I would like to point out that this great master was the student of Yang Chen Fu, whose body was shaped as differently from Cheng Mang Ching as is possible. Master Chen was small and slight. Master Yang was tall and heavily built. Both became great masters. Yang was famous for power. Chen was famous for being nearly impossible to hit. Yang was "yang" oriented, his student's style is as "Yin" as you can get. The art fits the man.

ive seen lots of little variations in the vids of him doing form work, but it's always been pretty obvious its the same form, with the same general intent.
@richardshapiroII It's mainly a variation. The sequence of movements is different and there are some postures that are missing in my form. I guess it isn't really a different form just a different sequence.
when you first start tai chi.. its like whats the point?? 6 months later you notice some incredible changes eg.. energy, flexibility, awareness (of self and others) body density.. the list goes on... 1000 benefits, no complaints.. it is a perfect system. one of mankinds greatest achievments. I feel this way even though my standard of tai chi is poor.
Also, if practiced properly, tai chi helps to develop incredible leg stregnth. It is very difficult to achieve empty leg postures throughout the yang form and still be Completely relaxed. Relaxation is key..but not at the cost of form!
Combine tai chi and fasting regularly and the results are stunning. On my 3rd day of fast where I ususally needed an alarm to wake up, I no longer did. Colors became more bright and vivid, my energy increased and my awarness of my surroundings as well.
Chen Man Cheng was a Chinese college professor. He was a master of the 5 excellences, which in Traditional Chinese culture are poetry, calligraphy, painting, Chinese medicine, and taijiquan...Cheng gained fame as an artist in his early years, and in his thirties, to alleviate his tuberculosis, he took up t'ai chi ch'uan study with the famed Yang Ch'eng-fu. He was one of the earliest Chinese to teach westerners, and eventually came to the US to spread this healing art.
Soul I do not live in Las Vegas BUT a word you can learn this take a sequence get the book and cultivate your spirit. There is a higher power that will send you someone that will work with you to perfection. If that has not already happened it will. This is good for all men and women sick or healthy.Peace soul
he is the real deal, but so were many others that were his equal/better as well. i have studied his 37 form under one of his direct students(who is not 70+). cmc is known for stripping down the original yang forms to something more simpler and less time-consuming. i prefer to stick to original yang, but guess this shorter form works for some pple, especially if you are a beginner. keep in ming, 50+ year ago, we did not have the 24 yang, so lots of pple had this to choose.
It's sad that so many kids play Jade Empire on their Xbox-360's and instantly think they are masters of martial art styles. Look at all these kids who think they could actually teach a grand master. But then again, if I couldn't get a girl friend, I guess I'd sit around all day and act like a master
hahahaha Andrewkeng you're hilarious, this guy was more relaxed than you'll ever be and you call him stiff! hahahaha, oh and dan020350 who the hell are you to say he doesn't know the heart of the movement? Ass hole, you talk like you're some tai chi badass prodigy who can't be beaten, when really, your just some jealous wantobe
Come on, you folks, be honest. This guy is over-rated. Maybe he was too old in the video. But his movement was stiff and it was more like aerobic exercise.
He's a modern Taiji master, from the Yang style. Was very famous for his Pushing Hands skills, but I have yet to see him fighting for real with his Taiji skills.

@Jaxoran
seems to me that great relaxation is what developed the form shape in the first place?
form is developed to support relaxation, structure, and function, both health and martial.
but other good taiji styles have other foms, but still relaxation is there.
so I'd argue relaxation is probably much more important than 90% of form details.

He is probably 90. Most people aren't alive, let alone moving around in coordination and grace.

Not over rated! When movements become refined, the fluidity is very subtle, and unable to be noticed by sight alone.

Real masters are beyond mundane fighting. You can actually see his power when he throws his student many feet away with a mere push.
