AppInventor is handy to begin with, but it has some limitations.

Just a quick note: Using plain text as state indicator is resource waste. The phone has to use more power to validate the test on multiple characters. Instead use atomic values like true/false or 1/0. When making software you always want to opt for making it use as little machine resource as possible without adding unnecessary complexity. Good video though :)

Do you know how to allow someone to edit the database info from a different phone? So for instance, if I want to be able to set the oven on from my phone and when you open the app on your phone it will show the on state? Like multiple phones reading and writing to the same database. Is that possible in app inventor?

Can anyone tell me how to get the icon for my app on the simulator. Instead of it automatically starting i want to open it. I have downloaded the package and have it in an apk format. i went to adb but when i run that it just starts runs through code and then ends. what can i do.

I have the same problem, here's what I did, I had it show a barcode and scanned it with my phone, which downloaded and installed it. It also left the apk file in my download folder.

I few more steps than we should be subjected to, but it works.

I´m a teacher and I have successfully developed apps for my own use for Palm OS using PDA Toolbox . Since Palm Os is outdated I´d like to switch to Android. The apps I have developed are basically database apps where I store information about my students and stuff which I use on my Palm Centro. They have many forms with many fields and tables with filters, so are there any chances of developing similar applications with the new App Inventor? Thanks very much for your advice.

I notice you are re-using the same blocks in your application start and event handler. I would love to know if there is a way to make a "method" (or block equivalent) so you create the block code once and re-use it.

Also we need to start coming up with names for items in this block editor. Do we still call them "methods"? And what about having a name for a group of blocks?

Awesome tutorial!! I was wondering if you guys could make another one, by request.

Our club for school is looking to make an Android app. We want it to put RSS feeds in different 'tabs' and display the stories in a nice format. (Like a news app, one tab/button brings our sites RSS feed, our Twitter RSS feed, our YouTube RSS feed, etc. each in a different tab at the top or bottom of the screen. It doesn't need to be complex, just simple to use.

It would be awesome if you can do this. Thanks!!!
