This is a serious subject and I dont know why people post silliness. I love chimpanzees and I think that its not only dangers from humans that a chimp mother has to worry about. Gremlin has had her babies killed before by other members of this group. Because she is not the highest ranking female she oftens get a bad time from the other chimps.

Team: After taking a close look, I do not see testicles showing on the male animal. You may be observing the rear of the female. The female chimps sex organs are a disgusting sight to see (unless you are a male chimp). The pair of dangling scrotum-like parts are portions of the female's vagina, anus, urinary assembly. In season, the female's genitals swell to enormous size...ugly. I won't discuss further. Please.

Funny comment! So, here's the scoop on huge chimp testicles: Because the ape is not monogomous, it cannot be certain which ape passes on its genes. So, enormous amounts of sperm are needed. The more sperm injected = greater chance of siring offspring. Most often, apes mount a fertile female in rapid succession, lasting no more than 9-10 pumps to ejaculate. If a male is not interested in a female, she may initiate contact, even placing the chimp penis into its own vagina. Gag! Enough said.

the twins received so much positive attention from Frodo, the other females probably felt like the twins were a threat to their "status" or positions in the group and so they tried to eliminate that threat by killing the twins. Chimps are very competative and are always fighting to keep as high up in the group as possible. The twins survived that attempt on their lives. There is a video showing them older on here, it's called "chimpanzee diary: chimp championship rivalry", I think.

I was trying to draw similarities between this society and certain human societies where polygamy is practiced ... Usually in societies where the male can marry and have offspring out of more than one female, the females tend to compete over resources for their children and be very aggressive towards the children of the other women with whom they share the male, not to the point of wanting to kill the other babies of course but hostilities occurs nonetheless.
