  • How is velcro accidental?

  • What about Charles Chamberland's accidental discovery of vaccination?

He was part of Louis Pasteur's team working on a cure for chicken cholera. He was supposed to infect (and kill) a batch of chickens, and was given a liquid culture to inject them with. He left the liquid uncovered for many days while on holiday.

When Camberland returned, he injected the chickens but they did not die. He then injected them with a fresh batch and they still did not die.

    Thus vaccination was discovered.

  • Comment removed

  • what about silly putty?

  • That was good information. I did not know these tidbits of info.

  • lsd was accidental

  • @Reid52 Nope. See my earlier comment.

  • @Reid52 It wasn't, see my comment 4 days ago.

  • You could replace Velcro with slime toys.

  • Where's Coca-Cola? I believe an American doctor was trying to find a medicine. The medicine's taste then became so popular and so Coca-Cola was born.

  • velco's hardly accidental.

  • what about gunpowder, it was invented by the Chinese that were trying to invent a potion or concoction for immortality

  • @Jayjared99 Oh the fucking irony! :D

  • @Jayjared99 False, western europeans were the ones in search of the filosofers stone(elixir, al-iksir, potion of eternal life) the chinese did not have this knowledge of alchemy.Marco Polo brought gunpowder back to europe and showed the alchemists.

  • @Jayjared99 That must have backfired... quite literally

  • @Jayjared99 thats what your for

  • @Jayjared99 That was what caused world war... Hitler caused it of course.. but gunpowder was the source of a gun.

  • @Jayjared99 everything the chinese do is like trying for immortality :)

from eating shark finn soup to seals testicles ... and everything inbetween

  • @Jayjared99 i guess you can say it... blew up in their face!

  • @Jayjared99 Thought it was fireworks.

  • Number 1: Humans

  • Where's the most important one?

    L S D ?

  • @DaZeDmerlin LSD's invention was NOT accidental. Please see my comment 4 days ago.

Sorry but due to the very high amount of comments like yours, I can't copy / paste my comment, otherwise it would be marked as spam.

  • @Knr911 oh yeah derp lol it was intentional but the discovery of it's psychoactive potential WAS accidental

  • @Reid52 No, it was not! Have you read my comment a few lines under this one? Hoffmann was a fan of psychedelics, he worked on psilocybin, of course he WANTED to make a psychoactive product out of rye fungus. The alkaloid in rye fungus was known to have neuro-toxic effects, as there are recorded stories of mass hysteria in XVIth century villages, when they ate bread with contaminated rye.

What is accidental is that he didn't WANT to test this sample (the n°25) WHEN he tested it.

  • @Knr911 oh, well go spread this around to the dozens of false sources i heard it the other way from then

  • @Reid52 idk,my source is Albert Hoffman's book "LSD: My problem child."

In fact I made a small error: after double check, turns out he voluntarily took a minimal amount of substance before the bicycle trip, because he was accidentally exposed to the molecule a few days before by manipulating the molecule and decided to re-experiment.

Raw, unrefined rye fungus was also used as a vaginal dilator for helping pregnant women to deliver.

  • @Knr911 Hey that's interesting, i wanna read the book now!

I'm reading a LOT of books on psychedelics lately, primarily on Ayahuasca and DMT, but i'm curious now, thanks!

  • @DaZeDmerlin This book's cool because of the legacy, but if you allow me to give you good titles on this subject, if you haven't read already: Aldous Huxley's "the doors of perception", and most of all Carlos Castaneda's "The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge". The book is fascinating as it depicts the man's initiation of indian rituals during 5 years. This book was actually presented as his master's thesis in anthropology. It's THE absolute must-read. Blows your mind.

  • @DaZeDmerlin Nope, it was Castaneda himself, this book IS his actual masteer's thesis in anthropolgy, he wrote it in that purpose :) So you know the classics, I don't know much beyond that :) Hoffmann's book is interesting, this guy was so cool... He lived 102 years tripping balls o_O

  • @Knr911 Hoffmann was a veryb intresting guy i know, he still gave a lecture about LSD at the LSD symposium when he was 100 in 2006.

Cool guy, i'm gonna read that book!

  • I started having heart palpitations when the first pacemaker was mentioned, odd!?

  • what about Warfarin. The drug was discovered when cattle were ingesting a certain type of plant that made them hemorrhage. It was later used as rat poison and its use in humans as a anticoagulant (blood thinner) came about after a soldier tried to commit suicide by ingesting the rat poison but went on to recover completely in hospital.

  • 1. The human race.

  • Here is another one - Vulcanized Rubber, invented by accident by Charles Goodyear when he mix sulfur and rubber then accidently spilled it in a oven. It heated, then made vulcanized rubber.

  • Radar, sometime in the 1940s. The british were attempting to melt the pilots in german bombers and found that the ray bounced back and made an audible blip on headphones. They converted an audible blip to a visual blip and radar was born.

Utilizing short frequencies you can reflect clouds for weather radar and high frequencies to penitrate clouds and see solid objects like birds and aircraft.

  • What about the stuff used in Napalm. That was discovered on accident by the Dutch.
