselves and B: know nothing of music

  • @19wendywoo68 i always thought it was jim morrison, the person who inspired ian.. but undoubtedly david bowie. definitive living legend, also.

  • @leapordonmyright

you have of course the right to express your opinion, but if you do not even know that bowie is not american but british i simply suppose you do not know enough about these guys' work to judge.

  • @leapordonmyright If Bowie and Pop are such losers how come they're minted rockstars, adored across the planet and you're just making ignorant comments on youtube. Get some perspective.

  • @leapordonmyright Dude, why should anyone listen to you when you're obviously just trying to start trouble?

  • @leapordonmyright these two are gods. shut your mouth peon.

  • @leapordonmyright How about your stick to "Cute Blonde Tries To Crush Can on Head" you have favourited ?

Sure shows your impeccable taste (0:

  • that was.... amazing, fucking amazing.

  • танец кильки ))

  • this song always gets me groovin, and with iggy's dancing makes me laugh every time!

  • uuuhhhh buenisimo... Two Gods!!! Gracias desde Argentina

  • in my opinion, this is the best video on youtube

  • @dejahthoris I agree. "i don't need no heavy trips. i just do what i want to do."

  • awesome!!!!!!!!

    bow down to the legend

  • shit, this must've scared the shit out of housewives when that appeared on dinah shore.

  • @thevoid99 dont underestimate housewives, we love this kind of stuff and raise punk rockers

  • iggy was a very underrated front man, i mean, LOOK ALL THAT ENERGY!!

  • 1977 was Iggy Pop's YEAR

  • I think John Green and I saw them that year at the Santa Monica Civic 1977?

  • Wonder what ever happened to that keyboard player. He looked like he had a bright future ahead of him

  • @scottistrad HA HA ! Indeed, the guy already had something of a history by THIS point in time.

  • OLLLLLL ABOOOOARD FOR FAAAAAWNTIME

  • Comment removed

  • The Cars cover of this isn't bad. A lot more synthesizer but very cool!

  • It's hilarious the way he moves around

  • iggy needs to release his own buns of steel video. a workout for recovering addicts.

  • Awesome! Someone finally got these Dinah Shore/Iggy/Bowie vids back on to YouTube!!!

  • just incredible...loved it!!

  • I remember the tour he did round this time....all I can say is WOW! One the best shows I've ever seen.

  • Yeah !!!!!!!!!!! This was funny!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Iggy light.

  • iggy is way better than bowie even the commercial 80s crap that iggy put out is better than any bowie after low

  • Are you implying Heroes and Lodger were bad?

  • Ah, come on, both of them are really good artists. I wouldn't want to create this kind of Iggy-Bowie competition. By the way,If it hadn't been for Bowie, two really good Iggy albums hadn't even seen the light of day, on the other hand, Bowie certainly drew much inspiration from his artistic collaboration with Iggy. So if you want to vent your bile, I think there's enough musical crap around that doesn't have to do anything with Bowie nor Iggy...

  • iggy kills bowie

  • Two guys right out of their gourds. Thank heavens they survived. Two music greats. Keep on rockin' in the free world, Iggy and David.

  • Bowie seemed to be Iggy's survival.

  • this is not the stooges iggy even if you really trying mate

  • love the studio version of fun time as well as the live version basic but clever 3 cord song Bowies productions always worked in the 70s and still stand up today no matter how many or how little cords used!

  • Interesting electrical trivia. In songwriting, Bowie sometimes used 3 chords, too.

  • Does Iggy Pop have a spine?!?!:

  • I love how he just sits down at the end... haah

  • you can't sit still while watching this, its simply physically impossible!

  • What year was this?

  • @notchic 1977

  • yeah dinah shore suck on that =]

  • the cat is the jajajajjajajajapy

  • If you look in the dictionary, right next to the word "cool" you will see a picture of Iggy Pop.

  • damn it's also next to Iguana in my dictionary

  • @ perrofrio:

That's true, but only in Webster's. In a British dictionary, you see a picture of Bowie.

  • Hahaha, good one mate.

  • @perrofrio thats true i checked.

  • Fua!!!! Menuda pareja...Hay gente muy loca, muy genial, muy... única!!!

  • I'm obsessed with Iggy's dance moves.

  • Iggy is fuckin' beautifull!!!

  • I like Iggy's crazy dance moves.

  • love to see these old old TV outtakes, zeitgeist and so on,...`specially this one

  • Iggy and Bowie -

both friends supertalented both but we now - Iggy is the genius chaos and Bowie is the genius creator!

  • thanks a lot loco i've been looking for this video for years

    i'm from argentina

    saludos!

  • don't forget Carlos Alomar on guitar!

  • Sorry but the guitar man in this video was Ricky Gardiner!

  • I crave this!

  • and Tony's dad Soupy Sales died today.

  • So much more awesome than the album version.

  • All aboard for fun time again and again and again more please.

  • One of my fav Iggy Pop songs, and with Bowie on vocals, this versions rocks!

  • The end is so funny, rock n roll doggies

  • Glad this made it back to Youtube!

  • An inspiring song for the Dinah housewives of 1977 to know they are sexy and wanted...

    baby baby, we want in!

we want some, we want some!

  • thanks for posting this because the other vid got deleted

  • You're welcome :), lets hope this one stays around eh?

  • I hope so, too.

  • I think this is the only full copy of this performance on YT. Truly whimsical and fun! I love how Bowie looks so prim and proper on the organ. I am Bowie's biggest fan.

  • 78klausnomi: There is a video on TY of a live performance of Queen and Bowie doing Under Pressure. It's a very large stage with catwalks on both ends, and Freddy Mercury has no shirt on and runs all over the place and totally spazzes out, but all you want to look at is David Bowie, who is standing at center stage in a buttoned up suit snapping his fingers. He's so cool and classy, you want to tell Mercury to please sit down and stop distracting you!

  • I beg to differ. The whole point is that Bowie likes playing opposite to nutcases. Mick Jagger, Freddy Mercury (though I don't like him), Iggy Pop; Bowie plays cool while they do their thing.

Also, frankly, Iggy back then was better than Bowie ever was or will be.

  • @touchandgod

Iggy is great but you can't deny that amazingness of Bowie. Without Bowie Iggy would probably be dead or his career done from heroin. And Bowie is just a legend. His music and voice rule, GO BOWIE!

  • He's great, yeah.

    Iggy is better.

  • @19wendywoo68 thanks........nice to see and hear......

  • Ah, bromance at its greatest.

  • Great video, If you need any help getting your videos or channel exposed, i use a service called thetubeviews . net it has helped 5 of my videos get ranked on the first page

ps. I really liked your style of channel!

  • All aboard for fun time! Yeah!
