it really depends linux is better than windows at browsing the web and flash games where as windows is great for hard-core gaming. Also the price of windows doesn't matter unless your making a costom build. But most likely at that point your parts are way more expensive. And if you already have a computer you can torrent windows 7 ultimate, or just get a beta windows build.

Canonical built a distribution based around the Linux kernel called 'Ubuntu' it is one of many distributions of operating systems based on that kernel and wrongly called "Linux". @Falador321 if you will kill/crash GUI you can always restart it from CLI, and I have been using ubuntu for few years, the latest versions had some problems with performance, but that's actually my shitty computer's fault but the gnome, or unity, as in the latest version never crashed, well it had crashed once, but that was caused by sys files, which I have edted :D

@onekilo Matters on what software you use. If you mean a word processor Open Office does have spell check. The browsers available Firefox, Opera, and Chrome all have built in spell checks so I think your good. Spell check has pretty much become a standard in most software.

I truly love both systems
Windows of course has more software, and it mainly able to do more, but you have to pay for it, and Linux is not that behind even though its free and it doesnt have 10000 working on it all the time, im sure many companies etc love it (the windows/macs cost companies a lot to buy)

@onekilo Matters on what software you use. If you mean a word processor Open Office does have spell check. The browsers available Firefox, Opera, and Chrome all have built in spell checks so I think your good. Spell check has pretty much become a standard in most software.

@kaundere Well see, that's the funny thing! You see, computers weren't invented to play games, so saying what you said is rather irrelevant. If you wish to play games so badly, get yourself one of those things they call Games Consoles. You know, the computers they decided to invent for the sole purpose of playing games? Just a side note, Linux can play games, just not a great deal. There's an awesome program called Wine which allows the use of Windows applications.

Its simple to use, simpler than windows
I learned to use ubuntu in less than 45Min
Plus the only good windows is windows XP
Win7 is too easy to use, way to easy, its made for people who cant use computers

My Linux box can't play my games. Linux Can't play Netflix movies, Yet both my Mac and Windows box can. Funny how Linux can do more by doing less.

@thefinalfrontier1701 Yes it is, because if all Linux distributors got together and made 1 version of Linux for the home, and convinced the software developers to make games for Linux, good games not crappy ones I have seen and played, and not horrible remakes, but new good games, then Linux would be able to compete, but while all the Linux Distros do their own thing making, Linux will not be popular as an OS Replacement. With that said I love me Droid phone.

Peh. I put Ubuntu on my laptop. Now I have Windows 7...because I like games and I have Windows exclusive programs that just can't work with Wine...
It's not the greatest thing in the world...all OS's have cons & pros...
And if a person knew really knew their stuff, then they'd know how to get Windows and all its programs for free.
