Because for the majority of the show she talks in an annoying high pitched and squaky voice that would sound like a drowned rat if sang that way. A lot of people thought that was her real voice, too.

saw it just a couple of days ago. Who could ask for better? Mel Brooks, Susan Stroman, Megan Mullally, Roger Bart, Sutton Foster, Christopher Fitzgerald, AND Shuler Hensley? You don't find a more talented cast and creative team. It just doesn't happen.
