Wicked in London was my first musical. I was with my father and recently deceased mother, and I have to say that it was my absolute favorite musical! Alexia made my heart skip a beat with her amazing voice. Every time I listen to her performances, it brings me back to that amazing time with my father and mother. I cannot let this moment escape my heart :)
I'd love to see a black Glinda. But question... The scene that opens into "What Is This Feeling?" Glinda says all that stuff about how Elphie is impossible to describe. Elphie sums Glinda up as being "blonde." If there was a black Glinda, what one word do you think they would have Elphie say to describe her (if she was black and obviously didn't have blonde hair)? Not trying to make this racial/racist. I'm just curious how people think they would switch things up to accomodate this situation...
@lovelystrings yeah, she is one of the few to hold the last note for that long, it is hard to believe that before her run in wicked and the lion king, people didn't appreciate her singing, they knew her as an actress, well know we all can, i hope she does an album soon, with a version of defying gravity on it and maybe a few more selections from the show, Alexia did always say she prefered no goo deed out of all her solo songs in wicked so if she does an album that song should be on it.
she rocks. Lol. She would be a good choice for Elphaba in the Wicked movie, more important than her voice being powerful, her acting also is similar to the witch of the west from the original Wizard Of Oz. a lot of elphabas have made me say WOW but not as much as her or kerry
She has got such an amazing voice that when I saw her on the 24th March she made me want to cry. Fantastic. So pleased I got to see her before the cast change.

However, Alexia has been ill a lot lately. I saw her Saturday afternoon and she wasn't as good as she normally is. I guess that's why Ashleigh Grey is on more. I hope she gets well soon, cos she truly is the BEST Elphaba, and I have tickets for her last show! It's gonna be immense.
Ashleigh hasnt been on unscheduled since the end of November :s Alexia's a lot healthier now.. still maybe not 100% but still sounding a lot better.. x

do you think alexia could ever return to wicked, ah well at least we can remember her two runs on wicked, her first run in 2008 and then her return from 2009-2010.
She is my favourite Elphaba, better than Idina (dare I say it)! And I totally agree with everything you wrote there, except I did cry when this was sung... and about 4 times during the second half as well :D
@LuluHorseCrazy i know, its a shame that some audio's on youtube don't do her justice, most of them are fantastic but some are not good in quality, you needed to see her live though, that was where Alexia was at her best, and it was so nice to have an elphaba lead with a real witchy tone to her voice, that was the best of Alexia, yes Idina Kerry and Rachel and all there undertudy's and stanby's were fantastic but Alexia had something extra special in her performance.

Alexia is amazing. Such an amazing voice. I went to see Wicked when she was in it and her voice was just phenomenal! I could listen to her all day. I was just blown away by the power in her voice. Just fantastic, i had goosebumps.
Alexia is so good that when I bought the cd at the show and realized it was the original cast singing on it I was disappointed. I had to go see again before I left London.. I was in love with it that much.. and for me that's huge because I am not a huge musical fan. This is the first one since "The Sound of Music" or "My Fair Lady" that I can actually stand.
"LLLLLOOOOK to the WESTERN sky!" I think her growling on that phrase is just as good as Kerrys ;) if not better. She just has so much energy! She's fantastic! =)

I think her voice really suits her interpretation of the role. I saw her on the 16th May and she just blew me away! I literally had to pick my jaw off the floor, it was that amazing. It was the first time someone sent shivers down my spine singing that song, it was just amazing.

I've seen Idina ... I was lucky enough to see her like two days before she left. At the time, I knew nothing about Wicked and I didn't have a clue who Idina was, other than the fact that she was a random actress playing the witch. Yeah she was really good live - I was sooo blown away. However, I've also seen Kerry and Alexia and IMO Alexia is by far the best. Idina is good live, but when you listen to her audios she can sometimes seem to struggle. Kerry is amazing, but her acting isn't great.
I love the orchestra in this recording, it sounds so full, most london recordings are like overloaded by one instrument, but this sounds so much fuller, love alexia, love this recording!!!!

Just cos you can hold notes for a long time doesn't make you a good singer - in her case she is. Although I think she is totally miscast for the part, she is a great singer.
You really have to be there. The power in her voice is incredible. I had to turn it down on the recording because it was really distorted from her power.

On the word "care" in the first phrase of the end, you kind of hear it. and on I....and defying....on the the phrase: Tell them how I...etc.

I think her voice really suits her interpretation of the role. I saw her on the 16th May and she just blew me away! I literally had to pick my jaw off the floor, it was that amazing. It was the first time someone sent shivers down my spine singing that song, it was just amazing.

Yes but only for the first act! She is supposed to be older, more mature and more fierce in the second which I, as well, think Alexia is still lacking!

Well... yes of course! I know that! I've seen this show countless times! However, DG is the very end of the first act and is basically the turningpoint for elphaba and her countenance! And I was more speaking in general about Alexia's performances thoughout the show than DG in particular! But u are right, of course!

Yes I've seen her three times! Once last July, once last October and then just last week! And I have to say that I really think she imrpoved since her first run when Kerry was in NYC but I still don't like the chíldish sound of her voice! Generally I like her though so I don't want to take this discussion any further! There will always be favourites for any fan so it is useless to ditch other performers! However, have u seen Idina live?Cause if u haven't u shouldn't make comments like that!

I didn't make the comments about Idina ;) and I hate comparing Elphabas cos I really don't see the point. But no I haven't seen Idina, she and Shona are the only two London ones I didn't see.
If you've seen her live, I have respect for your opinion because you have something solid to base it on :D

I've seen Idina ... I was lucky enough to see her like two days before she left. At the time, I knew nothing about Wicked and I didn't have a clue who Idina was, other than the fact that she was a random actress playing the witch. Yeah she was really good live - I was sooo blown away. However, I've also seen Kerry and Alexia and IMO Alexia is by far the best. Idina is good live, but when you listen to her audios she can sometimes seem to struggle. Kerry is amazing, but her acting isn't great.

I love the orchestra in this recording, it sounds so full, most london recordings are like overloaded by one instrument, but this sounds so much fuller, love alexia, love this recording!!!!

Just cos you can hold notes for a long time doesn't make you a good singer - in her case she is. Although I think she is totally miscast for the part, she is a great singer.

She doesn't growl anyway, it's usually just the quality of the recorder and alexia's voice.
But yes she has improved :D (although she was pretty damn fantastic before anyway!)
