Since the time of this particular story, the area around the American Flyer lift has changed significantly. As you can notice in the video, it used to cross over a double chairlift, the G lift, between towers 3 and 4. The lift was removed in 1999, but when you ride the American Flyer today, you can still see the old lift line intersecting the lift between towers 3 and 7 (the American Flyer was lowered because it didn't have to rise up and cross over another lift).
@cajohnson1234 I have a question for you, maybe you can answer it for me. If you can't know now, I'm cool on waiting until winter time so you can ask around.
I patrol in Wisconsin and was patrolling in Michigan last season also, would I be able to sign on as a guest and ski with you guys for a few days if I take a trip up to Canada?
@OneSkiWonder It will depend on the resort, I have heard of NSP areas taking on CSPS members for a day or two, and there is no reason to think that any of our resorts would do any differently, my advice is contact the patrol leader for whatever resort you wish to go to, and ask them, you may run into the resort saying no, but keep trying! also, try to look up the CSPS division office for the area itself, they may be able to help!
okay.....voluntarily riding a chairlift....and then screaming downhill at 50 miles an hour....umm doesn't sound fun to me!!! Gimme a nice safe snowmobile...
I'm afraid of heights, but only in open air--I absolutely LOVE flying in a plane, as long as it's totally enclosed.
Copper Mountain was a fun place. I went there as a kid three times with my parents. In fact, this episode aired in the daytime on Fam about a week before I went back with my Family in early 98.
I just noticed a small error in Shatner's narration. As the episode shows Sam and Richard getting in line for the American Flyer lift, Shatner states that the ride time was twelve minutes. Um, I have one thing to say. I looked at snowzoomcom's video of the American Flyer lift, which would make the ride time about ten minutes.
Copper Mountain's lifts have changed since this episode. For instance, at the time of this episode, the American Flyer lift (the lift which the guy collapsed on) crossed over the G lift, a double chairlift that ran from Center Village to the top of High Point. That lift was removed in 1999.
A few towers on the American Flyer were relocated and the lift in that part lowered then. The chain cadences on the lift have been replaced by tires. There's more differences since 1986 for American Flyer.
I was skiing with my friends when a guy completely collapsed in the chair in front. His 2 buds helped him stay. We were waiting for ski patrol to come. The man had an Asthma attack. Over than that we went down the mountain in a jiff
I remembered when I was a little boy on an airplane on vacation that bubblegum or gum can help you get rid of the pressure inside the airs as you travel high inside an airplane.
I think they recorded his intros for several episodes in one day, so that's probably why he is seen in the same dispatch center for multiple episodes with close production numbers. You can also see him in this center in "911 Stalker Save" from Episode 305.
That's more than 4 minutes in cold weather. If he ends up w/out brain damage, the coldness is the reason for it.
I know someone who was underwater for more than 4 minutes in a warm environment, and she's still damaged to this day.

I'm watching a movie about skiing, some of it's about skiing, with John Cusack in it.
He's trying to go down the K12, whatever that is, to impress his former girlfriend into taking him back.
He took all kinds of tumbles which, so far, has been hilarious.
I'm sure a stunt person did the falls, b/c you wouldn't be able to just get up from one of his falls.
The movie's called Better Off Dead.

Drive a car all night long....then head straight for the slopes at age 47...what was he smoking? The human body requires sleep. It's not an "option".

I originally had the segment following this with the kids in the house during a fire, but it got recorded over. Do you have it?
railREAPER 2 years ago
No, just this syndicated version. I'm searching for a number of episodes, which I've made montages out of from edited episodes.

Do you and Dave now have the Cbs Versions of this one and the one about the girl who saves her sibblings from their burning house?

Yes, I posted it a couple of months ago. Search for "Rescue 911-Episode 303 "Sister Saves Siblings".

In better words:
"A man suffers a heart attack while riding the American Flyer lift at Copper Mountain, Colorado."

I think what caused Sam's heart attack was exhaustion, the cold air, and a high altitude. I could be wrong but I'm just taking a wild hunch.
